I saw this thread after I rolled a huge spliff, so I'm compelled to say that I dabble in drugs and alcohol just as much as the next guy. Moderation is key with everything.

I'm going to take the script for The Wizard, wipe my ass with it and have it starring Frankie Muniz and see where that gets me as far as remakes of old movies go.
I have the strong feeling that you'd sell that to Hollywood before I ever sold any of my original screenplays.
I think it'd depend on how much I wiped my ass with the original script. It has to be astronomically shitty for it to succeed.
