pianotm and zDS have been hard at work composing tracks for the remaster and I think that it is high time I shared some of their works!

Keep in mind that all of these tracks are works-in-progress, but frankly they are all better than I could have hoped for when I embarked on this remaster project. I lucked out.

Here is a sampling of some of the tracks they have submitted:

Holdana's Theme (Chapter 1 World Map)

Hero's Battle (main battle theme)

Arabian Village

Ship Shape

The sound font we chose isn't strictly an SNES soundfont (would that even be legal?) but it does have SNES-era vibe. I am quite amazed at the pace they have been working, and look forward for what they have in store next!

Captain Cankle.

Man, I have so MANY overt references that I need to tone down to subtle ones. I will keep track of them somewhere.
Oh, that reminds me. Will you be able to use the Knights of Rodan song? It's in my random midi playlist and I've always seen it as an iconic part of Hero's Realm.

unfortunately, no. It is a great song though. Hoping my composers use it as inspiration!
I'll inspire to make the complete opposite of everything that song stands for.

Just kidding.

To quote Yahtzee in his Persona 5 review:

If you're going to make a 60 hour RPG, have a speck of fucking mercy and have more than one music track for standard battles. Doesn't matter how good the track is. Bohemian Rhapsody is good, but if I have to listen to the first 30 seconds 40 times an hour for three days, I'd end up wanting to travel back in time and skull fuck the idea out of Freddie Mercury's living brain.

So yeah, I'm on board with changing up the battle themes. Since you have a Chapter 1 World Map theme, I assume there will be a different world map theme for each chapter? If so, can I ask why there are separate world map themes and not battle themes?

I think a second battle theme should have great importance in the shift of mood in the game. Modern Tales throws way too many at the player and makes most of them forgettable in my humble opinion.

Tales music is definitely forgettable, I agree, but I don't think it's because of the amount of battle tracks featured. Right now, I can hum all the melodies of every battle theme in Symphonia, a game I haven't touched in years, but I can't even remember a single track in Berseria, which I finished a couple of months ago.
Symphonia had good pacing for the battle music change and a reasonable amount. Two main ones, and one for a last dungeon. Three normal battle themes. I meant the ones after mostly like Graces and what not. We're planning on three as well.
Hero's Realm isn't a 60 hour game. It's roughly 22 hours.

But I figure if one music track is good enough for all standard battles in Dragon Quest III, IV, Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI, it's good enough for Hero's Realm. That is my inspiration afterall!

The original game had a standard battle theme, an "important/miniboss" theme, and two special final battle themes (Shadowstorm and Mephistocles). It also had a special battle theme for the arena battles in Chapter 3. Keeping in mind that I used rips galore and could easily have used 17 different battle themes throughout the game. For the remaster I requested a standard theme, important theme, and final boss theme.

I have requested an ambitious 27 different tracks, plus an additional 11 "extra" tracks (one of which is the arena battle theme), and now we are also entertaining a couple or few more battle themes.
I personally agree with kentona here. I actually miss games with just one battle song. You guys need to go back into the good ol days. :sunglasses:
