do you not see the paradox in making huge sweeping statements about how everyone should live by survival of the fittest and the government is coddling the weak and so on, then turning around and complaining that you should be able to live your life your way because
my tax dollars
?
I have no problem with you trying to live your life your way, but I think it's unrealistic to say that government deregulation is some kind of panacea, and it's desperate and impotent to act as if you have any say in how your tax dollars are spent. if anything, the greatest blow to capitalist society comes not from government regulation, but from private families and businesses learning the system and exploiting it to create an economy of desperation that feeds on the lower and middle classes.
the problem with social darwinism is that it invariably leads to the formation of an apex predator class that lives off of the lower classes and is itself constantly on the verge of starving. I don't call that a very healthy society, but you may disagree.

maybe I'm crazy, but I've always thought that the Merchant of Venice would have had a much more satisfying ending if Shylock had known to just use a hot knife.
apropos of nothing.

If people wish to take care of these people, they may do so on their own behalf, help should be on a community level, not federal. Throwing more power at government so you can feel better about yourself is the exact reason why this country is failing.
I don't think you understand the extent to which you yourself burden society. it's fallacious to pretend that people should be forced to provide for the "weak" out of their own means alone simply to satisfy your individualist fantasies.
anyone can have a bad day, or a bad year. you would change your tune very quickly if you fell on hard times yourself, because the commonly-touted bootstraps fantasy of libertarians and conservatives is nothing but a myth.
just who are you advocating leaving to rot, again? remember that to someone, somewhere, you yourself are in the same category.
society only begins to exist when we come together as a people and provide for others what they cannot provide for themselves, with the understanding that they would do the same for us. if you disagree, I hear there are some lovely caves you could live in. as it is, though, it's hypocritical to live your comfortable life supported by the efforts of tens of thousands and pretend you have the knowledge and the authority to dictate who gets to benefit.
"fuck you, got mine". right?

Just popping in again to say that the legality of the graphics isn't strictly a problem -- it's not unheard of for game developers to use ripped graphics while prototyping. Some might argue that it's very unwise to include these in promotional material, and that after more than three years he should be well past the prototyping phase, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt when he says he intends on phasing them out.
There are some very real problems, however, associated with his current choice of engine. How he chooses to approach that is his decision, of course, but it's a very bad idea to assume that it'll turn out okay just based on the reactions of your backers so far. Don't roll the dice with legal liability if you can help it.
The thing that probably concerns me most, though, is that I've gone around and taken some basic quotes on how much it would cost if I wanted to pay someone to sprite roughly the same volume of graphics found in the RTP, and conservative estimates are roughly around the $30,000 mark -- over six times his kickstarter goal, and that's even before taking commissioning a programmer into account (which could very well be on a similar price scale, depending on what you need to do). Community rates may be lower, and further adjustments may be made to account for the lower resolution, but even so I think it's a stretch to think that all this is possible for under five thousand dollars.
The completion of a Kickstarter imposes certain legal obligations on the person or company that has received the funding, and for this reason it's a good idea to have a clear understanding of your capabilities and costs before creating one. It concerns me that he doesn't seem to have done so.

probably because it's really difficult to create a credible feeling of pursuit when the player is looking at things in the third person?
and therefore can know automatically if something is within a certain distance of the player character?
(and probably because rpg maker is also really weak when it comes to movement and so on?)
