Hey RMN- I made a video! Feel free to check it out if you like (as your opinion is the only one I care about). Let me know what you think!
Quick and dirty map actions
Hey folks,
It's been ages since I've fooled around with an RM, so forgive my lack of knowledge.
I need to make a quick "jumping" event and "attacking" event to take place on the map, preferably in VX Ace (because I want an excuse to buy it). I don't want anyone to do it for me, I just need to know that it's possible (in Ace) and then I'll figure it out on my own (hopefully).
Can you assign key presses to activate commands in RM makers?
Thanks in advance!

Literature and Games?
Greetings, game theorists!
Question for the masses: what do you think of the link between literature and games?
I'm writing my final paper for college (yes!) on this subject for an independent study, and wanted to get the RMN community's opinions, thoughts, and theories.
Basically, I see literature as a necessary step in the development of the Adventure and RPG genres, as both rely or have relied quite heavily on the written word for dialogue, narration, and advancement of plot. But can we really critically think about a game the same way we examine a book? I think some similar thought processes take place in how we approach the work, but I believe that the inclusion of game mechanics add that extra bit of 'magic' that literature cannot achieve on its own. And while game mechanics usually focus on the exact opposite of literature (numbers, clicking a button to continue reading, etc.) they still create a different experience.
This isn't about if games are art or not, it's about the relationship between literature and games. If you have any thoughts, examples, or input, then please feel free to share! I would very much enjoy discussing the topic (it's also helping me to flesh out my main ideas by having people that understand read my thoughts).

I found an (actually free) Royalty free music site with some decent tunes.
Hey everyone, I found a site with some decent production music. Some of it kind of reminds of the PS1 era of RPG's, for reasons I can't explain. I'm using one or two of the songs for a commercial I'm working on, and I just thought I'd share it with you all.
At the top of the page are tabs for even more music.

I think I posted this in the right section- my apologies if I didn't.
Enjoy!

I won a video contest and now I'm headed to E3 next week!
I'm stoked about sharing this with you all.
So a while back the Video Game Voter's Network began a search for the "E3 Insider". It was a video competition where candidate's created a YouTube video describing their talents and passion about games. I managed to win the contest and next week I'm going E3 to interview some game companies. =D
I just wanted to share the video I made with you all. Hope you enjoy!

Understanding Character sizes (while walking) in XP and VX
For the purpose of this topic, let's assume that I know nothing and am just starting to understand the basics of RM. And let's just assume that for all other purposes too.
So I downloaded One Night, the horror game made with VX, and I noticed that the main character's walking sprite is quite large. I compared the file graphic with that of the RTP for VX, and it dwarfs them! It looked more like the size of characters in XP
I'm just curious as to how this works. I'm sure this is an incredibly n00bish thing to ask, but it's these little tweaks and touches that make RM's so appealing to me.
Enjoying One Night as well- I'll probably write a review for it.

An examination of combining videos and gaming
Hey all,
Long time reader, rare- if ever poster. I'm getting that itch to try and make a game again, but this time I want to try something possibly different.
To explain, filming and videos are my first love. I produce commercials and videos for companies using my own equipment and it pays (some) of the bills.
I would really like to explore the idea of utilizing the ability to play video clips inside of RM programs. I'm not asking for help or anything like that, I would just like to get a discussion on some concepts going.
Questions and Concepts for you to possibly answer or entertain:
1. Q: Have you played a game that used original cut scenes? (original meaning actually original, not just rehashed clips of some other anime/game/movie).
2. Q: What's your opinion on using real people as graphics in a video game? (personally I've never seen it done well, but if there is a game that does then I would love a link).
3. Concept: I want to take some time and experiment with what I can put together using various video clip formats and sizes. But here's an idea I had for playing videos that are either too large or just don't deserve to be crushed and squished and uglified to fit in-game.
What if the videos were downloaded separately, like in different folders, and to unlock the video scenes, passwords would be required.
For example, let's say a new character is a about to be introduced (or something). The game, could give the player a password to write down along with the option to SAVE. The player can save, go to the folder, type in the password, and then watch the video and go back to playing.
Think this is too much for to ask of the player? These are just some whimsical notions, feel free to comment, support or bash as appropriate.
Thanks!

Is a FF Legend 3 battle system possible with RM2k3?
Hey everyone,
I found my old copy of Final Fantasy 3 Legend for the gameboy, and now I want to visit my nostalgic past by tweaking around with the rm2k3 battle system to sort of mimic this.
Here's a picture of the battle system.

As you can see, the characters are facing top of the screen (their backs are to you) and the monsters face toward the screen, like monsters in rmxp or the ancient Dragon Quest/warriors.
Now logically, I could use rmxp and make the battle sprites just the "walking up" sprites of the characters, but I'd love to see them step upward and backward without too much difficulty.
Does anyone know of any RM games that do this? And again, just curious if it IS doable- I'm not asking anyone to do it for me, I'd just like someone to give me the okay before I spend too much time into it ; p

So which RPG Maker versions are legal?
Hey everyone,
It's been too long since I've been on the site (my PC is fixed once again), and I want to get started from scratch on a project, but I want to go about it in a legal way. I don't plan on selling any games, but I just feel bad that I know I've downloaded every version of their games at least once without paying.
I've tried going to their main website, but it seems to be not working atm.
And if this has been asked before (and I'm sure it has) a link would be superb. Any response is appreciated.
Thanks!
