New questions:
- how do you get Jeeves, Tinder, and Aila?
- is there a Joker for Leon?
- whose Joker is in Inner Core Shaft 2?
- will I have to play the whole game again to get any of the above (hope not)?

1. Secret characters are unlocked by getting the extra abilities for all of your characters from the Jokers. They'll unlock with each ability you get.
2. Yes.
3. I don't remember, maybe Leon's? I think I remember getting his extra EX move from there...
4. No.

Thanks for the clarification, and yeah I'm pretty much set on killing the Behemoth at full power, since I did ask about it, collected some data data on it, and am already preparing, might as well. Not sure if I will be able to record it though, since it may be kind of long due to how much HP the thing has.

Original reason of why I was curious was because the game didn't give me an instant Game Over when I was discovered and it went into a battle where I wasn't hit for maximum damage at the very start as well, so I thought that killing it then and there would've given something extra.

But, I have ran into a problem, having trouble finding the Tinderbot MKIII the third time. Tried both the Dam Facility and the Jackal labs, but so far I can't find it. Do I have to search harder in those areas or go deeper?

I had a total facepalm moment on that one as well...

Check the Rebel Base Harbor, where you snagged the boats earlier in the game.

Also, I've finally made it into the core, Neok. This place is total win so far.

If anyone else wants a clue as to what it's like...

Thanks, only 24 more levels to go, guess I better get started on it again.
Wow, I hope you have a savegame before all of this, b/c at this rate, the last couple of postgame bosses will be a cakewalk.

Hmm, okay. If you actually pull this off, let me know, and I'll tell you something interesting :).

...
Wait, are you saying that we don't have to beat the full-powered Behemoth to get to the final boss? Thought I heard that there was a shard that we can only get if we beat the full-powered version. It's basically the only reason I'm doing this.

In my first endgame save, my main party's average level is about 54-55, not sure if that's still too high.

Actually, I've heard that you can only get a certain shard if you DON'T fight the fully -powered Behemoth, since you need to weaken it to get to where the shard is. I haven't actually gotten to that point yet, though, so I don't know for certain.

(Is there any reward for beating the Behemoth at full power in the first place, anyway? o_O)

I think my previous post might have been misunderstood...

I stated that if you want to collect all the shards, you're forced to trigger the battle with the weakened behemoth to get one of them. That means that you're forced to walk over a tile that triggers the battle. There SHOULD be nothing stopping you from getting the shard no matter how you go about killing the behemoth. It's just, if you want to kill him at full strength, you'll be forced to wait until you kill him at full strength to get that last shard. Neok mentioned that it's possible to reset optional content by beating the final boss as well, so in theory even if you DO get the shard by killing the weakened behemoth you can just reset everything and take your party to fight the full strength behemoth again.

Basically, just think of things this way: To get all the shards, you must kill the Behemoth, period. It doesn't matter how you do it as long as you do it. Sorry if I ended up causing any confusion...

Also, just made it to the core and tried my hand at the boss there. I don't know what I did to make him hate me so much, but I'm pretty sure he pulled every single possible dick move in the book on me before I eventually lost. It's been awhile since I've run into a boss that's beatable, but just plain rude like that. I approve. :D

I'll say this: My design policy is that when a switch or lever stops being used for anything, I remove the ability to access it.

And as an aside, can you send me your save file? I want to check to make sure there's enough shards to get all abilities. I already did this check once with tester's, but just in case, let's do it again.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I had assumed that the switches were reset just like the ones in the sewer were when I switched phases. Of course, I was wondering why the elevator still worked, but I figured it was a minor bug or something.

I pm'd you a link to my save file.

A Signal Ring? That's news to me... Where can you find Tinderbot 3?
For Tinderbot 3, that sidequest unlocks by visiting Tinder's Hideout in Phase 2 after you've beaten the game, then going back to "Phase 9" and visiting Tinder's Hideout, which should now be visible on the map, again. He'll tell you to track down Tinderbot 3 in the Factory. You'll have to chase it all over the place in the end, though.

Also, it's official now. This shard is now the last one, I went to the other two areas and got those. This is it. And I have no idea where it might be that I haven't looked in the Ground Floors of Oberon Tower.

Edit: Crud. Even with the shard in this tower, it STILL seems I'll be short one shard to buy the ability I messed up with earlier. So anyone know any ways to get shards that don't involve finding them or getting them from GQuiz?

Edit2: Oh... *phew* looks like I overlooked one in O.P. 3. Hopefully that one and the Tower shard is all I'll need...

Edit3: Crud. It wasn't the one I needed. I'm now back to the situation I was in before. I need to find the shard in Oberon Tower and at least one more shard after that one. Hopefully no more than that...

