It looks really cool! :O This approach does make it look more authentic (as opposed to copy-pasting the sprites). If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take you?

There's Kan Gao, who works in Freebird Games.
According to this interview, Toby Fox used to mess around in RPG Maker 2000 but he never released anything, so I'm not sure if that counts.
Those are the only developers who I can think of who haven't been mentioned. :/

The layout is simple and intuitive, and you've got a good base for an alpha. Quick fixes to make this title screen better: I'd recommend using a stone texture with a higher resolution, and to reduce the opacity of the yellow over the lamp as it takes away from the sprite. If you REALLY want to go the extra mile, an optional addition for maybe the final build is to have a subtle scrolling background instead of black.

The portrait and sprite look wonderful! :D I like the way you've done the folds and patterns on her clothes, but a tip for advice is that perhaps you could make the colors of her hair in the portrait a bit bolder. Good job!

Audio is imbalanced? Example: when you knock on a door and then knock on another, one of them is quieter / louder than the other even though they're the same distance from Garry. To keep it consistent, it should be at the same volume.
When Garry says a door is locked, the sfx for knocking plays instead of an sfx for attempting to budge a closed door.
Maps have a lot of empty space, which should be avoided in most cases. Here's some good advice on making maps.
Finally, you could change the default RPGMaker sound effects. Make sure to credit people where due.Freesound.org is somewhere to start.

After playing the demo, I would recommend you guys to change the font. Some words I had to guess by the context, some I still didn't get. It is really hard to read and since the game is dialogue heavy, it will do you no good. You want people to want to read.
Such font is good for headings though, where you don't have a lot of text and guessing what the word suppose to be isn't much of a workout.
