Worst video games you've played this year
Hmm... Bad games?
Well, there were a few that I had unpleasant experiences with- Dark Cloud was bearable up to Queens only because I've nulled myself to mindless, repetitive gameplay via E.V.O. (which is actually an amazing game) Dark Cloud had a nice premise to it, and I was interested for as long as I was. Then I gave up because they took a really nice idea (putting the village together) and bogged it down with hours of droning, excruciating dungeon gameplay and horrific combat systems. Yuck.
Growlanser Generations was fun, and the music, gameplay and battle system had it's charm. But there was only nine hours of gameplay- not really long enough to try and incorporate the personality-building factor that they did. The main character was cute and all, but pretty hair and funny arm-sleeves can only get you so far. I don't want to be saving the world at level 23.
I heard that a lot of people disliked Saga Frontier, but my best friend absolutely loves that game to death, and she has impeccable taste in games. Just had to stick up for it.
While I liked .Hack 3, using PREGNANCY and DIGITAL CATS to robb me of both my mages and making me scavenge the earth for endless hours trying to find that stupid "I" gate key was NOT COOL. So I stopped playing.
I played the first Halo earlier this year. I love first person shooters, but this one just made me sick. Physically. But it was just from the spinning camera. (How Halo makes me sick and not things like Metroid and Doom, I don't know.)
I think those are all my bad game experiences thus far.

The "Here's an idea" thread
I have an idea that I may start working on when I finish Jasmine- (And I should, eventually, that game really isn't a very ambitious project)
Silly as it sounds, it's based off the premise of the "Ghost Hunters" TV show. Original characters would be used. Each level would be an area with a limited number of rooms. At the start of each level, you use your resources- (Cameras, Teammates, Audio Recorders) and decide where to put them around the building based of clues. (Artifacts, discussion, electronic or literary resources) The level starts at night, where you wander around the area for a limited time hoping to see some paranormal activity for yourself. Whether or not anything was seen or recorded could easily be measured by switches. The game itself wouldn't take any hard-core programming.
At the end of the level, it would grade you based on how much activity you recorded out of how much actually went on. Some events could only be "recorded" by one kind of equipment and not the other.
I don't think I described it very well, but it's something I'd like to do. I'd probably use RTP for it, however, only editing things when there was certain content I needed. Making a lot of original graphics for Jasmine has lead me to realize that it's not something I'd want to do in a project like the one I just described- it'd probably never get finished.

Pregnant Man
author=myersguy link=topic=841.msg11680#msg11680 date=1207703957
wow, this is crazy. Also, by the way, after seeing this, my weird and twisted mind came up with something.
Now, picture this, you are a man, you go and store your sperm somewhere, get a sex change, come back, and use your own sperm to become pregnant. Have that child, and you have a real mini you!
This is assuming you can become pregnant after a male-female sex change, which as far as I know, you can't. Nonetheless, would this be considered incest?
I don't think so. Assuming that an individual's body produces both egg and sperm cells, (Which would not be the case in the situation you describe, from my understanding) it still doesn't seem possible. The genetic defects present in children whose parents are as genetically different as cousins can sometimes be crippling- I can't imagine the odds of that child developing into a healthy adult.
Out of my own curiosity, I went and did some research on cloning, and it's an entirely different process. A single cell is "programmed" to develop into an entire organism- all of your cells contain all of your DNA, which makes this possible. So there are no forms of cloning that are the result of contact between two genetically identical sex cells- possibly, fertilization can't even happen under that circumstance.
I don't think incest is the word. Something close, though.
Stupid game ideas
HOCKEY STICK PHONE MAGNIFYING GLASS
Daniel Roberts comes home from his job at the drug store to find everyone in his apartment complex has disappeared. What's more, the other people he runs into on a daily basis don't seem to have noticed the change, or think that a nearly-empty building in bustling New York is strange at all. But it doesn't stop there. More and more people and objects disappear from his life every time he wakes up. And one night, he has a mysterious dream where he receives a phone-call, prompting him to take on a series of tasks in the dark, parallel world he never knew existed around him.
Gameplay- I see it as a survival horror. You have to fight with the objects you find in areas around you- a hockey stick would make an ideal weapon. You would only communicate with the mysterious third party, (the only one who also seems to be aware of the changes) by phone. During daytime, gameplay is a lot like a point-and-click adventure game where talking to people, finding clues with various tools, and solving puzzles is the way to progress through the game. During nighttime, you play through Daniel's dreams- where he walks through a dark, shady version of the city, battling strange creatures as he goes along.
The ending, and the reason people were disappearing? Daniel's dreams were allowing him to see into the dark world of the shadow people, where individuals and objects were being dragged into from the real world. (The shadow people's attempts to overtake the world of light) He is one of the rare few that can traverse both of these planes, and is the only hope to return balance to the universe. (gosh, I've never heard that before)
The premise is sort of clich'e, but imagine gameplay akin to a strange mix between Resident evil, Silent hill and The Longest Journey.

