Description

First and foremost, thanks to Archeia_Nessiah for the wonderful event page CSS!

Make the spookiest Halloween game ever for your chance to win a 100-dollar Steam Gift Card and other prizes!



All Hallows' Event 2013 is upon us! You have until October 31st at 11:59 PM UTC to make a complete game in any engine based on one or more of the following themes:

- Ghost Stories
- Survival Horror
- Monster Attack
- Halloween Comedy
- Nonfiction Horror

Each of these themes is fairly broad, and you can combine one or more themes! Just please let us know in your game description which theme(s) you are focusing on.

A panel of judges will play each game and rank the top three entries. Users may vote for their favorite game once the contest is over; voting will be handled through this page. Results will be announced via podcast.


Step 1: Sign up for the contest in the "Registration" section below this event description. You can enter this event solo or as a team. Additionally, you may submit as many games or join as many teams as you'd like.
Step 2: Create your game page. Normal submission rules apply.
Step 3: Post your download to the game page once it's approved.
Step 4: Submit your game download to the contest by using the commands on the upper-right corner of this page.

  • The game must be relate to at least one of the five themes: ghost stories, survival horror, monster attack, Halloween comedy, or nonfiction horror. Unsure if you game meets the theme? Just ask!
  • You may use ANY game development engine.
  • Only completed games are allowed! NO DEMOS!
  • Preexisting resources may be used, but no games that were started before the beginning of the event are allowed.
  • No late submissions; the deadline is strictly 11:59pm UTC on Halloween (October 31, 2013). Exceptions may be made if judges find a game-breaking bug.
  • No team limit.
  • You may submit as many games and join as many teams as you'd like.
  • Judges' entries will not be ranked, but they will still quality for the voters' choice achievement.
  • All necessary files must be included in the download.
  • Only one of each prize is available - please take this into account if you're on a team.
  • If the winner does not want a prize, s/he will pass it to the 2nd place winner, and so on, until we find a person who wants it.
  • All of RMN's normal policies apply.

Almost going to complete the game. with a ton of complication. Afterward I think I will make a remake on episode 1. And also Episode 2 of Town of Illustive if episode 1 is popular enough.

ugh....I keep on running into unique bugs. I hope I can get my game done mechanically.

@Redd I assume that we need to have our gamepage prepared in advance, so a quick on-time submission would be no problem.

Can I have my download submitted even if there is no valid link. So I can set up the real download quickly.

It's better to submit your gameprofile earlier, so that you have a higher likelyhood of a submission manager accepting it. Once accepted, you can add your download at the last minute and submit it here no problem.

Well I already set up the gamepage in the second day of the event. and it was approved! http://rpgmaker.net/games/5592/
The only problem is the download submission. Since I won't be really be online by Wednesday until November 1.

Edit: I also started the "Don't blame the game, Blame the player" Campaign since it really is a great opportunity to show that video game isn't really bad and dangerous but on how the player is actually is the fault for doing such Illegal and dangerous acts which cause media to say is the video game fault in the first place.
I will only show the warning screen on game that is focus for adult and teenager and some other dangerous stuff that the game might contain.

Why the developer of GTA5 didn't thought of that in the first place.

Isn't that one of the reasons why the ESRB rating exists?
The idea (proven wrong) of a correlation between video games and real acts of violence has been around since the Atari era.
GTA5 is rated M for players aged 17 and older only. If kids and minors play the game, blame the parents for buying it or the shop clerk for selling it to them.

I'll be around most of the day on the 31st to accept submissions, but please try to get them up by the 30th in case of a last-minute denial. Also, please give up to 48 hours for game submissions to be accepted, as I am quite a busy fellow :) After that, you can nag me all you want.

I know, after my experience with Fire Woman, that I will not be able to make a game within 5 days.
I fucked up. I didn't get the tileset. Didn't plan the game. Didn't even join the contest.
I don't know whether this was procrastination, school, laziness, or lack of ideas. They are all really excuses however. If I try, I obviously won't make it within 5 days if I plan to make it a GOOD game.
I apparently even missed another mapping contest. :(

My entry should be available a few days after the deadline.

Also, this is such a fun event! Kudos to the RMN staff, judges and everyone else involved in making these events happen ;)

I took the week off work for Halloween anyway long before this event, so I have all Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to play!

Nearly done now anyway, just one more vision and I can start doing actual gameplay. I will be finished on time and it will be a freaking awesome little game!

And I will win. You hear that judges! I will win!
