U.S. Imperialism & Homophobia
There's nothing beyond that for you to do. Anyone who suggests otherwise is problematic. You can't force racist people top stop, unfortunately. It's a shame, and its causing a lot of unneeded tension on societies. :(
(There is also no way this topic or any of its posters is denying racism, for anyone who would claim otherwise.)
It is very bad that a person had to change their name just to get a job, it's disheartening and very real proof that racism exists still today.
people are cancerous to this earth

What are you thinking about right now?
Yeah, the Founding Fathers religious beliefs, notably the lack of them or the desire for a secular government, is relevant. As it led to the creation of an intended secular government. I am loving all that you've been linking GRS though!
So apparently opinions aren't allowed on the internet anymore.
lel is making a status necessary.
an opinion is a bad one when it seeks to harm others or deprive them of rights. yes you have the right to having one, but that doesn't give you an excuse.
all in all, you're being really whiny about something that's already over. lel straight people these days

this topic should be archived immediately, it is the cancer on my relatively clear history here on rmn
I wonder if Emmych will even respond at this point.

U.S. Imperialism & Homophobia
Yes, it's inevitable that a superpower like the U.S. acts like an imperial force. But not so directly as other nations in the past, and our imperialism was much more apparent 50 some odd years ago.
What are you thinking about right now?
If you have an opinion on same sex marriage that needs to be hidden to prevent "flame wars" or whatever, I'd assume it'd be one against it. And sorry to break it to you, but being against same-sex marriage is homophobic.
The Founding Fathers religious beliefs are actually very relevant to the matter js
but regardless i'm done talking about it here
In other news I REALLY WANT TO GET MY COMPUTER WITH VX ACE ON IT BACK. the charger has been broken for like 5 weeks now and i'm literally dying inside from not being able to work on diabolica.

MajoracanKing, contrary to your flawed belief, many of the Founding Fathers were not devout followers of Christianity. And homosexuality wasn't a big or important thing at that time as it is now. They did not write it with the Christian population at mind. So don't you dare use the Founding Fathers as an excuse for your homophobia.
So stop with your homophobic bigoted evangelical opinion that is based on misconception, please.
ALSO: the founding fathers did not write anything about marriage rights in the constitution you tool. step off. that was probably the least important thing to them at the time, if even a thing at all.
now there are people who can't marry who they want to because of stuck up assholes like you. homosexuality harms nobody.

But seriously, slashphoenix, what are you trying to say? I think that's a bit outside the matter at hand?
The tweeter doesn't care about the LGBT+ community at large, it seems, so don't say that the person is trying to defend the LGBT community and let it be known that the struggles are actually pointless.
Even asserting that the struggles are pointless is hyper-paranoid and rude.

U.S. Imperialism & Homophobia
First and foremost: EMMYCH READ PIANOTM's post. It's spot on.
Homophobia isn't some American import to Africa. Our predecessors were there and spread the Word of God before and after the involvement there. It's hard to believe that African countries were homophobic before WESTERN (the word that should've been used in those tweets) involvement, but American officials didn't just come in one day and say "GAYS R EVILE", fuck up the place, and leave.
And yes, LGBT+ people are being harassed, deprived of marriage rights, killed, discriminated against, and slandered. Right here in America. And being of a non-white race, a woman, or a trans-male/female will make that even worse for you. But are in no way white trans people in charge of the military at any level, and I've never even heard of a person seeking to use homophobia as a weapon for the "big old scary U.S." to oppress an entire continent.
Just because some people who posted don't believe or understand what those tweets were saying, doesn't mean that it is some "circlejerk" of oppression. A lot of what was tweeted contradicted itself.
Both sides have very good points, but emmych to a degree, you are trying to be the guardian of races that can guard themselves. They don't need a "white savior" telling them that they are oppressed and should be upset about it. While racism and other forms of oppression are VERY BAD things, you can only be so involved in certain ones. Being a white person, it is rude to try to tell anyone that they are being oppressed or that they themselves need to be taught about racism. (Not saying that racism is strictly a white person thing.) They decide what they are. Not you. You're just encouraging a divide between races & being hyper-sensitive to everything.
Additionally, racism isn't limited to white people doing it. I know it sounds like "Not all white people", but racism is whenever one or more races target another race. Denying "reverse racism" exists (and even labeling it as that) is bad. While in the U.S. and several other English speaking countries with white skinned majorities, racism against white people is in a sense nonexistent, a white person moving to a country where very few people are white will experience much racism directed towards them. Additionally, in some (probably many of the) Hispanic countries, people of african heritage are the targets of racism by the Hispanic majority. I think Brazil is a notable country where this is so.
There is a rampant victim complex among tumblr social justice activists, and it involves throwing other majorities and minorities and any mix of the two under the bus to compete for "who is the most oppressed" and frankly just provides more excuses to needlessly hate and channel their anger unproductively.
I regret creating this topic now.

I live in the southern part Southwestern Michigan, and frequently make trips to Indiana. 17 couples were married in St. Joseph county yesterday I believe.
However, the Attorney General of the state, Greg Zoeller, has already asked for a stay in the ban on same-sex marriage. Currently, I have no idea if it has been granted, but I expect it will be soon.
Something similar happened in Michigan, where some sort of public official also requested the ban to stay and the appeal is still appending, so same-sex couples cannot get married. :\
