Now that you mention it, the ground does look rather dull. It's funny how we don't notice these things until someone points them out, sort of like proof reading haha.
I'm using Kylock's Autolight script. Easy enough for someone like me to use, but not a tone of options to it. I did try and tweak it a bit however and I think it looks marginally better.
For this one map in particular, I didn't add any plants/flowers just because I wanted it empty. This is the last map before encountering a boss, and I didn't want to take anything away from the tension as most plants and herbs are pick-able for alchemy. I do find though that when I am placing plants/flowers, that I have a tough time making look naturally placed.
I don't think I quite have the ability to add snow to the trees, but I wouldn't mind experimenting with photo-shopping if there were some tutorials you could point me towards.
I've changed my homepage to the edited version of this map.
Your critiques are always very much appreciate. Thanks :-)

This looks pretty good. I would love to test it. Also, I may just take you up on that help request. Im no RPG Maker God, but I've fooled around here and there with the program, and I'd like to say I've gotten pretty decent at it.
I sent you a PM. =D
Greetings and Salutations
Looking back, I often take periodic hiatuses from my projects after getting burnout. My usual routine is: rediscover Rpg-Maker, go hard, lose drive, quit. I'm going to try and avoid that this time around. I appreciate the advice (and the link!) Thanks 8-)

Yeah, you're right. That's probably too optimistic.
I've just never felt this dedicated towards a project before, and I want more than anything to see it come to life. In a couple months I'll take a look a where I am, how much I've accomplished since today and whether or not I need to make an adjustment to the target completion date.
I mean, 'real games' post-pone things all the time right? :p

Averting level grinding
When it comes down to it I think you should always first strive to make a game that is entertaining to play. Addressing level grinding is a smart idea.
If you replaced EXP from battles with some other incentive, it could change things up enough to actually make the random encounters exciting. For example, if monsters dropped unique items that could be used to craft weapons, armor, potions etc.. it might just provide enough incentive to stay in the battles, while giving them a bit of randomness and excitement.
