I'm an artist first and foremost, and long time video game and RPG fan. Been tooling around with RPG maker for some time and I'm finally getting down to business and working on a serious project. I've got everything planned out and now I'm just trying to punch out the work.

Eesh, this is some pretty slick stuff, any idea when a demo'll be released?
Not a bad idea, I have just about enough of the artwork done to put together a demo, I'll get on that.

Yeah I try to make my maps a blend between flow and anti-flow, the nice thing about my town maps is I get to have buildings that consist of an entire image and offset the rest of it. It's hard in a graveyard though, I do want to add some small crypts that may offset it a bit though.

I suggest outlining the text, but that's a pretty nice ITEM GEM scroll!
Thanks amigo, I agree the outlined text would look better, I'm sure I can manage something with a message script, because that's actually a windowless text box in front of a picture

Hot damn.
Do you own anything that's not black, white or tan?
It is so hard for me to find anything o_O

A messy desktop is good sign of a hard worker.
I'm impressed you do what you do with only a single monitor.
Also, we now know tobe careful whento not break in else we might get a throwing knife lodged someplace we don't want it.
I love pointy stabby bits :P

ps: is that computer paper? because i use computer paper when i draw and nobody else does. they always use sketchbooks and i'm like, not cool enough for a sketchbook.
I used to use computer paper, but years ago I switched to card stock, it holds the marker much better and is just so much tougher, I highly reccomend it.

If you have a little more patience, you can use the same RTP sprites for NPCs and that, but give them a "thick" cartoonish black outline (that would make them less contrastant with your great tiles too). That alone, and maybe a contrast retouch I think, would pimp them a little :P.
Not a bad idea, may give that a try. Was also going to give all the "Villagers" pallet swaps so they would match each village. It'd be nice if I could find a decent pixel artist to collaborate with me but I'm not counting on it, so I definitely have a plan B

Feel free to stop making us jealous by teasing us with images and keep working on your game so we can play it :P
I love the skulls. One of them has to be Murray... right?
Lol Sorry amigo, I'm posting pics as soon as I draw new elements, in this one I've added the second coffin house variant, some bits o' bones and a streetlight that'll probably have a fading in and out "candle light" effect :P
Need Help With Small Script Bug
author=GreatRedSpirit

yeah it's def hard to have really high resolution images/backgrounds with pixels. i think if you can find someone talented enough it isn't impossible to find a pixel artist who can match the art as close as possible. lotta talent out dere.
i suggest places like pixeljoint and various pixel artist hangouts.
Will do, jeez now I get to be the guy pestering an artist to do work for me o_O
