Why are a lot of us dicks?

Not to complain, or sound off track...but I just had a thought...What does this have to do with Game Development and Discussion?

Soundtrack: A Make-or-Gamebreaker?

Silent Hill and Britney Spears is where it's at

That truly is a horrible thought friend. I tremble in fear of it happening now that its been said.

Soundtrack: A Make-or-Gamebreaker?

An interesting topic. I'd have to say music/audio in general is a really big Game-Maker/-Breaker. Yes, fitting music is nice to keep interest but also consider the mood that said music should inspire. Look to the Silent Hill series as an example of good mood music. Quiet at points and vicious in others. The soundtracks are actually quite interesting to listen to on there own. I've not heard it myself, but the music to Castle Crashers is supposedly rather intriguing as well. I think it could be vital to a game, but it could also be horribly out of place and ruin it at the same time. Imagine playing Castlevania in that dark gothic setting and adventure, and being bombarded with Super Mario Worlds main theme.

I also agree, Newgrounds is quite nice for some decent indie music

Why are a lot of us dicks?

I would say that its because the sheer anonymity given by a screen name is to some people an excuse to let loose and say what they want to say regardless. Think of these individuals as your typical high school bully; dumb, ignorant, and very slow to mature. Of course most people describe such individuals as Trolls.

Some however, like real life, are drawn towards charismatic individuals and stay as followers, often emulating those who seem more outspoken and interesting. Unfortunately, this usually either constitutes the first group of individuals or these people can't seem to cling to the community and leave.

For those of us who attempt to be idealistic and decent, we grow weary from the constant barrage of the first two groups. We become jaded and cynical. While nowhere near as aggressive, we all still have that bite.

cause of diminished interest in game creation

This, it's better to just release your game in segments. Create the core system, the basic functions in which you can later add upon. Then the rest is just maps and graphical works. You should already have your scenarios ready to be implemented and a story + character stuff done.

Actually, my current project works like that but its going to be a larger scale thing with each part being capable of stand alone play but also being attached to a larger game. Although I must regret it is still in the extreme beginnings of pre production, including the ever wondering 'How the Hell am I gonna do this' phase.

Need sprites

It wouldn't be hard but it would depend on the kind of sprites you'd like. Sprite editting isn't hard at base levels

I've seen it in real life but where they were placed made me question if they even worked. There's a shop in town here where the actually just leave one on and the other is always 'broken'. Many an unsuspecting quarter got dropped into that machine.

How about we just call you Freakke the Clown

Have we crossed paths before? Or are you simply enamored by the name?

Salutations, My Name is...

...complicated. Many people know me on the internet by many names. Am I famous? In one or two small circles kind of but not really. I have many names, although I have relied on one lately more than most. I have chosen the moniker of Vampire Zero, an old character of mine, as my name here for nostalgic reasons and would like to mention I have also been known as Dave the Zombie, Vulshaak, Mr. Black, Zero Black, Syko, SykoJoe, Aegis, and Freakke the Clown. You may call me Zero or Z for short though.

As far as game making goes, I'm rather unaccomplished although the ideas never stop. I have experimented with several different engines and have picked up some minor insights through all of them but I still have a ways to go.

Anything and everything I do I expect criticism, both constructive and negative forms. They help.

Lastly, but not least of all, I would like to thank you for welcoming me into this community and I hope to have something of value for you in the near future.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

My as of yet unnamed 'Big' project.

A bit more detail into my immediate plans:

So I've decided that to keep things simple as far as graphics go for the first 'demo'. I'm reusing the overworld map from LoZ, and if your really picky, most of the sprites too. My goal for demo one is to have the engine built and ready for use. That said, I'm going to try and implement a good bit of stuff into it. Though I expect there'll be a few demo's of the demo before I move on.

I'm looking to get four buttons used in the long run. A Standard action button(talk, jump, etc.), an Attack button, and two Skill/Item buttons. I'm designing this to be more like the SNES controller although I've been toying with the idea of using W,A,S,D movement and using the Num Pad 1 thru 9 for actions.
