Your Most Disappointing Game?

Dragon Ages: Origins
I expected it to be so fantastic, that it couldn't satisfy me in the end. It's a good game, and the world is yet again great (as expected of bioware), the battle and character advancment is fine, and all in all it is a very polished RPG from a technical point of view, but it just couldn't get me into the "ooh...aah...what comes next?" mood, like mass effect 1-2, jade empire or KOTOR. The story was devoid of any suprising elements, the only thing making the game serious and dark,is that there is a barrel of blood in every enemy, that happens to spill on your characters, even the ones which happen to stand afar from the fight. Oh and every decision you make is "grey". That's actually well done...but that alone won't make a dark fantasy. The characters, the world, the sidequests, the music, and the origin stories are good, but there is something missing. Something what would bring these puzzle pieces together and make them into a part of a great whole...
Okay, I'm sure everybody gets the pont, so Ill stop with the poetic speech.

Mass Effect 2

Mass effect 2 is a fantastic game. It's not much of an RPG and that's a shame, but I really couldn't care less about that if the game is THIS good.
I agree that details play a main role in ME2's awesomeness...they make you feel part of the game's world, not only someone who is watching space opera. Bioware is a master of this, no wonder their games are so popular, although Dragon Age was a big disappointment for me, but that's off-topic.
My favourite character was (in both episodes) Tali and it was nice to see that she finally got a romance option. I also liked the rest of the crew, they were all very good characters. Okay, I hated Jack from the moment I heard of her (and that was way before the game's release) but not because she was an unintresting character.
All in all, if ME2 won't be good enough for game of the year, then this will be the YEAR OF LEGENDS(c).

Cast Aside

Oh, and, though I doubt it's of any real importance as RM XP probably uses unicode, but my system locale (for non-unicode programs) is hungarian. Caused a problem with one game some time ago and it took me a week to figure out that the game prefers (meaning it crashes on anything else) an english locale, even though it was an international release...It caused the weirdest errors...
I would rather not change my locale, as it sometimes causes strange...things, but if you think it's worth try, then I will give it a go.

Cast Aside

I got to the end of these two (and half) episodes, and it was great, so I'm looking forward to episode 3.

I also tried to find out more about the bug, so:
It mainly occured in the first fight, where I went on a button mashing rampage because I wasn't used to the system yet. (Not that I was frustrated, but rather I was yet to familiarize myself with the controls.) It didn't really hapen later on. Not at all in the second fight, (i tried that fight 3 times) and randomly later on. I'm more or less convinced that it's tied to the confirm button somehow, and not any specific command, as i once pressed enter while the cursor was on the ground and had no character selected, and the game still crashed.

And I succeeded in reproducing the error message I mentioned earlyer. It also occured once, when I selected exit from the Title menu, so it might be something undirectly related to my problem, but hopefully you can figure something out of it...
Here is a picture of the message:

Cast Aside

Very nice game, I enjoy it very much, however I seem to have a reoccuring problem...
During battle sometimes when I press enter, especially when several times in quick succession, the game freezes. Not completely, as I can still hear the "button sounds" but the image doesn't change at all.
I'm puzzled as to what could cause this problem...
I have RTP (for RMXP), and installed the font
My drivers are up to date,
I'm playing on Win7 64, but tried the compatibility options to no avail...not like i should need them.
Never had any problems with any other RMXP games.
I got an error message once, (something about scripts) but couldn't read it, other times, I could simply use f12 to reload my game.

Don't know what else I could write, no one else seems to have this problem, so it's probably my fault somehow, but I have no idea what should I do about it.

On Story Structure

This was a nice, basic lecture on the importancy of story. You could do one on gameplay too if you have time. Though I'm not sure if anyone would need it 'sides me. (I'm a story person :D)

Oh and, in most Elder Scrolls episodes, you are simply forced into saving the world, and don't have much choice. The main character has absolutely no personality, so the player decides whether the the hero would like to save the world or just wander around and do side quests endlessly. And the game still does fine in the story department because of the detailed world and the entertaining side quests. Or at least III and IV does.
It's probably not exactly the example you were looking for, but I think this is as close as it gets to an unintrested lead character.

T Review

I could come up some counter arguments, and then you would do the same, and so on and so on...
Let's just stop this pointless debate, shall we? Debating for debate's sake is a great thing, but things are getting out of hand here...You make some good points and I think I made some too, so let's just heed Solitayre's advice and agree to disagree. If you really wish to argue, we should at least do it through PMs, if at all...

"However, because he has worked to put in some gameplay elements, I don't think they can be simply ignored in a review..."

You are probably right, but if we look upon this as an "interactive show/story/whatever" then this amount of gameplay is all right, (even visual novels have some gameplay in them sometimes...) while if we expect an RPG, then it's waaay not enough. But you have a point there and I will take it into consideration in the future. I also have no right to change a game's genre, but I still think that the label is wrong and this is an interactive story...in which case 4.5 is a fair score.

T Review

No, you misunderstand.
First, I did not rate the gameplay high, I did not rate it at all. I decided to treat this game for what it is, an "Interactive show" with a misplaced label.
My justification is not that they rated it low, but that every review so far took the issue of gameplay heavily into account, and that is the main reason for it's scores so far. I decided that while it's certainly is an issue, It's also clear, that gameplay is absolutely not the focus of the game, and that this is not an RPG. It might be labeled as such, and that will cause misunderstandings, but it's not exactly "fair and just" to get two or at least one star less for something like a wrong tag.
Again, I know it's debatable, and I understand if anyone disagrees with my decision, but this seemed fair and just to me, and the fact that others before me decided to be less then lenient in this matter only strenghened my decision to look upon this game from a different point of view.

Okay, it's lame to triple post, but let me jus apologize for the spelling and grammar mistakes...it's a bit late around this part of the globe, so my engrish is even worse then usually.
