STORY:
Long ago, when magic was young, the earliest mages bickered over how to use it. This new energy was unlike anything humans had ever seen, and they were quite confused as to its purpose. Were they to let it be, or use it for themselves? These warring ideologies soon spilled over into the mages' social system, and they became divided into two factions, each vying for control over the world's magic. However, things soon got out of hand, and when the magic was stretched too far beyond its original form, it went out of control and required the combined power of both factions to contain. The resulting balance of power was named "Rhukaat" which, in their ancient tongue, means "chain of power."
The Rhukaat is still in existance today, presiding over every element, and flowing through every bit of magic used anywhere in the world. It is this chain that keeps the energy of the universe in harmony. However, what would happen should this chain suddenly... break? In this adventure, you get to determine exactly that as you chase down the Black Mages to keep their master from undoing the very fabric of time itself, and causing the world, as we know it, to come to an end.
CHARACTERS:
I can only provide biographies for the 2 central characters without giving too much of the story away.
KEO
One of the top-ranking officers of the Paladin's Guild, Keo sort of fell into his current life without much choice. His father, Karmichael, was a legendary Paladin and one of the founding members of the current Guild, and so Keo's involvement with the Paladins was always to be expected. However, much to the annoyance of his fellow Paladins, Keo has always been handed his powers and positions within the Guild, mainly due to his lineage. His devil-may-care attitude also annoys his more serious comrades, especially Velmont.
VELMONT
Velmont's mother died in childbirth, and his father died at war. Even from an early age, Velmont had it rough. It was always him and his brother Varus growing up, living off the streets. However, his life came crashing down around him when the Black Mages raided his hometown. He saw his town reduced to flames, and his brother vanished. Velmont joined the Paladin's Guild that day, vowing to destroy the Black Mages in exchange for destroying his life.
