KiraStar: The Polybius Problem

I just played the RSW demo and have the following feedback:

- I really like the unique style of sprites and the cuteness of the graphics.
- I thought the ability to interact with object in the house was a nice touch and hope to see more of it in other parts of the game.
- ATM (Automated Teller Machine) Machine ... seems a bit redundant. Otherwise, well written!
- I thought the idea of how the ATM card and telephone were used quite clever. In the case of the latter, how it allowed an interaction with characters which we don't actually get to see (or will we, in the future?). Wonder if at some point there'll be a cellphone ...
- I found the sound effects to be a bit NES/SNES-ish and the background music to be a bit quiet.
- Maybe I'm a bit confused, but Edgar sounds like a crow, but looks a bit like a black owl ...
- I found the idea of items found wrapped as presents added to wholesomeness of the game.
- Definitely liked animated aspects of the enemy sprites.
- I liked the idea of touch encounters and enemies that regenerate after a certain amount of time. A few of the enemies could have been placed slightly better in the cave.
- I hope the battles and gameplay becomes more interesting as the game goes along.

Thank you very much for the feedback! I totally appreciate it. There's still an awful lot to polish up. :)

The character animations are fantastic! I love all the quirky little mannerisms Dan has. I was just wondering was it intentional to be able to tinker around with the project file???

I've left in unencrypted so people could have a look at how things were done (if they wanted to). One of the easiest ways to learn how to use these engines is by studying what other people have done. It's one of the ways I learnt so much about RPG Maker.

Thanks for the compliment too! :D

Sorry to tell ya this, but you've got some bug squashing to do in the Bugzy Backwoods!

One of the beehives (the one closest to the woods' entrance, I think) doesn't fall down and trigger a battle when you interact with it. Dan moves back and then the game freezes. Also, in the southwest area of the woods there's a path that leads west but when I go that direction a thing pops up that says "Unable to find Audio Memento Mori". Then the game shuts down.

Aside from the BUGS I like the game! At first I thought the enemies were a BIT overpowered but then I leveled up to level two and now those bees are a breeze!

Well I feel very silly! Fixed the bugs and am now uploading the new file!

Sorry about that! :(

*Doublepost* I hate to say it, but I actually wish the sprites were a little more detailed, perhaps a tad larger; the expressiveness of the concept art doesn't carry over to the field sprites. I guess FFVI spoiled me.

Technically they could be larger, but then I'd have to redo the tiles to fit the new size format. KiraStar's visual style is meant to be very clean.

The characters will be nicely animated though, much like the characters in FFVI. :)

The mountains are just a simple background I whipped up. It's looks pretty cool when they come into view. :)
I was expecting the answer to be background. :)

Anyway, this game looks like it's gonna be totally awesome! I was wondering, how hard do you think the game's going to be? Am I going to have to grind for 3 hours to be able to beat some boss or am I gonna be breezing through it? Or is the difficulty more in the middle of these two?

Hopefully I can reach a nice middle ground between the two. It's gonna take a lot of tweaking to get it just right. :)

Ooh-la-la! Are the mountains a background or actual tiles you placed? I can guess the answer but I had to ask!

Cooly! this looks like a great game :D
i can't wait to play it when it comes out ^^
have not played the earthbound series, if this game is good i might give it a go :3
so you made the sprites yourself? thats awesome! :D I also love the character pictures. Jack looks like quite the trouble maker XD

I highly recommend you check out Earthbound, as it is one of the best RPGs ever made, ever. A wonderfully charming experience.

Every single sprite and tile in the game has indeed been made by myself. It's been a lot of work, but I find it very enjoyable. Hopefully it's pleasant to the eye. XD

You're not wrong about Jack either, he's a bit of a scamp! :)

This map is so cute. :D

Also, eliminate the yellow lines going into the driveway. Those are "do not pass" lines. (Unless you use them to turn left.) You could put some light dirt residue in its place.

That's a very good point! Never thought about that. Thanks! :)

It's the font from Final Fantasy 3/6. I'd love the EB fonts too!

Another little reference sneaks it's way into the game...
