Blasting "Once Upon a December" through a house full of sleeping people~<3 Muwahaha
Designs using the standard RTP
the problem with mixing 2k/3's RTP with most other available graphics is that the colour scheme is much more low-contrast than you'll typically find in original spritework or SNES rips or what have you (I'd go so far as to call it "pastel" in some cases). it's kind of awkwardly made and doesn't look that great so it'll show pretty clearly next to more experienced work.

The Screenshot Topic Returns
looks pretty nice so far. it's a little weird that the top-right and bottom-left workstations are identical, though, and the top-left and bottom-right too -- change 'em up a bit!

also I'd rename the title Handsome King.
and yeah the film itself is going to be one of those deals where it tries to be very deep but the only message is "everyone else is a sheep, only you are rational". people are super desperate for a way to distinguish themselves in this day and age, but the only way they can sort of manage is by pretending everyone else is lower than they are by default.

I think complaining that they made Ky more feminine is maybe a decade behind the curve, though.
really impressed with how they did the 3D here. the way they've hept the animation down to keyframes like most sprite-based fighters really keeps the feel of the original. this style of cel-shading has a really appealing Skullgirls sort of inky aesthetic, too. diggin' it.

I think you pretty much have to torrent it. the name of the series is just Monkey, but for some reason a lot of people seem to call it Monkey Magic. maybe those terrible dishonest sorts who host torrents might also call it Monkey Magic, presumably while ripping all 52 episodes from DVD! I certainly wouldn't know for sure.
and yeah, it's incredibly charming. it was obviously made on the thinnest of shoestring budgets, but the actors all show great talent -- both the original Japanese cast and the English voice actors. it's firmly in the fog-machines-and-rubber-monsters camp of special effects, but honestly? I love that kind of thing. and it doesn't keep them from doing all kinds of ridiculous stuff.
(I identify strongly with Sakai's character. irrepressible natures, tendency to infuriate authority, etc.)
