It's an adventure for dogs!

Hello and welcome to Dog Adventure, the adventure of a dog!
Well the protagonist is Huge Dogger (or whatever alias you will choose), a normal dog that has a strange dream in which a voice tells him that he has to open a hole in an underground passage near his house. Well this is only an excuse for one of the wildest and weirdest adventure in a bizarre world.
It's a story about exploding people, cursed mansions, weird scientists, sand collectors, dancing guards and evil temporal jazzmen!

Ok total madness isn't it?

What's this thing? Oh do not worry, Dog Module is friendly and very helpful!

Well this is just an excuse for combat inside dungeons, exploration and puzzles. So despite the wacky exterior there is a serious game, trust me! This appearance is a wild mix of Rtps and various sprites and pictures taken from various sources including memes. The aspect is of a cheesy bad game, and that's probably the intent. Mapping is lazy, some sprites look totally out of place, there are typos, but all is done for parody (of the bad games): stupid quests, stupid characters and weird sounds abound and there are obvious references to other games (like Rambo for Nes!) or parts where the dialogues hint that the facesets do not match the charsets or if the battler is totally different from the character just seen!

But enough about aestetics! Let's talk about the gameplay, starting from combat inside dungeons: these places are often almost empty except for chests of loots and enemies are met with the old and classic random encounters! Meh. At least you can run away and save anytime and anywhere. But there are just the bad aspects, because there are some good ones: first is that dungeons often contains puzzles, some are obligatory and others are optional. Second is how combat works, because as soon as you get the second party member things becomes more interesting.

Well that's exactly the effect that this weird mix of puzzles, humor and crazy situations doing to me!

Yes, the Huge Dogger is mainly an attacker (but he will get some new skills after some levels including self licking/healing) but the wondrous Dog Module is very versatile, able to heal, attack, cure bad conditions and even recharge his Energy! Learning how to use the members of the tesm is essential to win especially against bosses, because they're far more dangerous than the normal enemies (that are not a big threat, if you do not skip every combat so that you will find yourself under-levelled!).

Then there is exploration: this is mostly done for fun and profit since going around, talking with everyone will let you read many strange dialogues and also obtain some loot, gold, items and consumables. So why not? Oh and there are some different spots and people that can full heal the party (but no inns to rest so it's no use looking for them!). There are also some (veeeery boring) optional and repeteable fetch quests if you are desperate and want more money, but I do not think there is need for that. Anyway it's your choice!

Finally puzzles! And that's where the game gets serios! Puzzles are well done and not always easy: sometimes they test your mathematic and logic skills, other times they're about colors and other times they need to repeat a precise series of sounds. And more. Ok sometimes there is no explanation about what you are supposed to do to proceed, not just with the puzzle but also with the adventure segments (that part in which you have to find a statue to replace the broken one just to open the door of the temple was... well a bit absurd and I do not know how I realized what I had to do. But there are other cases), and luckily the game world is not huge so most times all that you need will be nearby, anyway... I will treat this as a part of the parody aspect of the game but it's not always a nice thing!

AAAAAAAAAA! That's scaryyy! Let's end the review right now!

Final Verdict
Dog Adventure is a game with bad mismatched graphics, nice and balanced but unoriginal combat and tough puzzles! At least this was my experience with it. It's also a medium lenght adventure, so if you are expected a short parody experience... well you will find more! While wacky and absurd I found many dialogues and situations pretty amusing, so yes, it was good even if I'm not a big fan of puzzles, nor I like wandering aimlessly interacting with everything just to figure out what I am supposed to do.

Aside from these little problems that may be big of small flaws, there is a really nice game, maybe not for everyone but still interesting for many aspects!
