Not a masterpiece, but great for what it is.

Pros

+Fun: Quite simply put, this game is fun. It's a very traditional dungeon crawler, but it's one that understands how to do that. The battles are very well balanced; the monsters are tough, they have unique skills and strengths and weaknesses and the game actually requires you to use strategy.

+Lots to do: Though the demo doesn't show this off well, the game uses a quest journal and introduces a few sidequests.

Cons

-Difficult: As I said before, the battles are quite difficult, and they're also a little too frequent. I was constantly going in and out of the dungeon to make trips to the inn and item shop. Thank GOD for the teleport statue.

-Not very original: A lot of things in this game are from somewhere else, whether they be graphics, music, or the scripts used. The only real stroke of creative genius here was the alchemy system.

-Bad Plot: This game does not focus on storyline. The writing is alright and there's some nice chemistry between Darato and Konata, but all in all the plot is pretty bland. It does keep a little bit of interest and give you a reason to go from point A to point B, however, and that's all this game really needs.

Despite the unoriginality and lacking presentation, this is a very solid, fun game that's definitely worth your time.

Well, thanks for the review, TooManyToasters!

After seeing this review, I believe my game had the intended effect on you, at least.

I feel I've really succeeded when I see you mention how well I pulled off the battle gameplay. I'm glad you liked it and I bet many others feel the same way. I put a lot of effort in making it as good, balanced and strategic as possible! I'll try to expand on the game's open-endedness (as in being able to do more) as well.

I didn't focus in storyline very much, but I'm planning to do so in the next release. I'll certainly have to flesh out the story way more in the first chapter, and I've been making it much more influential in the game starting from chapter 2, as well.

Perhaps the originality issue most likely won't be solved easily, as most scripts and game strategies are easily already taken and used by other games... I'll try to event out more.

Thanks again for your review, it's very good feedback!

I would say leave the original part last. RPgs by nature aren't very original, and your game design this far is following the traditional old-style RPG way, which will be quite difficult to alter at this point. I would rather have a good cliche RPG rather than an average revolutionary one. Better focus on the story and on the other big assets of this game (quest system, alchemy, professions etc), and if you have time work on your originality.