Ok, I've been searching for a shard that the Signal Ring says exists on the Ground Floors of Oberon Tower. But I can't find it at all. I've been in every room I can find, but it's not in any of them. I mean, this place isn't exactly a maze or anything, so I'm 99% sure I've combed the area adequately. Is it possible for the GPS to not be indicating an exit inside the area to me? Or perhaps the Signal Ring is just broken as far as the tower is concerned?

The only thing left here is the SNEWS article.

Well, that's interesting to know about the Behemoth. I might have an equipment setup that let's me survive him now, I just need a ton of Stimulant C's, Speed Boosters, and Toxication Fields along with the correct Reinforce for Erin. I've gotten her speed up to 32 with the help of the Al Di La, which seems to really help out. I couldn't see the speed crush effect for the ex boost from the gear I was wearing. That definitely explains a lot.

As for the Shard Finder, it seems to be called the Signal Ring. I believe that the reward for tracking the Tinderbot Mk3, but don't remember for certain. After doing a search, it does seem that I'm missing shards from at least three areas still. Oh well...

I figured out why I don't have the last character. Apparently I DID miss one Joker by virtue of having bought the ability, and not saved somehow. Funny thing is I can't afford it now. So once I get it, that SHOULD be it. Thanks for that tip Neok, I'd have not double checked if you hadn't said that.

Jake isnt that bad...

Don't forget his EX. It's the only 5-Hit-All move in the main cast, making it rather unique. Bonus points for it being a spell as well. Granted, by the end-game his EX is pretty much the only reason I'd consider using him anymore. Analyze is but icing on the cake. A CRISIS powered Jake can be surprisingly useful on the final boss, wiping the board with a mere two EX's.

I will second Hawk as being a bit underwhelming by the end of the game. Save for his amazing HP growth, his EX isn't terribly impressive when he has a normal move that's almost as good. Considering that both require activation or his uber weapon to be equipped, it helps him even less.

I have to say that Dread is about average, but his uber-weapon has some very interesting potential with his Ravage skill. I wonder how well it would perform with a Zero-System? Dread might be a good candidate for fighting the Behemoth at full strength. It's weak to fire, and he has a good HP growth...

I like to think that, levels aside, the cast is reasonably balanced against one another until you hit the end-game, where your EX moves or the number of hits you can deliver at once are the only thing that really matters. By then, being able to cause a crush status is no longer a useful thing for a character to have as crush fields are easy to come by.

If the SPEAR and GUARDIAN weren't included, then the level issue would become much, much more glaring.

I'm surprised you're even able to get all those skills, ARP. I'm basically stuck where I am due to the fact that I don't have any more Aurora shards to spend on multiple characters' skills. If you can remember some of places where you found them in the locations I listed above, it would help me a lot.

I remember getting several shards from the G-Quiz. I got super lucky and found him twice while running around looking for Jokers & various other pieces of gear. I was able to finish the quiz in two go's, despite there being one accidental(or not?) question from the original Alter A.I.L.A. thrown into the hundred (how the heck am I supposed to remember the stimulant colors from a game I played a few years ago??). I'm still not entirely sure I've gotten all of the shards. I can say that if you skip Behemoth to fight him at full strength later, you won't get all the shards. You MUST pass over the laser to get one of them. Getting the shard at Below Stynx 2 was somewhat annoying and basically trial and error. There was a shard hidden in the Jackal Labs I totally missed until I randomly happened onto it in the post-game. I believe there was a hidden path in the main control room that leads to it. Oh, and I also forgot that there was one in the sewers that I missed my first time through. There was a dry waterway you could enter and get a shard. GPS basically made my day when it came to finding everything. It also helps that I'm a somewhat compulsive explorer when I find new areas for the first time. Honestly, the fact I've had to make at least one trip back to each area searching for Jokers after I got the GPS is the only reason I've found all of what I have. Over half of my shards can be accounted for from my Joker man-hunt and the G-Quiz. I still feel like I'm missing a single shard or two, though. I hope I have them all. It helps that I also have that shard radar that pings when I enter a zone that still has a shard. Though that was a very recent pickup.

By the way, does anyone know if there are enough shards to gain extra skills for every character? Having to pick and choose would make me very sad, but either I'm terrible at exploring or there aren't enough shards for ten characters. (There would have to be at least 20 of each type, I believe...)
I'm pretty sure there are, since it seems like getting all the extra skills is required to enter a certain optional area. Of course, I'm just assuming based on what I know.

Yeah, it does seem that way. It really bugs me, as I'm only lacking one skill right now and can't purchase it cause I don't yet have the character (granted, I also might not be able to afford it too, but there's no way to know yet). I don't know how to unlock that character, but am banking on getting her after finishing all of the available optional character mirror battles. At the least, I see no other way to do it for now. So if there is another way, do tell and save me the trouble of trying to power level all the optional characters (although I will certainly power level the last one if only for the hilarity that would ensue from me using her). Sadly, I'm finally approaching roughly 50% completion of that task.
