Welcome to the Hotel Deuce. Such a lovely place!

Good day!
Today we'll visit a dark place, in this horror game! Yes, it was some time since I played a classic horror rpgmaker game, and this time I'm back with a game of an author I already know: Stormowl! If you did not play something about this dev, do that, especially if you like short horror games. So far I played (and I may suggest) five other titles:

It Moves
Rust and Blood
Miserere
The Visitor
Skinwalker

But these are only some of the games of this author, that are rather different (some have a contemporary setting, others are sci-fi or post apocalyptic) even if they have some distinct element: we play as a weak/harmless protagonist the locations are dark, creepy and with a great, powerful atmosphere. Can this "A night at Hotel Deouce", a RPG Maker VX Ace 2016 adventure, be really different? Spoiler: of course NOT!

Unsettling. I used to have other kind of posters in my bedroom!

Claire is a girl that is on vacation with her mother, but instead of getting their usual hotel, they get a room at Hotel Deuce. Big mistake. At night strange things are happening, and Claire wakes up in the middle of the night to realize that her mother is not there! Where did she go? Even worse, she forgot her teddy bear. But this is just the beginning, and the young girl has to explore the mysterious hotel...

To avoid spoilers, I'll just tell you that in this short 15-20 minutes horror adventure game we've to explore some rooms of the hotel and survive various situations passing some quicktime events in which you've to be pretty quick to press the arrow keys. Despite the presence of some choices in particular instances (that I do not know IF they have any impact on the adventure or not), the story is pretty much linear and simple, but this game is like those good old short horror stories that you can read collected in some horror anthologies. It's not that you will probably try it more than once, but still it's a good and interesting experience.

Visually the game is pretty much perfect for this kind of adventure, the assets used are nice, the setting is dark and mapping is quite good. All contributes to the atmosphere of dread and mystery. Everything looks carefully crafted, from the choice of the style of the window of the dialogues to the corridors of the hotel, and not just for the graphics but also for the eerie sounds heard during the adventure.

Game includes not just exploration, but also some quicktime events!

Final Verdict
"A night at Hotel Deouce" is a pretty short horror scenario probably done in a week or two, not a long project that was done in months of development, still it's a game that has its place. As most other rpgmaker horror games (including the others made by Stormowl, but also many of those made by other authors) this is a short story that leaves much to the imagination, with little gameplay but it cannot be deny that's really a well made product and a nice horror scenario with lots of attention to the details, clearly aimed to those players who likes this kind of adventures and themes.

Sorry about the late reply to the review, I don't really come around here anymore, except when I somehow get reminded of my gamemaking days, but thanks for the review! Always fun to read a new review and be reminded what the games I made are about, cuz I can hardly remember myself anymore.

Your games are important and left a long lasting impact. I literally saved the skinwalker creepy face into my inspiration folder for what I've been working on the other day
