Description

Are you ready for the excitement of the 2014 Indie Game Development Contest? Make your dream game during the month of June for a chance to win huge cash prizes (up to $10,000), widespread acclaim, and possibly a review by one of our celebrity judges. Now is your chance to grab the spotlight and become a renowned indie developer!

Sign up for the official contest here

This is the RMN event page for RPG Maker Web's big contest
RMN is not hosting this event. This is a place for RMN members to congregate and showcase their game submissions for this massive event.

June is going to be a massive month for us. Not only is RPG Maker being featured in a Humble Bundle, but June is also National Game Development Month. To celebrate, we here at RPG Maker, in partnership with Humble Bundle, are holding an Indie Game Maker Contest for the entire month!

Here's the best part: there's no restriction on genre or engine! Games will be separated into two categories (RPG and non-RPG) and judged for their presentation, gameplay, and fun factor. Feel free to use any engine you want and make any kind of game you desire (as long as you follow the rules, of course). The games must be complete, though, so be sure to budget your time carefully! We do recommend keeping the play time to under one hour, as the judges will typically stop playing at that point.

This is your chance to have a blast and create that short, creative game you always dreamed of and win a huge prize! If you're an aspiring commercial indie developer, this could be a golden opportunity to put your name on the map!

Contest Timeline
May 29 - June 30, 2014 – Game Development period. Create an awesome gaming experience!
June 30 11:59PM UTC – Deadline for submissions. Completed games only. No late entries will be accepted!
July 1-7 – People's Choice voting period. Voting closes on July 7 at 11:59PM UTC!
July – Judging period. Judges will determine a Grand Prize winner, as well as rank the top three entries in the RPG and non-RPG categories based on a scoring rubric.
Late July – Winners are announced!
Late July/Early August – We will hold a podcast in which we talk about the contest, the winners, and more!

Prizes
There are 11 prize packages up for grabs, and 8 of them include cold hard cash:

Grand Prize: $10,000
1st-3rd place (each category): $2,500, $1,000, and $500
People’s Choice: $2,000
Plus, all participants will receive $10 off any purchase in the RPG Maker Web store!

Just as I was putting the finishing touches thinking i had 45 mins to spare I noticed its UTC(?) time, well what a waste of time.
Alas extending events and closing double posts doesn't involve touching the queue so I have no access to it.

e: The backend times are all in UTC, to see your local time you need to set your account's timezone settings. This link should take you to it (unless you aren't logged in)

For those looking for the sweet, sweet makerscore or to get their game onto the list and not lost in a post I extended the submission deadline by 12 hours. To be clear this has no effect on the official contest at contest.rpgmakerweb.com and all that, this is just for getting your game on RMN's event page. Extending events and dealing with double posts only on RMN are my only official duties etc. etc. blah blah.
I approved about 4 or 5 games submitted for the Indie Game contest just now.

Thank you!
I'll be checking periodically through the day as well, so last minute entries, as long as your descriptions and images are decent, don't fret.

Thank you! I just finished the profile for Beneath the Mossy Stone, so hopefully that'll be approved soon.
Glad I was able to get the updates to my game in for the deadline! Good luck to everyone!

Games I want to play (review?), so far:

Remnants of Isolation. Mostly because of the development team behind it.

Tirawrmisu. If the game is as humorous as I think it is, I should have an absolute blast with it.

There was at least one more I was looking at earlier that looked cool. I thought it was supposed to be made for this contest, but, I don't recall the name of it right now.
So the People's Choice technically has started? Or is there an issue with it, because the only way you might vote is with the like button? That can't be it because there are technically two buttons, facebook and twitter, and a separate award for getting the most likes so... hmmm. I guess more waiting is necessary!?

It's not a terrible game. lol. The art and music are amazing. I should probably write reviews but I'm too lazy.
Nah man don't worry, I respect the honesty!

Yeah, I also should make reviews of the contest games I've played... Maybe after a few days. We all deserve a little break after this, I think.

Well, you might as well start with mine :P I mean, I'd really like that 4 or 4.5 you've promised you're the only one to have given feedback so far. uhhh. yeah! Kidding. Yeah, I hope to do some reviewing of the contest entries that I've played as well.

Also, I worked on my entry alone, not counting Seiromem because he's my brother and just was here to assist with some mapping(although that is some help so not exactly alone), but who else worked alone? The main entries I've seen are duos and teams. Maybe a few single developers but I can't remember.
Yellow Magic
Could I BE any more Chandler Bing from Friends (TM)?

I was the sole developer on my team, but I'd be lying like a rug if I said my beta testers didn't count as much as myself.

Right, same here. I had five core testers. You're not alone in that regard!

I would have more makerscore If I did things.

Very nice sentence.

Yes, discount the owl! It's not like I created the map the entire first (and only) level was on! I deserve more credit! I'm not appreciated enough!

Well, if the way to success is doing my own work then SO BE IT!

I've heard a lot of people complaining that they were meant to work alone, or that they're the only ones pulling weight on their team. I used to think that way too, but this month has taught me so much about game development and teamwork that I had to go back and rethink my previous philosophy.

I'm starting to think it's more about your team than it is about wanting to work alone. I was lucky enough to be on an awesome team that was just as hardworking as I was. Perhaps even more.

Me and Seiromem are joking with each other ;). I'm happy for the help, I didn't actually work completely alone :P. May everyone know I'm not upset I didn't "work alone". :P

Edit: Sorry Red_Nova.

I was referencing the many different statuses, posts, and such over the past month. I wasn't talking about you or anyone specifically.

CRAP! I forgot to submit my entry here.
Is it okay if I put up the link now?

I think it's about finding the right team to work with, too ^_^ People who are open-minded, can compromise, but still are passionate about making the best game that they can. Of course, the drive to get everything done is essential, too.

Thanks for being awesome like that, Red! ^_^
