Description

Are you ready for the excitement of the 2014 Indie Game Development Contest? Make your dream game during the month of June for a chance to win huge cash prizes (up to $10,000), widespread acclaim, and possibly a review by one of our celebrity judges. Now is your chance to grab the spotlight and become a renowned indie developer!

Sign up for the official contest here

This is the RMN event page for RPG Maker Web's big contest
RMN is not hosting this event. This is a place for RMN members to congregate and showcase their game submissions for this massive event.

June is going to be a massive month for us. Not only is RPG Maker being featured in a Humble Bundle, but June is also National Game Development Month. To celebrate, we here at RPG Maker, in partnership with Humble Bundle, are holding an Indie Game Maker Contest for the entire month!

Here's the best part: there's no restriction on genre or engine! Games will be separated into two categories (RPG and non-RPG) and judged for their presentation, gameplay, and fun factor. Feel free to use any engine you want and make any kind of game you desire (as long as you follow the rules, of course). The games must be complete, though, so be sure to budget your time carefully! We do recommend keeping the play time to under one hour, as the judges will typically stop playing at that point.

This is your chance to have a blast and create that short, creative game you always dreamed of and win a huge prize! If you're an aspiring commercial indie developer, this could be a golden opportunity to put your name on the map!

Contest Timeline
May 29 - June 30, 2014 – Game Development period. Create an awesome gaming experience!
June 30 11:59PM UTC – Deadline for submissions. Completed games only. No late entries will be accepted!
July 1-7 – People's Choice voting period. Voting closes on July 7 at 11:59PM UTC!
July – Judging period. Judges will determine a Grand Prize winner, as well as rank the top three entries in the RPG and non-RPG categories based on a scoring rubric.
Late July – Winners are announced!
Late July/Early August – We will hold a podcast in which we talk about the contest, the winners, and more!

There are 11 prize packages up for grabs, and 8 of them include cold hard cash:

Grand Prize: $10,000
1st-3rd place (each category): $2,500, $1,000, and $500

Yeah, we had to cut a dungeon out of ours to meet the time restrictions. If cutting stuff really bothers you, just keep in mind that you can make a new build where you put back all the stuff you cut after the contest is over :D

That's what I plan on doing. I had five total levels planned. A tutorial, three main ones, and a final level. I ended up cutting it down to a tutorial and one main level. And hey! I made the hour mark with time to spare to touch it up. And soon I'll start the extended edition where I'll include all those levels. I guess the biggest challenge of cutting it down is the conclusion. Leaving room for later additions, but at the same time concluding enough so this small game itself feels complete.
Sooz
They told me I was mad when I said I was going to create a spidertable. Who’s laughing now!!!

Cut out all the story. There is only gam. The purest form of gam mak.

I cut out 95% of the story, leaving only the culmination, how about that.

Without storyline my game would be uh... nothing. Not even a game, really :P. A gam is a gam is a gam is a... gam(Spoken like my favorite Scott Pilgrim character). But if gam is story, then gam without story is no gam. Understand?

No gam is all gam. Every gam, contained in the boundless potential of nothingness.

You must become one with gam.

Me, Red Nova and Sooz have finished ours. What a rush!

I've never done a contest game before, and I must say: It's a lot of stress, but it's quite an adventure, too! I've learned a lot from this experience!
Red_Nova
Sir Redd of Novus: He who made Prayer of the Faithless that one time, and that was pretty dang rad! :D

Yeah, I know!

This whole experience was awesome. I loved every minute of it!
Ruby Radiance is up and ready~

What a rush indeed. Even after a blue screen destroyed my game a week in x_x
Been working mostly in silence but planning on uploading our submission build tonight. Hoping to get some last minute feedback and testing. But with the abundance of games that will be submitted tonight that might be doubtful.

That "?" game at the bottom of the list is foreboding.
I've been keeping well away from posts about games and the games in general but let me just say here near the close of the event that everyone who has taken part should be proud of their efforts and I look forward to seeing just what crazy and awesome games you've all created!

I'm looking forward to them! ^.^
