Favorite RPG story and why?
Some of my personal favorites?
FFIV is up there, one part because I admit due to nostalgia being the first FF I played and beat as a kid, but also I love the characters and scenario in the game. It has one of the more diverse casts in an FF, and i think it's what really set the bar in terms of story telling and what to expect out of an FF.
FFXI is also another one. I know a lot of people will groan because it's an MMO, so yes admittedly the story isn't told as tightly as it could be, but despite that the story and villains/characters I found very interesting and a lot of the fights were the toughest I had ever done in an FF before, so a lot of those final save the world boss fights felt extremely epic. Not to mention the game's backstory is beyond amazing, it has probably the richest setting of an FF to date. I've spent so much time just scouring for info on random backstories of NPC's or other characters and myths and such in the game's world.
As for non-FF ones, I'm fond of Lufia and Threads of Fate too. Threads of Fate just had a pretty gripping and interesting story, maybe not overly original but told quite well that I'm still aching for the sequel we will never see.

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y - the 6th generation confirmed!
The full 3D aspects look good, but I can't get too excited for it. I started to become less of a fan starting with 3rd gen when they decided to change the art style for the pokemon and make them a lot more cartoony, that and it's really starting to feel like with 5th gen, that they are running out of pokemon ideas as they simpler get stranger and stranger, and in my opinion worse looking. 4th gen was probably the last good pokemon game that I enjoyed, I doubt I'll even consider getting it when it comes out.
Is expansive too expansive?
I say start small first, figure out how much detail you want towns and dungeons to be (with the time you want to give to the project) and set a reasonable number. Then once you have your goal done or close to done, you can assess how much more you want to add in. Maybe it was easy for you to get what you wanted done so you can then add more, or maybe you'll learn it was a nightmare and getting more expansive is a bad idea.
Either way I say just start it off small and see how things develop and then go from there.

Alternatives to Towns
Well if all you do is just make a town for the sake of being a town, then yes it'll be a drag, but you can always think a little more and make them a bit more themed. So not only is there variety in the towns, but I imagine they become easier and less of a bore to develop. For example you could have towns that,
-Are a ranch town, lots of livestock, not a lot of people/buildings.
-Developed in part of a cliff, so buildings are made of rock that's been hollowed out.
-A nomad village, small huts and small in general, with the idea that they move around a lot most of the time.
-A village separated by islands.
-A village with it's own instant travel to various points.
Just as a few ideas, but I figure if the town has a bit more individuality then it'd probably be less boring to create as opposed to just "Add X number of buildings, include W,Y,Z shops, place in NPC's, script non-important and pointless dialog".

What areas of RPG making really hinder your project?
For me? There's a lot of things, but in general I have a bit of a perfectionist attitude with anything I do, I don't like to just do good, but I like to make it as great as I possibly can. So considering I suck at programming and graphic design I tend to get overwhelmed fast with all the little things I'm not too great at.
Looking to be in a project
So I got that itch to do some development on a game again and quickly remembered how overwhelmed I get when I try to do everything myself (especially the stuff I'm quite bad at). So figured I'd post on here to see if anyone needs help with a project or what not.
As far as where my talents lie, I think I'm best at working on story, character development, scenario, and in general the writing aspects. Though I do like to think I can come up with some interesting boss encounters and dungeons (not towns though, I admit my towns look horrendous >.>).
Anyways if anyone needs help of any sorts I'm more than happy to offer what I can when I can.
