Sacred Reviews: The Way You Want It

"The Way You Want It" is an extremely short visual novel developed by roguecanoe using RPG Maker VX Ace. A visual novel that has nine unique endings based on your choices, but getting to any particular ending is usually pretty quick since most of the endings can be reached in under three minutes of playtime. In fact, you'll probably experience a few endings before you find one of the longer paths through the game if your the sort to randomly trust the first person you see upon waking up in a strange location.

Though despite the short nature of the game you can start to piece what's going on if you explore the various paths for a bit. If you do so you'll learn that Allen and you used to be good friends before your death and that he has used dark magic to both bring you back from the dead as well as grant you eternal youth. And I'm guessing he also applied that last process to himself as well so you can basically spend the rest of eternity as young lovers. A decision that is the player's to make I suppose, but you can also choose to murder Allen and forge your own bloody path to independence.

Or you can choose to simply close your eyes and refuse to wake up and not see the evil man that Allen has become in order to be with you. Or you can choose to simply follow his orders and live in ignorant bliss. The choice was always yours to make in any case. After all, that's the way you wanted it.

At the same time the various paths the story can take are also enhanced with some rather simple but effective art. Art that looks like it was probably created using something like MS Paint, but it does have a simple charm to it.

On the other hand the game's soundtrack appears to be entirely based on the RTP that comes with RPG Maker VX Ace. So the game sounds like a ton of other games I've played over the years.

Even so I'd say this is probably worth a quick look if you got a few minutes to spare. Albeit you'll probably have to playthrough the game a few times to get the entire story and truly find the way you want it to end.
