Fey Review
I don't get the title. Can someone explain it?
I still have to get around to playing this again. Played the demo and loved it.
Ashes - Do you think you'll ever update the game based on this, or any other, feedback? Some of these points do seem like they would detract from the enjoyment and I want to play this game at it's best. I'm probably more forgiving, because I also make ABS games in 2k3 xD We gotta stick together.

Star Stealing Prince Review
Not everybody likes writing reviews, or feels that they have good enough writing skills, or can be bothered to take the time to do it. Among other reasons. I didn't play the game and I still feel this is a bad review. I don't feel as strongly about it as other people, and I'm certainly not going to play and review it myself.
It's a good counter argument, but you can't expect everybody to write a review. It seems like you are trying to discourage discussion because you don't like how it sounds. People see something they don't like and want to voice their opinion of it.
"Writing your own review" isn't the only relevant response to this.

There is so much more I could reply to but I feel it's a wasted effort. Either the RM gods will make mods come yell at me for defending my design choices or this will simply fall by the wayside no one giving it a second thought.
Insert kentona coming in and saying "Excuse me? I have never yelled at anyone for defending their design choices..." heh

I'm more confused as to why Pom Gets Wi-fi is getting a ton of positive reviews and hardly anyone has any balls to speak up about how idiotic it actually is.
Pom isn't a full fledged RPG and doesn't really deserve a mention here. You can't compare apples to oranges. It's a certain type of game, it's in it's own little genre, and people like that stuff. It does what it meant to do quite well. It's the same reason people who don't like Sports game, don't go out of their way to say how idiotic they are.
As soon as I saw 2 stars and the name of the game, I knew there would be some heat on this review. It's not really that good, though. The heat, that is.
The review is pretty shitty. How far did you even get? You didn't talk about anything else. You should have just posted your rant as a comment and moved on with your life. Just because you played a game, doesn't mean you have to review it, and reviewing it in this case is a pretty dickish thing to do. It does sound like you just suck at games.
Games don't need to be tailored to the average person.

It being a contest game shouldn't excuse bad gameplay. Even a contest game should be test played, and if someone can test play and get raped like that and not fix it, well...I dunno how to finish that thought.
I know that when I review I don't think "This is average, so should be 2.5". I give it a rating I think it deserves. Nothing else comes into account other than my experience with the game. Not others expectations and certainly not the circumstances in which the game was created. "Oh, this was made by a terminal cancer patient, maybe if I give an extra star he will come around" xD

It's one thing to acknowledge it was made with limits, but if that is allowed to affect to score in a upward manner, then it's not a true reflection of the quality of the game. It's a game, regardless of how or why it was created, and should be judged the same as any other game.

Nevertheless I uploaded new version with much easier battles, since in a "joke" game no one has the patience to invest in battles.
After reading what LockeZ had to say, I don't think you made them easy enough!

The way it balances out the game's overall star value, it sounds about right. Although I do agree that this seems to read with glasses a little too thick 8)

Also, get it through your skull that no one here is "trolling".Right, sorry, I should have said complaining.
Maybe your opinion is the fallible one right now? Who's to say? It is opinion, after all.
And maybe you should embrace the viewpoint that some people don't care what criteria you think a review should hit and stop trying to push it on other people. Feel free to write an article, for those who actually want to listen to suggestions on how to better write a review. I don't see how constantly "discussing" it in an existing review, in the general direction of an author who clearly doesn't give a shit what you think, will "change the future".
Nothing will change after this "discussion", just like it didn't change after the last one.
Anything you think applies to games applies to reviews as well, and vice-versa. The "I do games for myself" argument is pretty common among people who cannot handle criticism, so is not universally accepted that games should cater to others. And even if reviews are just a matter of opinion, opinions are not infallible, and will always be subject to the community they belong to...Yeah, that's a valid point. There are always expections, a minority though.
There are games where the person does make it for themselves(and some friends) and they don't care what others think. Often times those games are joke games or about gangsters wanting crack. You either "get it" or you don't. Typically a good game, or a persons first game that is trying to be good, is crafted and presented to the public for them to enjoy. What they think matters and feedback on anything is wanted and taken into account. They posted it for people to tell them what they thought of it(in the form of, oh, let's say, a review xD). When someone gets really upset over bad crit, and says "i made it for me anyways", that's probably because they care quite a bit about what other people think and they don't realize it or want to admit it. Why are they getting so upset, ya know?
But I don't think it's exactly vice-versa for reviews. The communities opinion of your opinion doesn't matter. It's opinion! The response from a community depends on which community and who's a part of it, so it's not a constant. There will always be some for and some against, no matter how "proper" it's written. The review isn't posted to be analyzed and validated. It's there to say "This is what I thought of this game". That's it. I could easily find a way rag on Corf's response review, but I'm not interested. Whoever reads the review can determine for themselves how valid it is. Trying to do that yourself comes off as preachy.
A person has a right to give their opinion, in any way they see fit. It's not like they are forcing you to read it and accept it. I really don't get this movement to try and refine reviews to fit any kind of criteria beyond what's already in place. Any interference undermines the point of being able to freely review a game. Just like when the government tries to interfere with free speech, people go bat shit crazy.
You've all suggested he should have written this differently, and he's found many humorous of ways of flipping the bird. At least create a topic or something and talk about things in general instead of centering it around this review.
My final thoughts(not directed to a specific person):
I'm not saying it's wrong to write an objective detailed review that takes into account all aspects of the game and scores them appropriately, that's how I write my reviews. I'm not advocating this review that focuses on how the "default" gameplay and bad story leads to the low rating, but I think it's valid. I'm suggesting that you have no right to tell Sated, or anybody else how they should review. It's not up to you. Although you are free to suggest it* and promote it, in the right place and time.
*Suggest it once, not over and over endlessly. That goes beyond suggestion.
Lunar Wish: Orbs of Fate Review
The only difference is that discussion about a review will ultimately serve no purpose. In almost every case the writer doesn't change his ways(or the review) because of people complaining that they don't like it. Except maybe weak willed people who actually get so discouraged by trolling, they don't want to write reviews anymore. This happens with games too, and even just posting on the forums in general.
Reviews are opinion and nobody should change their opinion for other people. A game is meant to be enjoyed by others, so it should cater to other people.

Lunar Wish: Orbs of Fate Review
Actually, I believe the submission process is only there to make sure the guidelines are adhered like formatting and length. In some cases, staff is aware that a certain review might be a revenge review and deny it. But I don't think they disallow a review because they don't think the score matches the game.
I can't say much about the fairness because I haven't played the game, but I still think a person is allowed to say what they want in a review. What he said sounds solid to me, he's a person that looks at the motivation and believability of the character personalities, and it sounds like they are pretty flat. And I don't think they need to include certain things(like 2.5 points for "average" graphics) that others would put in their own review.
