Heartache 101 ~Sour into Sweet~

author=Timeless_swgh
Wow the game is still receiving updates !? And i felt old for playing a 2011 game in 2020 ! The unlockable content reminds me of the time you unlocked things in games, now you buy them... And i'm not even that old.

Anyway sorry for rambling but i read some other recent comment here and got and felt that. Anyone has a clue on how to effectively progress character stories ? Even if they're lovesick they're not progressing most of the time. Is it only based on pure luck or something ? Should i date them more ?

What you need to do to progress a certain route pretty much depends on the character you're pursuing.

Generally speaking you should pay close attention to any conversation, especially if one of your interests is talking about liking some place or meeting somewhere with some one. Or if a friend of "your girl to be" talks about some event that might involve her.

But yes, luck is certainly a factor on most routes.

Also, not spending every single of your afternoons with trying to improve one of your stats might help, too. Maybe the next important encounter with "her" is waiting to happen in some place like "Market Street" or the Shrine?

My entry, Ultra Smug, is up as well!
It's a little under 1 MB.

Head over to the gamepage for gameplay instructions:

I think you might find this screenshot from my upcoming entry somewhat familiar:

My game is done! And I even copied it to a real floppy disk to prove it can fit!

GASP!

You still own one of these? And it's even working?

So, I started scouting options and using a fantasy console (such as Pico-8) def looks like one. Bitsy is another option, but that one requires internet browser to run (methinks).

As there's some of us (like me) who chose to write JavaScript based browser games, you'd hardly be the only one to require an internet browser to run your game.

(Also, I think it's a pretty safe bet that anybody participating in this event does own one ;) )

Picks engine that looks easy, spends hours trying to figure out how to give a cat a jellyfish. Looks at 10 minutes of gameplay and wonders if its possible.
If it helps you: I just asked my cat and her opinion on jellyfish is "Meh."

Looks as if it started 8 hours ago.

I thought we'd get an "Event has started" notice automatically.

Also: to me it looks like the event's start time is "Midnight, UTC" that's why I'm asking.

Have we started yet?

AKA: which time zone is it anyway?

I do like browsers:

"Autoplay is only allowed when approved by the user, the site is activated by the user, or media is muted."

In other words: modern browsers won't autoplay any sounds unless the biological entity in front of the screen explicitly asked them to do it.

.wavs files are infamous for being bloated. Less than a minute of it can lead to several times over 1.44 Mb.

You might be able to get away with .ogg if you're willing to go into a file's metadata and clear out all you can. Still wouldn't be suitable for music though.
I'm aware that .wav files are not very efficient, and real music files using anything but .midi would eat through the 1.44 MB restriction like it was candy, but I'm planing to keep sound minimal.

Luckily, a high quality sound track wouldn't fit the style of my project anyway.

Might get way tougher then I thought, though. What's one of the first hits when googling for "8 bit sound"? A pamphlet on the history of computer music and it influence on--whatever.

The next is about sound effects for old-style games ... recorded in 16bit at 44kHz sampling (or 24bit at 48kHz) .... right.
