YES!!! I finally got my TV show character sprites to display right!

Okay--I didn't mean to flood the community page.

Video Game Confessions

I have never finished Zelda II: The Adventure of Link because of the giant Bot (the blue jelly things) in the Great Palace

Breaking the Fourth Wall

Took a look and it looks pretty interesting--pity the download link is disabled.

Color codes for the gang's commentary:Ash-Red window; Misty-Light blue window, Brock-Green window, Dawn-Yellow window

I'm probably going to start on the script today (complete with riffing)

Breaking the Fourth Wall

Each human character would have a distinct style of riffing:

Ash--commenting on (or making fun of) the cheesy parts

Misty--commenting on the plot, plot holes, and inconsistencies

Brock--musical riffs galore, mainly referring to other Nintendo games (eg. if the show characters are overlooking an area with lots of places a person could jump over, he might "sing" the Mario theme (achieved by tuning "Platforms-a-Plenty" down to match his classic voice

Dawn--commenting on special effects (or lack thereof)

So I want to create a frame of a living room, where the frame characters watch the TV show that the player plays--any idea how I can do this, if at all?

I have a barebones living room mockup and I'll have a second version (but still barebones) finished shortly

Breaking the Fourth Wall

How would that work?

Dawn is watching and gently poking fun at the show as well, so there's four humans and a Pokemon in all

...the way I would do this is to have a cut-scene with Ash and co sitting in front of said TV, and when they turn it on, that's when the title screen of the game comes up. I'm imagining that said cut-scene would play with each play session, so allowing it to be skipped might be appropriate.

I LOVE that idea! (although I may have to get a TV sprite that turns on, the one I have doesn't turn on)

I could just do a fade out of the gang around the TV (I already have Ash, Pikachu, Misty, Brock, and Dawn already in the game), which fades in to the title screen to mimic the TV turning on.

To further add to the fact the player is controlling a TV show, I could have an announcer pop in to set the scene in the TV world and add "'The Song Mage Chronicles' will be right back after these messages." and "We now return to 'The Song Mage Chronicles'"

(The Song Mage Chronicles is the name of the show the gang is watching, BTW)

Breaking the Fourth Wall

Actually, Ash and the gang are not the TV characters, they are the audience watching the TV show--what I'm trying to create is them shouting advice at the TV show characters or poking fun at RPG cliches and fantasy tropes

Breaking the Fourth Wall

I'm probably going to go the text message route--may also change its colors to denote who is praising or heckling
