pianotm and zDS have been hard at work composing tracks for the remaster and I think that it is high time I shared some of their works!
Keep in mind that all of these tracks are works-in-progress, but frankly they are all better than I could have hoped for when I embarked on this remaster project. I lucked out.
Here is a sampling of some of the tracks they have submitted:
https://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/105/locker/Holdana.ogg
Holdana's Theme (Chapter 1 World Map)
https://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/105/locker/Heros_Realm_Battle_Version_2.ogg
Hero's Battle (main battle theme)
https://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/105/locker/Arab_Village.ogg
Arabian Village
https://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/105/locker/shipslower.ogg
Ship Shape
The sound font we chose isn't strictly an SNES soundfont (would that even be legal?) but it does have SNES-era vibe. I am quite amazed at the pace they have been working, and look forward for what they have in store next!

Those all sound really awesome. Great job so far guys! Seriously! I think Arabian Village is my favourite of them but Holdana's theme is a very close second and the others aren't far behind either. >.<)b
holdana's theme sounds appropriate, has some chilly bits amidst the heroism. like libby said, arabian village is really good too... the instruments are bizarre but i think that's fitting for HR
I'm a bit concerned that the same 90 second loop is going to be playing during... every non-boss battle encounter in the game? It's been so long that I forget if HR originally had a battle theme for each chapter.

The final version that zDS has done is a lot more pleasing to the ears. I don't see why it should be a problem, when most AAA games have had 60 to 100+ hour runtimes since the early 90s and have never changed up their standard battle themes. I don't even know if that's something people talk about.

Maybe there will be more than one battle theme. Like how there were 5 separate battle loops in DQ4, there might be oh, I don't know 2 or three different generic battle loops per chapter.
Unsolicited audio advice time:
-The strings and brass playing the lead melody of Holdana's theme could be a smidge higher in the mix, as the harp kind of overwhelms them, but it's pretty good as is.
-The battle theme's rhythm section is pretty loud, which is fine, but having the strings or possibly the little brassy synth come in louder would provide some nice dramatic tension via changes in dynamics. Upon repeat listening, the mixing here isn't too bad, though; I might be pushing personal preference here.
-The ostinato in Arabian Village is way too loud; you've essentially made two notes the loudest thing in the mix, so that's going to become a source of irritation for players; I would pull that way down so the lead melody can come through instead. Personally, I would throw in some varieties to that rhythm as well, but if you're trying to convey "desert town steadily moving forward" and feel a need to have an ostinato to convey that, then I understand.
-Ship Shape is mixed very well; I've got no problems with that.

Holdana: Would bringing the harp down a bit work instead? These strings grate on the ears if I turn them up too high. Also, that trumpet kind of screams, too, so dialing up the horn, which is much gentler, might be the way to go with bringing up the brass.
Battle Theme: This was zDS's. He's changed it pretty dramatically. Any criticism on this one is lost.
Arabian Village: I understand what you're saying here. I'll try other versions and see how it sounds.
Ship Shape: Thanks!

Yeah, bringing the harp down a bit will work as well; the important thing is the difference between the dynamics. Like I said, though, I'd just tinker with that one, as the mixing is pretty close to where it should be.

Did I upload the wrong one? Or is there a different one that he hasn't uploaded to me yet but shared with you?

Oh! I didn't listen to it! I thought this was posted before zDS made his final arrangement.

B-But I'm talking about it! Am I people?
The "AAA" RPGs of yesteryear did a lot of things the genre shouldn't be proud of, like locking playable characters behind a safe-cracking minigame to sell paperback guidebooks.
The actual answer was that listening to anyone JPRG battle theme for 60 hours was grating and soul-crushing

The actual answer was that listening to anyone JPRG battle theme for 60 hours was grating and soul-crushingunless it was Mystic Quest's theme, but we just sort of dealt with it because we didn't know better. Granted, this is a game that hinges on random encounters and hidden items, but people are nostalgic for the type of tune. Not the quantity of that tune.
This is probably one of the reasons that Tales games have three or more regular battle themes throughout the course of the game, usually switching to a new one after a major story event, or at the start of a new plot arc. You MIGHT get away with one battle theme if your game is short enough. But if you're making anything longer than 10 hours, you might want to get a good rotation in there.
Well, if the composers are up for making like 8 battle themes, I'm of course for it. But that sounds like a lot of work.
I might have had a special boss battle theme here or there, but the main battle theme was used for all battles throughout the game.
That's what I based my original requests on.
author=LouisCyphreIt did not. I used the same battle theme for all regular battles, and had a different theme for "important"/boss battles, a unique theme for the Kumite arena battles (actually was the theme from Punch-Out!!), and a final boss theme.

I think a second battle theme should have great importance in the shift of mood in the game. Modern Tales throws way too many at the player and makes most of them forgettable in my humble opinion.
That said, I was always considering discussing with piano and kentona about having a second battle theme for Chapter 5. Maybe even a different one for an especially foreign character like Dragon Quest 4. I know Piano is totally down for it as I would be too.

Obviously things like the Ginyu force will be different in Heroic Edition, but what about Mephistocles? Will he be Satan, Asmodeus, or Mephisto now?
What really got me on this train of thought was actually this:
Which evolves into the following themes as the game progresses:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toIInfwkGps
Now, imo, the ideal solution is to simply have dungeon music with a ~5-8 minute main loop that plays through your minor battles. But that's about as appropriate for Hero's Realm as a Sphere Grid is.
Whatever you end up doing, I'm sure it'll be sick! I dig what you've done so far a lot.
Satancles? Asmodeuscles? Baalcles? Testicles?
...Kentonacles.
