Astyanax: Wrath Steel

I haven't played nearly enough of this game to review it but, from what I've played, it is a fairly poor/average game.
The storyline is terrible from the get-go. How the introduction is organised is confusing and doesn't flow, at all. The game could start from the very point where the main character is teleported to his new world and it wouldn't make any difference because none of the preceeding scenes made any sense. If the preceeding scenes are required then, at the least, the bit about "I am Astyanax, I go to this school blah blah" should be removed because it just isn't needed. The developer could just have him wake up from the dream, go to school and then get teleported away.
The dialogue is just as bad. There isn't any reason to have the main character talk to the player at the start, for instance: Just get on with the story-critical scenes. There is also no need to use things like *a voice comes from the dark* when the screen is blacked-out and *everything fades* when the screen fades out; I can see that these things are happening, I do not need to be told them. The number of spelling and grammar errors is just immense and this makes the dialogue even more laughable.
The battle system would be fairly entertaining if it wasn't glitched. For instance, in the first fight your allies will damage each other if they walk into each other and will also damage you. Of course, you can't damage them back because they are your allies, but this makes it hard to tell who is an enemy and who is not when the enemies are not made clear by the preceeding scene. This is a massive glitch and it needs to be fixed.
The graphics are nice (outside of cutscenes - in cutscenes they are terrible) and I appreciate that, but this game isn't anything special: Just another RPGMaker game that fails to implement its ABS.
We both agree that the storyline is terrible but remember that most of the dialogue and scenes come from a NES game =P they were even worse and more confusing then. It all started with me trying to transform pictures or other game maps into Rpgxp maps and keep on building a game, due to the nature of the maps (and the fact that each one weights around 20-40 mb) im not able to keep a steady and non linear flow in the game.
About the glitch; you may be playing an old version of the game, in the newest version i remember fixing that glitch (caused by the wizard fireball splash damage) and several grammar/spelling errors, everything i could Proofread trough google xD english is not my first language neither, anyways i have never seen a game that correcly applies its ABS or using half of its capabilities so i dont know what you really mean when this game "fails" with the script. Thanks for the review nonetheless =)
post=190587I HATE YOU!Man you sure pwned him.
This game is so much fun.
Anyway I also played a bit of this game awhile back. It was very boring and the graphics are actually quite small compared to the source game (known as Ragnarok Online) idk it's just weird having everything zoomed out. I remember Diablo 2 being fortunate to keep the action centered. I couldn't really play beyond the first gameplay segments.
Boring? O_O well i tried my best, there are puzzles, enemies to kill , allies to help, balanced stats and skills (so its challenging but not impossible to beat the demo (most of the games here are ridiculously easy or too hard)) destroyable objects, a maze, tons of magic with different effects you can try and a cheesy, bad written storyline that you can laugh to, if that isnt fun enough you should try sky-diving =P.
The graphics were resized because of the maps, instead of 120Mb they weight around 20-40 zoomed out xD also modified the character size due to the battlesystem (and to blur them a little with the maps), it would be very annoying to see arrows and magic coming out from nowhere as the Rpgmkxp has a fixed tile size system, if i make maps and enemies to big (as the original source) you wouldnt be able to evade their attacks as good as watching them from a distance, you would just see your character bouncing around mindlessly.
Bugs!
