RPG Maker MV announced for PC and MAC

That's a fair point. I remember hearing once that people are more likely to buy products that are made in they're own country. Really, all it's overall safer for them to cater to their domestic audience then for the international. That being said, there is less of a chance of that happening in my mind, mostly because they seem to be releasing the english and japanese versions fairly close, if not at the same time.

Looks nice, although the 48x48 thing was just theory I had. It's entirely possible that it's not that big. But it would be cool if it was.

Also, everything that was listed was something new from Ace. Why the hell would they announce the same mapping as Ace along with all this new stuff? No. I think they are going back to the XP way and when they say that it's automatically three layers, they mean that it is just the default layers for a map, which sounds more to em that there might be an option to modify how many layers a map has.

I don't get why everyone is saying that the tiles are trash, they look pretty good to me.

RPG Maker MV announced for PC and MAC

Ah. Quite interesting.

It would seem that the sprites are larger this time around, maybe 48x48 this time.

So that faceset I was talking about in the iphone example seems to indeed be part of the new RTP.

I was completely off on the characters in the sideview battles, so I guess I lose my clairvoyance skill.

But I partially regain it with being right about the front view showcasing new RTP battlers.

The new tiles look like buffed up versions of Ace's, they look pretty rad.

Yanfly confirmed for scripting!?!?!?!? *explodes from hype*

RPG Maker MV announced for PC and MAC

I think what they mean by auto three layers is that there will be three layers of the map itself by default. In Ace there is really only two, A, then B, with events acting as a sort of 3 but not really. So, I'm thinking that it will going something like the XP style of mapping, which is cool, but the way that they say that it's automatically like that makes me think that you may be able to add additional layers to the map if you want to.

RPG Maker MV announced for PC and MAC

Could just be for something else in the magazine, could be something about the scripting language, or about how much better the engine is. There really isn't a way of telling right now.

I'm personally hoping for a lite version. I think it would be cool to make a really short game before you move on to actually buying the engine.

RPG Maker MV announced for PC and MAC

I normally don't put much hope in the characters that are show in the logo of the engine. There isn't a great track record of them actually showing up in the engine itself. But, yeah. They do look similar now that you mention it...

A few interesting things to note in the screenshots after closer inspection.

1. In the bottom left we can see what appears to be the built in sideview battles with what appears to be (taking these names from Division Heaven's list of the rtp characters) Ralph, Cid, Ulrika or Galahad, and Elicia in the two of them.

2. In the same section we can see an example of the front-view system that we are all familiar with, but the battlers in there appear to be new ones that we haven't seen in the RTP before. This could indicate more additions to the rtp.

3. Above that screenshot we get our fist look at the new database, which looks fairly similar to Ace's, but we can clearly get a look of some kind of new grey area on the left side. This appears to be the new tabs section since the one from Ace is seemingly missing from the screenshot. There also appears to be new areas to to this tab, which appears to be the System tab from Ace.

4. In the top right we can see the example of a game on an iphone, or similar mobile device. The one thing that stands out here, besides the aforementioned mobile device, is that the face in the text box of the game appears to be some kind new generated face set, or simply a new example of the MV RTP drawing style.

There are a few showings of the mapping, but for the most part it doesn't seem like they gives us anything especially interesting.
