There are a few behemot kings on the east side of that great plain. After a little bit of leveling up, you can beat them, if you attack from behind (it will be realtively easy to catch them from behind). You will need haste for this battle, as well as buffs and debuffs, but it well worths it, as you get 4k cp. There are 2 BKs and heading north a bit more, you will bump into some blue armadillos, which give you 1980 CP and there are 3 single ones you can easily attack from behind. Going up and down on this line will net a good amount of CP very quickly (the party needs to be rather offensive...I used Lightning, Shaz and Vanille). The mines in the north are even better though, as the enemies aren't too strong, so after you get stronger, and still feel the need to gain CPs, just follow the yellow arrow to the mines.
I too think, that the game is great, even this 11. chapter, though I really hate it when "freedom" equals to boring quests and grinding, but for once, I enjoy the battles, even though I've been doing nothing but battles for about 6-8 hours now...

I suppose, if you're talking about the main narrative. It's not that complex, no. Entertaining, yeah. I wouldn't call it "not great", though. It's not the best, but come on, don't be cynical, it's pretty good!
I agree, I think it's good too. Not exceptional, but good.

However, I stand by my statement regarding the 'complexity' if we're talking about the sheer amount of content the setting has. There IS a lot.
There is a lot of content, but it's hm...I think it's mostly the names.
SPOILER:
fal'Cie: Angels
Pulse fal'Cie: Demons
l'Cie: Prophets
Cocoon: Earth, or a Cocoon literally
Pulse: Hell (it even says so in the description) or maybe Heaven/The Great Unknown
All the other stuff has a rather simple "IRL" match.
This is a bit forced and I'm not too far in the game, but I think these would be the conventional names for them.
END OF SPOILER
I agree though that it's a bit much to take in at first...
It's looks like somewhat standard anime stuff though. The characters too, sometimes, but it's true that they are very well written.
All in all, I still find the game great. (Although the damn battle rating system seem overly random to me, as well as the stuff I receive at the end...I mean, even if I get 20k points, sometimes, I get nothing, and if I'm super slow and get 2 stars, I receive rare drops just as often as with five stars. Or at least it seems like that to me.)

...and it's with the trailer: Why oh why did they use Leona Lewis for the music, of all the people on earth, they had to pick her -.-
Thankfully, I am yet to hear any of her "own" songs ingame. I'm not sure if she sings anything else in the game, but if she didn't write it, that's usually good, since apart from her ultimately generic style, she is a good singer.
Also, I like this game so far. I don't really understand what's people's problem with the story. Don't be intimidated from the plethora of new names, (most FFs try that anyway) they are all explained rather soon in the datalog anyway, ( upt to five times, depending on their importance...) and even if you just play the game, there will be an explanation later on. Apart from that, I can't exactly say that the story is too complicated so far. I mean, there are quite a few games here on RMN that have a more complex story. So I think the problem is with the new words, which threw me off-balance too. Also, the main quest is revealed around the begining of the third chapter. There are a lot of white bits, but I like that in a story.
And one more thing: the stuff FFXIII does, the few battles then cutscene: that's exactly what I was talking about in Salerius's article's comments. There is the obvious lienarity, which pissed off quite a few fans, but I think they did quite a good work with keeping the player connected.

This wasn't forced AT ALL. Especially the last bit, the monologue about Lightning doing her thing? Now I'm sure Leona Lewis likes FF XIII as much as I like her nauseatingly cheesy songs in it. I mean, the japanese theme song was a bit annoying, but this? Ugh! And I probably won't be able to chose between the two since adding the damn japanese audio to the blu-ray was too much of a hassle it seems...
And why is it always an Xbox360 controller? It's just not fair! :D

Ah, I see, thanks. SE seems to be a little weak when it comes to fast reactions to potential PR disasters. They've had such issues before, but never with the teasers and such...those were very professional.
Well nevermind, only a few days away now...

I'm not one to watch the first 40minutes of a game that comes out in just a weeks time. Kinda ruins it really.
Well...the games is 60 hours long if I remember correctly, so what's 40 minutes (of course, the first steps are very important, but nevertheless, you usually won't fing out anything too important in a FF's first hour)? I only watched the first 10 minutes by the way, because I was rather interested in the paradigm shift battle system (and there is a tutorial for that in there...). It's interesting, but...well let's hope it gets even more interesting later on.

these are screenshots from a PC running it
PC running Xbox360? I never knew there was an Xbox360 emulator...and I thought it was nigh impossible to make any X360 game run at this speed on a PC, especially with an emulator in it's early development and with little optimalization. It's not like I don't beleive you, but where did you hear this?
Off:
(delete this if it's venturing too deep into the dark side...sorry!)
By the way, I'm amazed yet again. It's not even out and there is alredy a supposedly working release of the game. As far as I know, it was didn't work after all and so it was nuked. It seems it's becoming harder and harder for the people of the "scene" to hack every game before release. I wonder though if this is truly because the DRM, or something else...

The voice acting is fine indeed, but...for some reason, it seems...less visually stunning to me than what I expected. Maybe it's the low resolution, but I'm pretty sure, that the pink haired girl's (Vanille was her name I think) armband actually looked rather...boxy. Okay, maybe I'm a bit too critical...
Still, I hope the PS3 version really is better looking...

Mass Effect 2
And if you want to cheat a bit, then you can read what you must do to get a "perfect" ending:

Mass Effect 2 wiki is a very imperessive database and has a very accurate game guide of both ME 1 and 2. Far better then the "official prima guidebook" which simply forgets to tell you how to keep your team alive.

Your Most Disappointing Game?
Dragon Ages: Origins
I expected it to be so fantastic, that it couldn't satisfy me in the end. It's a good game, and the world is yet again great (as expected of bioware), the battle and character advancment is fine, and all in all it is a very polished RPG from a technical point of view, but it just couldn't get me into the "ooh...aah...what comes next?" mood, like mass effect 1-2, jade empire or KOTOR. The story was devoid of any suprising elements, the only thing making the game serious and dark,is that there is a barrel of blood in every enemy, that happens to spill on your characters, even the ones which happen to stand afar from the fight. Oh and every decision you make is "grey". That's actually well done...but that alone won't make a dark fantasy. The characters, the world, the sidequests, the music, and the origin stories are good, but there is something missing. Something what would bring these puzzle pieces together and make them into a part of a great whole...
Okay, I'm sure everybody gets the pont, so Ill stop with the poetic speech.

Mass Effect 2
Mass effect 2 is a fantastic game. It's not much of an RPG and that's a shame, but I really couldn't care less about that if the game is THIS good.
I agree that details play a main role in ME2's awesomeness...they make you feel part of the game's world, not only someone who is watching space opera. Bioware is a master of this, no wonder their games are so popular, although Dragon Age was a big disappointment for me, but that's off-topic.
My favourite character was (in both episodes) Tali and it was nice to see that she finally got a romance option. I also liked the rest of the crew, they were all very good characters. Okay, I hated Jack from the moment I heard of her (and that was way before the game's release) but not because she was an unintresting character.
All in all, if ME2 won't be good enough for game of the year, then this will be the YEAR OF LEGENDS(c).