Pregnant Man
At first I thought this was about the hoax from China, but it appears I was thinking about something different.
I don't have anything against it. It may be socially awkward, but a lot of things are that should receive acceptance anyway.
A little biological fact- all human babies start out female in the womb, with female organs. Whether or not male reproductive organs surface later, and the female organs stop developing, is of course dependent on the Y and X chromosomes and various hormones present. Sometimes one or two of those factors can be altered, usually by substances consumed by the mother. What gender you are, physically, isn't as much of a black and white thing as people often think it is.
This, as Brandonabley and NoblemanNick pointed out, isn't really a case of a "man", biologically speaking, being pregnant anywho- since the individual in question was born a female.
Socially awkward, yes. Morally wrong or disgusting, no. These are all value judgments, however, and can not be proved by science in either direction.
Here comes some icky biological genital talk, so kiddies better think twice about reading.
...Although I can think of a situation where a "male pregnancy" would be possible. The female organs every baby starts off with, that I mentioned? Some children can be born, externally, looking like one gender and have sexual organs of the other. (Such as testes or ovaries, with the external features being only superficial). Or, they can have both where one simply didn't develop enough to cause any external physical changes, but is otherwise capable of preforming it's function. Although the possibility seems rather slim, I can imagine that an individual could be born with functioning, male external organs and have a developed womb on the inside with no external, female sex characteristics. Whether or not that organ in question would be able to do anything depends a lot on hormones, and that's tricky business.
Basically, your options aren't just male/female/hermaphrodite. There's in betweens. A lot of people probably aren't one "definite gender" and don't even know it.
I'm no doctor, but these are things professionals and textbooks have told me. I admit I take the above scenario as a slightly altered example from a medical TV show, however, so that should warn you as to how credible I am in this situation. I'm just trying to shed some useful information on the topic, as well as my own musings. Believe me at your own risk.

Release Something! Day II [Discussion]
Unfortunately the thread was locked before I was able to get the links to the resources I posted- I've been told something is up with the site, so I'll have to wait until they'll be available.
No real damage done, though, I don't see people lining up to get them. XD.

your game features
1. A low-tech cooking system that I may turn into a smithing system.
2. Regenerating resources such as well water, milk from livestock and chicken eggs.
3. Lots of original art and creative uses for it. Hopefully.
That's about it.

Release Something! Day II [Release Thread]
I can't quite produce a demo yet- the first event sequence of the game is almost done, but can't be effectively played yet until I finish some of the art used when talking to characters. However, I've got some of the things I've made to share with you.
I've submitted my resources to the site, (They're currently pending- only one I'm worried about getting through, it's got two custom chickens and a ripped dog. Can I do that?) I'll update the links to them once they're up. They're mostly ripped material, I'm afraid. All my custom stuff is still in progress.
Here's some never-before seen screenshots of the project itself in progress;
Using Beach chipset, submitted to site
Using forest chipset, submitted to site
Using town chipset, not submitted to site due to previously existing resources. (All mine is is an extremely specified version of what's already available)

New Painting
Mnn, it definitely has charm, and the color balance is great. But it needs more depth of field! Unless you were looking for that kind of style.
I like it.

Game Names?

Wreathe sounds like a cool name though, very memorable. ;D
I do like this name as i am sure it is off stargate. I was thinjing about using it in my game for some type of creature. Sorry for going off topic. ;D
Wait... stargate? You mean the wraith?
XD. I'm afraid wreathes are not nearly as threatening. But yes, the name did have a certain charm to it. I'm glad you think so as well. (Eheh, and now I also must apologize for going off topic. What a tangled web we weave!)
