Black Winter Review

you say why Matt did not call co-workers or friends?

Matt later speak with a friend by phone, who is going to help them.

There are many, many things the game has to offer, it makes me laugh because you did not see anything, but nothing of the game, you only saw the top of the iceberg. Not even a fight against any monster, or you did not see the first flashback (they are 6 in total), you did not see the other mysterious character who appears later in the story, you did not a fight against any boss, you did note see anything, practically. The game lenght five hours.

--------------------------------------
when you say that both characters do not react to the blood in the bathroom, I did so to be the player who reacts to this.

I can not put a dialog for every little thing that happens in the game.

There are some situations in which the characters react, for example when Lily sees Emma's picture with red eyes, she freaks out and screams, and if you control Matt, he also gets scared.

What 8-way to walk it works, not all scenarios because sometimes the tileset does not allow.

You think that everything should be perfect game but there are always errors always, a few errors. Your criticism does not make sense if you played only 10% of the game, but still much left much to know.

IGN, Kotaku and other video games web pages analyze the games once they have completed 100% its story, no before.

Let me tell you if you played only 40 minutes of the game, I'm sorry for you.

Because the real gameplay start a little later in which the player can do many things: walk, run, hide, shoot (many creatures by the way), explore much rooms, open doors, solve puzzles, find secrets.

You can not make a review if you played only 10% of the game.

3 people who know English helped me to translate the game and you can't criticize the work of them just like that.

Is right, the game is not a native English language, but at least people understand it.

In my e-mail I received good reviews of the game, so much so that several people has written me that they are finished game in a single day.

In all review you don't say anything positive from the game. (almost)

I think this game is not for impatient players like you. you want everything to be gameplay and gameplay and that is not possible, player first must see the controls, characters, gameplay mechanics, all gradually and so the difficulty level will rise. Scenes of gameplay is appearing with more frequently.

sorry but your review is not valid because you have not played practically nothing in the game.

Flare Let's Play, Black Winter (11 Videos), Completed

Save points are similar like resident evil 1, 2, 3, etc. (specific areas)

While I disagree with some of Shayoko's points I do share their overall rating.

Something that will really help you on future projects is to step back from your story after all the writing is done and think "does anything here contradict anything else?" and "is anything here that doesn't contribute beneficially" It's a common writing exercise that I've always done and now I see that I've been taking it's usefulness completely for granted. When it's not used the problems are so obvious that they suck the life out of the entire game.

I'm writing a proper review right now but in summary the game's biggest flaw is player engagement. Lengthy cutscenes only work when they're emotionally or intellectually engaging. While player engagement doesn't require player interaction (visual novels being great proof of this) without engaging the player physically, emotionally or intellectually the overall experience suffers to the point of being insufferable.

45 mins in, got into the main game proper, dropped.

long introductions are sometimes necessary. Better a game that explain you in detail the story and characters than a game that know nothing about the story.

Example: Mad Father is a great game and has an introduction about 40 minutes (you can't play, just watch some scenes and flashbacks).

Random thoughts
Those warnings that say don't play the game if you are (what people should be)
make no sense. should just say what kind of potential offensive content is in the experience.

That cardboard truck!

Why would you do something for gods sake? it doesn't need help.
well he doesnt exist to begin with but if it did it woudn't.

the intro is way too long and tedious...because they keep repeating the same dam things...
and the grammar needs work which includes making it less awkward.
i mean its so bad that lily (the female in your group) says "lets find the mine" that you're standing directly in front of...

the lighting for the campfire looks bad.its blue

i didn't expect to get a vegan lesson here. tho it should be obvious that meat comes from dead animals.
and for them to be dead they have to be killed and chopped into pieces. i pity the idea of a person not understanding that.

tho this guy isn't that smart...they are in the middle of nowhere, during snowstorm...in a dam cave and the thinks his phone is going to work!?
and then there is the fire...the list of problems there are with the fire they made!
not sure if they are ignorant or suicidal.

how do you save!? this is getting ridiculous!

what does morgan mean? "it is freezing out here." (the insides of caves are not effected by surface temperature...so it would not be cold inside...)

Thoughts Dropped
I could go on a rant about why this is terrible and that's not even finishing it.
so generally speaking the badly written dialog aside.
Are the characters suppose to lack all forms of common sense?

they keep repeating themselves thus conversations go no where.
they keep doing illogical things to the point where i wonder if the developer them self lacks knowledge and understanding of things.

and then there is saving. which i never found out how to despite playing for long enough to see at least 1.
As for good points. the character art, mapping and visual atmosphere (excluding the card board truck) is great

Overall
This was a bad experience i don't recommend.

Hey, you can save the game in specific places. If you find a red symbol on the wall, you can save.

At the beginning of the game (in the introduction, there will be some autosave points). The first one is in the entrance of the castle.

I know that the introduction of the game is to long, but it is necessary to know all the characters, the castle, the gameplay mechanics and story.

Give it a chance to play, don't judge the game if you've only played 30 minutes, the game lasts more. thanks for your opinion

Good Bye Rebeca Review

thanks for your review.

I know there are many things to improve for Goodbye Rebeca and without a doubt I'm doing it to my new game Black Winter.

In fact the person who translated Black Winter is a person who has very good level of English. Black Winter is a more ambitious game, with more detail and depth in the story than Goodbye Rebeca.

[RMVX ACE] Demo or no demo?

but in this case I don't speak about commercial games. I speak about demos to free rpg maker games.

Looking forward to the release of Black Winter, hope you don't mind me performing a Let's Play of it like I did with Goodbye Rebeca? ^_^

of course, but remember put the link to tumblr blog and this page :)

[RMVX ACE] Demo or no demo?

do you think is appropriate that you release a demo of their rpg maker game? or do you prefer not see anything from a game until you have full version?
