What are you working on now?
Commit 61! Geez, OH is more than a year old now.
This update was getting ability animations in. The capability now exists for every attack to have its own animation; in practice, they all just get a red dot moving from attacker to target, at least for the next while.

RMN Snews - Issue #18
To protect or not to protect, that is the question!
The sense I always had was that the standard encryptions have never really been effective at protecting resources (whether they're original or not, though people might not go to the trouble of extracting non-original stuff).
So all encryption really does is prevent me from changing stuff in the editor, which is a pain because in most RM games I've played I've encountered a couple bugs I want to fix. (I can't remember changing a game for any other reason, such as to bring up walk speed - not because of a particular commitment to someone's artistic vision, it's just that I'll usually quit instead.)
That said, I think that particular point was more of an issue in an "everybody using RM2K(3)" community awhile back. Greater diversity of makers around here doesn't necessarily make games less buggy, but it decreases the odds that I have the maker and the knowhow to do something about bugs.
Your choice, but has this ever happened to anyone? I don't even remember hearing about any translation in the community whose translator didn't get permission from the original creator first.

I tend to at least TRY to protect my own projects, not because of resources, but because I feel uncomfortable about the idea of someone altering my work in the editor and redistributing it. It is more of an attempt at version control.

After mastering RPG Maker, which engine would you suggest using

You aren't "fairly familiar" with RPG Maker 2003. If you want to try using XP/VX anyway it's not as though you have to know RPG2003 first.
This.

It's like the game itself doesn't even care enough to remember his name. I.. Actually don't either, was his name Zalbag or something?
Zalbag is the middle brother, Dycedarg is the oldest. That's mistranslation, not just awkward phrasing.
(The objective is actually to down Dycedarg.)
Out of content - Time to restart, right?
Would you care to name some games (RM and/or RMN games, I suppose) that you feel would be especially improved by this?
I mean, I don't want to just blow you off with "there's something to be said for closure", but I can't recall ever seeing this as much of an issue.

What RMN game are you playing now?
Tell us about an RMN game you're playing, comment on somebody else's post, or both! Because you can't see a comment on a game unless you're already looking at the game page.
Everybody's seen the "What are you working on now" thread by now, the concept shouldn't be too different.
Some guidelines:
-Do NOT tell us about playing your own game. We all testplay, and we don't want to hear about it here.
-Responding to other players is encouraged, even about your own game. The purpose of the thread is to foster discussion! That said, long back-and-forth exchanges where the creator grills one person about things they liked and didn't like might fit better somewhere else? We'll play that by ear.
-No concrete spoiler policy, but keep in mind people may decide to play games based on posts here.
-Meta discussion about the purpose of the thread/what should be in this post is also welcome, as long as it doesn't take over the thread.

I just finished Dhux's Scar. PE was an interesting idea that I don't think really worked out right. Save points were rarely at logical places with regard to saving PE (i.e., the beginning and end of a zone) so the effect was mostly to make me run away from everything in a zone until I reached a save point, then backtrack to that save point until I had to move on. Which was a bit tedious.
(The zone with enemy groups with multiple multitarget stun users may have contributed to this caution.)
Anyway, as my caution would suggest I got the B ending. The plot was really well done; despite the above and some other caveats (bosses really dragged, especially the storyline-only ones) I enjoyed it.

On the Worship of Vaporware
Though this is an important point, having seen a fair number of RPG Maker communities, I tend to think the RMN community is actually relatively good at vaporware-screening.
To the extent that we can be dismissive of new projects compared to older ones, I don't believe it's because we're looking back on nonexistent games or short demos and thinking, "Ah, what could have been." If I say KC(A) was great, it's because I enjoyed a few hours of KC(A), not because I was dreaming about a remade Caspian's Maze.
(ABL is a little funny in this because one of the things it does very effectively is pose a question at the beginning that draws the player in - a question, of course, that's unlikely now to ever be answered fully. Still, there's a fair bit of game there to like if you're so inclined.)

Simple Importing
It would be a good idea to start with what you're trying to import into, you know?
Anyway, in all likelihood you've been trying to use a 24-bit-color PNG in an RPG Maker that only accepts an 8-bit-color PNG. I would guess that most programs that output 24-bit-color PNGs have an option to switch to an indexed-palette mode, so look for that.
