Under World (Land of the Dead) Review

I saw this review and decided to play the game. While it is playable and does a few things rights, the bad outweighs the good. This is not a 4.5 star game, sorry, it's more of a 2 or 2.5, which is average. Like this game. There is no polish here. Everything is the basic form of a good idea. It's not visually pleasing at all. The way things are presented to the player seems sloppy. This whole game feels awkward to play.

It doesn't matter that the person made it when they were young. It's a good game for a young kid, but it doesn't deserve a 4.5/5. I didn't get too far in this game. Nothing about it is cohesive or makes me want to play at all. I would have played more of this game 10 years ago. In fact this review feels like it was written 10 years ago, when standards were lower. If someone wants to send me a savefile further into the game with more interesting levels, interesting monsters, and skills that attack in a different way I would be happy to play. But based on the first part of this game, I would NOT recommend it to anyone. This is clearly a starter game and my main point is that this does not deserve the inflated rating. I'm not asking you to change it, I'm not going to write my own review, I'm just letting people know the truth about this game.

Warning: This review does not reflect the true nature of the game. Reader beware.

Plot and Dialogue 3.5/5
This is pretty important to the overall appeal of a game. This game doesn't do well in this area. Terrible pacing, cut scenes with no text that are of no importance, old dwarf men talking like teenagers...
Graphics 4/10
This is more forgivable in a game but again, it's not done well. The graphics are all over the place and some are downright awful.
Sound 5/5
Really? There is Chrono Trigger and FF(9?) in the first 10 minutes of the game. There is nothing inspiring about the sound/music of this game. It's seems to be mostly RTP and common rips.
Gameplay 4.5/5
I was hoping there would be something cool here to make sense of this statement

There is no way around it, this is the best action battle system of any RM game I’ve ever played.

but all I can say is that you need to play more ABS games made in 2k3. http://rpgmaker.net/games/2858/ (NOTE: only 4 stars)
The way you dash around does somewhat solve the issue with the hit detection issues in 2k3 but it's not enjoyable. It makes battles more tedious because you need room to attack so you spend most of your time walking in circles to get a good shot at the enemy. It creates a new problem that is worse that what was trying to be solved.
Replay Value 5/5
No comment.
Overall 22/25
I just don't see how this adds up, figuratively and literally (I get 22/30)

In a place where there are literally thousands of games like this to choose from it doesn't make sense to force players to put 20 hours in to get to the good parts. I suspect it's only kids who are still in high school(or lower) that actually play this game past 20 hours. The average person does not have that kind of time to put into a buggy vulgar game, there are better games to play/things to do/life to live.

w Review

The fact that it has so much vulgar language turns me off instantly. Full of bugs and bad dialogue, over 90 hours to beat? are you out of your fucking mind?!...yeah, this review needed to be written. To tell the truth! Good job.

The number of downloads on this game seems kind of fishy too....it's only been up for like 6 months.

*edit: it's not even the download size. I mean, people viewing the gamepage can only go by what information is given. The screenshots don't show anything impressive, most look on par with the hundreds of other mediocre games that have less than 100 downloads, and that space screen is downright awful. Maybe it doesn't look as bad in motion, I don't know, but it's definitely a bad choice of screen shot. So there is only the description. It's very well writen and reeks of bs. It doesn't really go into detail on what is in the game, but has these sentences that make it seem like whatever is in there is fucking awesome. It has poor english which should clue you into what to expect in game. It's actually quite funny that it appears like the biggest draw to the game is the expected play time xD People even state that the only reason they are interested in the game is that it claims to take over 90 hours. This review also makes it very clear why it takes over 90 hours. The developer seems more competent than the average Joe Dickweed, this game supposedly has all kinds of edits to the DBS. It seems to be riddled with bugs though, probably because of those edits. Compare it to the other hugely popular games on the site. Some of which have been up for several times longer and have close to the same if not less downloads. It just doesn't add up. It doesn't help that the download counter is ridiculously easy to fool, you don't even have to download. As long as the download button is clicked, you can hit cancel and you got a download counted. This just seems like one of those greasy used car dealers who can make a lemon seem like gold. If these were legitimate downloads, then good for you. I'm not trying to undermine your "success". I'm just very skeptical and sad to see a game like this get more publicity than games that deserve it more. To think that 4000+ people spent over 100 hours on this game breaks my heart.

Space Funeral Review

I'm not saying it's nothing but weirdness but the weird is a pretty big part of it and if your not into that... That's why I'm not writing a review.

I didn't really make it that far in, I got a taste of it and enjoyed it.

Space Funeral Review

The high pitched pinging sounds whenever I attacked were kind of annoying and battles got stale quick, but the atmosphere of this game with the music/custom gfx made it worth while to play (for 20 minutes). I was baked and it was quite a trip. The music was the best thing about the game.

I got bored though and it was awkward to navigate. I think 4 stars is a little high, but it's probably because I'm not into the 'weird for the sake of being weird' aspect.

As foolish as he is for ignoring us

we are foolish for continuing to try and get through to a guy like that.

There really is nothing left to say(that hasn't been said 25 times)

Original Block Land Review

so your obnoxiousness was all just a clever plot to sucker us into playing your game? touché

Original Block Land Review

you still haven't admitted there is a problem in your game

no way in hell your shitty blocks will be downloaded to my PC :3

Better not try something annoying twice after it failed the first time.

Does that mean you won't be making any more games? :D

Liberty is trying so hard to be nice(its hard with this one, eh?) heh

I refuse to give this game another download to just prove what I can clearly see. Keep up your thick-headed temper tantrums. It all adds up.

There have been non insulting pieces of advice that result in "YOU'RE ALL IDIOTS" so at this point there is no reason to keep on trying to be nice.

Original Block Land Review

It's so hard to keep cool when responding to a post like that, but I will try. I'm not trying to make this into personal attack but your ignorance towards basic design principles is appalling to say the least. Most of us take gaming seriously and we know a thing or to about it. We're trying to help you and you just ignore solid advice. You come into this forum with games such as this and you seem surprised to hear such negative comments. Then you just make things worse by the stance you take when presented with criticism.

Even if there is a way around, if the player can enter a situation where they are stuck and have to close the game and restart at the last save, it IS a glitch. There is no way to sugercoat it or explain it or rationalize it. You deny the fact that it is a glitch but then you say it gets fixed later anyways. If it's not a glitch then why would it get fixed? You can only fix something that is broken.

There are hundreds of games on this site. When someone decides to play a game, your game, they are not obligated to finish it. They will only want to finish it if they are drawn into it in the first little while of playing it. This is fact! It doesn't make sense to say "it gets better later on". The fact that you are not listening to your audience means that you will never be successful as a game designer. If you do not cater to your audience you will fail infinitely. Don't call them idiots, your not making any fans. He took the time to download it and play it, which is more than I would do so hats off to that brave man.
