The RPG Music Challenge

I don't think you necessarily need all orchestra instruments - I've been recently arranging a song for an orchestra+computer, so I used some synthesized instruments WITH the orchestral instruments.

The RPG Music Challenge

I'm pretty much done with my piece, and only have four words for it: Wall of sweet harmonics (not the person, obviously).

Hmm... why do I have the feeling that the last phase is going to be some type of battle theme..?

I strongly disagree with titles.

It will skew the results. Titles can make or break any form of entertainment. This is a music competition, not a marketing competition. A composer may be very musically gifted, yet completely terrible at thinking of a good title.
If someone is bad at thinking of a good title, they can choose to leave it untitled, or just call it the phase 2 entry.

I doubt it would skew the results badly, just allow authors to give a bit more context as to the kind of situation they're talking about. With such broad themes, there are many forms the songs can take - it could help the listeners to understand what they're listening to a bit better to allow titles.

Thinking of a title isn't really marketing. It's just thinking of a title. Allows a bit more personality (though admittedly, there should be plenty in the music itself).

But meh, whatever.

The RPG Music Challenge

Oh yes, by the way. I'm just about done with my song for this phase too. I'm hoping that having some synthesized instruments and a guitar won't disturb it, since I have quite a few woodwinds/strings and a piano, and they make up the core of the song. Oh, and a choir... kind of. You'll understand when you hear it.

Kentona, I was wondering if you could post the titles of the songs for the next batch, if people decide to title their songs... I think it's cooler, if people have named their songs, if you post that with the file... It can lend people an idea of what the creator had in mind when they envisioned crafting the feel of the song.

I most definitely agree. Sometimes the title helps set the mood for the song, and assists in creating the right atmosphere. Otherwise, people could just be like "What the heck is the point of this?" when the song is a bit confusing having only a small amount of context. Titles help with that, as I said.

I would think of nostalgia as a mixture of happy and sad.

Happy: It was a good time in your life, you were happy then, and (generally) it seemed perfect.

Sad: It's gone. You miss it. It won't come back.

I would say that this is something that would be best done with something sad tinged with happiness, like "Oh, I remember this, it was wonderful then". Kind of reliving the memories, but with the taint that you know it's not reality anymore.

The RPG Music Challenge - Phase 1 Results!

Oh, my bad. I didn't see the part saying it was an example for "entry 42". lol. I normally skim read, so that's my problem. I apologize.

Anyway, to cast my vote...

My vote: Entry 11.
