I can't get the gate open in the first cave.. Where do I hind the key??
Sorry for the late reply.
Minor Spoiler: There's a box near the beginning of the cave with a shovel inside it. You need that shovel. There are some dirt piles and empty boxes scattered around the level and to get across the chasm you'll need a rope.
FYI: There's a great Let's Play series for Cliche Quest EP1 here: (more spoilers)

Added Gameplay Tips to this page's description for anyone who needs a little extra help or advice playing Cliche Quest!
Cliche Quest
V1.02dRev3: Minor Bug Fix for SECRET EXTRAS and added visual save cues before mini-boss rooms in Crumbling Dungeon. A few balance passes on enemies and enemy encounters have been added in the past few days as well. If you redownload the latest version you should be able to copy your save from the old game folder to the new one and continue playing.

I had to reupload most of the images for this because I didn't realize if they weren't 544x416 or close to that, they would cause only half the image to be displayed with an annoying scrollbar window. I just don't want anyone to think I reuploaded my pics just to bump them on the frontpage.

There are actually some card based battle systems mad for RPG Maker. If you want to straight up make your own trading card type game there are actually game engines for that purpose.
There are many for VX already, here is one for Ace.

I'm not telling you what to do but it sounds like you were looking for something like this.

Nope. It was a "death grinder" type of game (the ones where you will constantly die due to various, stupid circumstances) that was submitted to Drakiyth's Crappy Games Contest on the Charas-Project Forum. As most of Drak's videos are taken down, you'll probably never find it, but it was hilarious. I think it had a T-Rex pop out of nowhere and killed you. xD
Ah yeah, I tried to look it up but the download and youtube videos were all dead links.

I remember playing a joke game with the exact same name as this.
... Don't worry about it, though, I kind of like this one. :P
I noticed the week before I posted this there was another game on the Steam Workshop that was released called "Cliche Quest of Saving the Princess and other almost heroic deeds DEMO" which appears to be very much one of those "joke" type games. Is that the game you're referring to?
The original intro/trailer I made for Cliche Quest was posted in 2009.
After doing a little more digging I was able to find two games that released very partial demos, one from 2004 and one from 2010 with the same name that were both abandoned. The 2004 one predates mine which I guess just goes to show that a game about unoriginal games isn't very original. :P
I think I can safely say though this is the best and most complete game called Cliche Quest that you're likely to play.

One small question: What's with the images looking like they're double-sized?
That's just for the screenshots. The game uses default resolution though.
Edit: Ah, I see the issue. The length of the image window is fixed here on RMN so it creates an annoying scrollbar. Ehhh...nerts. I'll have to fix that.

Yep, it's good to go now. And the game will be released as 6 episodes. Each episode will expand the game world and include all previous content. Saves can be copied and continued from one episode to the next.

If this is a full release, you might want to mark your game as complete.
EDIT: Darn! I played the wrong version. And I was just about to give this a good ol' review;oh well. Hope you didn't lose too much progress
It's still in development aside from the time I lost from the Steam Cloud screwing up syncing my project files. I think I lost about a day or a day and a half. It's somewhere between 20-25% complete right now.
Fortunately, I took notes on the stuff I was working on.
