How did you get started in RM ?

So, a couple of years ago, I found an English Version of RM2k on some website.
I downloaded it, and to my surprise, it was one of the most intuitive game making programs ever imo.
I made my first game on it.
Some crappy game with ripped resources and mismatched music, BUT it was a start.

Awhile later, when RMXP came out, I downloaded it after hearing it's mode 7 like capability's (via scripting).
While it had a higher learning curve, it offered more options for game design.

Real Time Narration in Video Games

So, ever since the show "24" ended, I have always thought it would be a cool concept to have a video game in complete Real Time (not a RTS game).

So awhile later, I thought of this game concept called "One Day" where the main character has only 24 hours to find clues to someone trying to bomb a major city.

But, not to talk about my game, it would be cool if more action-adventure games followed a Real-Time style of Narration.

Has anyone tried to do this in a RM game ?

Compression Techniques in Rpg Maker games.

Anyone developing Rpg Maker games should check this out.
If for whatever reason, you feel the file size of your game is too big, there are
some techniques you can use to compress it.

1.Pictures/Tiles
By default, always convert these to JPG file formats.
Takes half the space of a PNG picture, but loss of detail is not noticeable.

If you really want serious compression, try converting the file to uncommon formats such as 256-color bmp, and converting it back to jpg.
This reduces the data to a fourth of its original size.

2.Sound effects

Use MP3 for everything. For sound effects, .wav and mp3 sound very similar, yet mp3 has a lower data footprint.

So, that being said, if for some reason you want to aim for the lowest file size possible, you may want to try these methods.

Why are there not many Rpg Maker games with FMV's ?

A couple of years ago, ever since I found out how to upload .Avi files to Rm2k (I use XP now) I wondered why must RM developers didnt utilize the FMV feature ?

Was it because of cost/time to make them.
That the ingame graphics would look inferior ?
