Steel from Gaming World has passed away

A long-time member of Gaming World has passed away. Those of you who knew, Steel from GW had been fighting cancer for a while now and things took a turn for the worse. It was announced earlier today that he had gone.

Steel was never a part of this site, but he was still a young man who left far too soon. The RMN staff hopes and prays for his family and his memory.

Please post your responses in the thread at Gaming World.

"Your characters have stats" -Craze

Craze is in the midst of recounting all his game making exploits and efforts, much to the glee of his fans (and to the chagrin to those who believe he's breaking the forum rules)! Whatever. It's a fun romp down memory lane for Craze as he regales us with anecdotes from his earlier creations. Craze's rep as a prolific game creator becomes evident as the thread goes on a more and more creative games are featured. He puts even the most productive of us to shame!

The RPGMaker Hump

Many of you, surely, have felt the surge of energy you get when starting a new project. You get to do all that stuff you enjoy doing and seeing a new idea take shape, and the intro comes together and blah blah blah, but then a few months/years into the project suddenly... the energy isn't there anymore. You've done all the parts you wanted to do.

Now what?

One of the biggest hurdles any developer faces is finishing their game. The thought of opening up the editor yet again to finish off an area, or trudging through your game for the umpteenth time to find some bugs can be just so...deflating. What can you do to get through this? What do YOU do to get over this? Post your thoughts on this important topic.

Neok has converted his views into an article. You can read it here.

What is it?
Paul Moose In Space World was made for the Game Jolt 'Axiom' contest. The axiom used was "A picture's worth a thousand words." It is a quirky point-and-click adventure game with a unique style.

Why should you care?
This is one of the few games from our little community (as in "people who have accounts on RM sites") that have made waves outside of it. Check it out here in this scan of PC Zone magazine.

Putting the spotlight on a oft-overlooked game

"I can honestly say this is one of the best RM games I played."- DE

What is it?
The Burning Grail is a post-apocalyptic RPG thriller. It also has a great name.

Why should you care?
Many people consider this to be one of the great completed RM RPGs. It’s a short game, but it sure packs quite a punch!

This installments's Play Something! Challenge

Yeah, this is a little bit after the fact (Hallowe'en) but I was busy in October. Besides, true creepy games are always creepy regardless of the time of year!

1. You don't have to actually finish the game/demo, but of course you should get far enough as to where you can say you've actually played it.
2. You don't have to like the game/demo. You're completely entitled to think that the games you picked suck ass. And that brings me to my next point, and perhaps most important...
3. After you've played the games/demos you picked, give something back! This is the most important part of the whole thing! Not just a "Looks good", or "That was fun", give something more. Write a review (and submit it to the site even), post your opinions on the gamepages, list bugs you encountered, hell, maybe we'll even get something that I couldn't even have imagined. Surprise me.

Dim the lights and play these games! (Welp!)

Solitayre

Highly prolific reviewer!
..:: Reviews :: Articles ::..

The self-styled amateur pretentious game critic and even more amateur pretentious game developer Solitayre burst on to the RMN scene with a flurry of reviews. He's staff now!

In his own words...

RMN HISTORY:
Long ago in an ancient land, I was but a lowly, pitiful amateur game designer who was disgusted with everything he ever made. One day, I was searching the web for answers on how to make a great RPG Maker game. It was then I came upon the article series by The Real Brickroad and was shown the light. Intrigued, I spent some time lurking about the site occasionally and downloaded a few games to play.

About a year later, I decided to officially join the site and offer my thoughts on all the games I had played. It sort of spiraled out of control from there. Having recently achieved official reviewer status, I spend most of my time on the site reviewing games and posting controversial topics that inspire unchecked flame wars meaningful discussion about a variety of subjects.

That all said, I still don’t consider myself any good at making games.

PERSONAL BLURB:
I am a graduate of Albion College and hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Anthropology and Sociology. This of course means I am utterly unqualified for any real work, but I hope to gain teaching certification in the near future. In the meantime I do kitchen work and other random odd jobs.

Contrary to popular belief, I am not a girl. But I am a feminist.

SPARE TIME:
I spend far too much time reading, but I am also very fond of cooking. But when I am at home I am never far from my computer.

FAVORITE FOOD:
I enjoy any kind of seafood. And cookies.

FAVORITE SAYING:
"The dumber people think you are, the more surprised they're going to be when you kill them."
-William Clayton

PET PEEVE:
Thoughtless overuse of vulgar language in RM games, it loses its impact when you throw it around so rampantly.

Oversexualization of women in vdeo games, RM or otherwise. Not only is it fairly degrading to females but as a male I find it fairly insulting.

Silviera's rampant scope creep.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT:
I am actually not much of a gamer. My PC is six years old and cannot run most games, and I have not bought a console game in years.

Recognition for a dedicated member.

Darken for taking over the role of Community Project Go-To-Guy Person Who Runs Contests And Events And Stuff (CPGTGPWRCAE)

...I just realized that he was last edition's S-O... oh well...

WIP for implementing the slick Notifications system at RMN! I love it!

Haha, I'm glad to see you still have time to write these inbetween PARENTING. And that acronym in the shout-out needs to be an official staff position!
Cool. I get notifications if people post comments on my articles too.

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

You need an AS at the end of Darken's title.

Good to see some Onyx love.
So glad to see this I had feared it gone forever thanks kentona.
:O Muse. It's only the old short demo though, don't judge too much... Hopefully full game pretty soon.
I object to the scope creep. It's not creep if you simply decide to have an enormous scope in the first place!
I've been seeing so many reviews by Silviera and Solitayre that they've kinda just melded into the same general person.
Solitayre
Circumstance penalty for being the bard.

We get that a lot.
I think of them as Solivieratayre.
Just remember: Silviera is the mean optimist. Solitayre is the nice pessimist. Easy!
Just seeing Dark Gaia's post for One Night 3 made me realize that I forgot to include One Night in the Play Something! Oh well.
Why does the screenshot from my game link to a different gamepage?
Because I made a mistake. I'll fix it up.
I can't believe it's been almost four years since I finished Onyx

The Burning Grail has some balancing issues, but overall it's a fun game. Gogogogplay!
