Mapping Contest #1

SGCN's won't run for me. =/
Can you describe what happens when you try to run it? Screencaps would help too. You can try running the RPG_RTold.exe but it'll run without the bells and whistles.
RPG 20XX Engine
Sounds good, I'll reproduce and then attempt to remove this later. I'm a little busy this week, but only a little. All the bug status are listed in the usual place.
This was a response from WolfCoder a week ago. The most recent email I got makes no mention of the current progress.
You can always check out the current changelog: https://subversion.assembla.com/svn/rm20xx/rpgm20xx/web/20xx-changelog.txt
and the latest bugs: https://subversion.assembla.com/svn/rm20xx/rpgm20xx/web/20xx-bug-list.txt
As for testing, I've actually been working on a small demo CBS which is nearly done.
RPG 20XX Engine
Last I heard from WolfCoder was 2 days ago. I was discussing some errors people were having with my mapping contest entry.

SGCN: The music really fit the theme, and the layout was nicely varied. I played with the 2k3 exe, because the 20XX one acted oddly on my computer--very slow, and strange textboxes kept popping up. Some had single digit-numbers, others were empty. Dunno why, though...
Hey thanks for playing my map :) The 20XX engine is still in beta but the game seems to work fine on my end. Mind sharing what some of the error messages say so I can pass it on to WolfCoder?

@Chana: Hmm that's strange. Is there a file called D3DX9_43.dll in the project folder? You may need to download the latest version of WolfCoder's 20XX engine here: http://rpgmaker.net/games/2664/
Copy the contents into the project directory and overwrite any old files and see if it works. You will want to use the exe named "wcrpg2kxe.wide.exe". The latest version that was released not too long ago allows you to change the video size with ALT + 1-4

@Jude: Ah so you wanted no music at all? Well I'm glad that there was music there.
@tpsmall: Ah I see. I'm unfamiliar with VX mapping. Maybe it's possible by using the shift key?

Jude:
Dat tileswap effect. You've definitely captured that oldschool feel, but I felt the map needed some NPC's. Is the music supposed to cut off when you ride on the raft? Shoutouts for original graphics.
tpasmall:
I wonder why you didn't make more use of the cliff edge tiles? There are some places you have them, but for most of your cliffs lack them. Liked the water sound effects.
Melkino:
Swag. This map is brimming with atmosphere. Having the context of the cursed town along with the interaction with the NPC's made this map pretty awesome. Parallax mapping seems like a lot of work, I don't think I'd have the patience for it.
Stedar:
I liked the little things you've added to enhance an already solid map: flying birds, animated clothes in the wind, breaking pots, guards moving their heads left and right and the ...flies? I did find a bug with the staircase near the water pipes. If you attempt to go up that staircase you move in the wrong direction.
IKEH4X0r1337:
Yikes, Ereathlahem and Emulacrealiym are a mouthful to say. I think the water would look better without the black outline. From what I gather from your intro, you're going for that third world feel, but I think in my opinion your map is a little too large and empty in some areas.
Lotus Games:
Oh wow at this map. Love the animated trees. Props for taking the effort to put in some story and cutscenes. The intro is a little slow for my tastes, but once I was in control it was all good. There is a lot of interactivity, most objects in the map can be examined and there is even a
small minigame. Damn you've used a lot of music! I thought that Jenova
dubstep mix was an interesting choice :P
Kazesui:
Nice to see DYNRPG in action. Love the particle effects and how the music gets louder/weaker the closer you are. I wandered west past some rock and I think I ended up somewhere I wasn't supposed to!

Found a map wrapping bug.
I created a 20 x 15 map with different tiles at each corner of the map to serve as landmarks. The bug happens when the map wraps vertically and it triggers when you move your character south. As you pass the bottom edge of the map and loop back to the top of your map, your character's graphic will be blank. The graphic will return to normal if you go north again. If you loop through the map 3 times going south, you need to go north 3 times to get your graphic back to normal.
Going north in a vertical-wrapped map doesn't seem to trigger this. Horizontal wrapping seems to be fine.
