Description

Welcome to the Arcade Heroes Community Project/Event. In Arcade Hero, you, the community make the arcade games. Once all of the games have been submitted (deadline August 1, 2013), Space_Monkey will combine them to make a playable business simulator where you are the arcade owner with a catalog of games made by the community.

When finished, arcade owners will spend their hard earned coins to unlock and buy games from the submissions to put in their arcades.

Rules:

1. Do not talk about Arcade Club.Tell everyone you know.
2. Mak a gam in RPG Maker VX Ace. You can use VXAce Lite, a free version of VXAce.
3. Finish it by the deadline (AUGUST 1, 2013).
4. Submit a game alone or as a team.
5. Team can equal 1-infinity
6. Team cannot equal < 1
7. Try to make your game fit the world (8 bit-like).
8. Post what you are making so that we don't get 50 pac-mans.
9. Don't suck. I'll try to get a reward for the best ones.
10. Post the switches/variables you plan to use so we can keep a list of the ones that are taken/in-use displayed on the game page. ONLY TAKE WHAT YOU WILL NEED.
11. Try to limit your games to 10 events on a map. I'm not going to buy ace unless I have to.
12. Are you still reading? Go mak a gam champ.

Someone please consider buying VX Ace for him, the Lite limitations are doing my head in!

Agreed.

The 4 tileset issue is a big problem, since my game uses custom graphics. (And the tiles would look bad otherwise.) I can limit my tiles to A5 and B tiles if needed.

Do remember guys that variables and switches can be reset once a person exits your game.
Also remember that if you are using full VX Ace, you don't need to worry about the 10 event limit. Just make your game with as many as you need. When Space_Monkey copys it into his project, all of the events will work.

Steam has an offer on it. Check it out, Space_Monkey!

Can someone else please confirm this? Because if so, this'd be great.
Yes Ace has never been this cheap, there has never been a better time!

With scripting and no limitations imagine how our games based on games made with huge limitations will turn out!

So how is everyone doing?
I've finished unless I can improve the gameplay elements and collision detections with scripting?

Barely started. :|
I started today. I'm aiming for a "Pooyan" style game. I managed to get the basics down, we'll see how it fares from here on... xP

Here's the thing though. You're only allowed 4 tilesets in VX Ace Lite, so people who make their own tilesets are gonna have them erased.

I guess it would be wiser to use parallaxes(sp?) instead. This way we would only require an empty tileset, just with pasability settings.

It'd be nice if someone could upload a map here with more events than Lite allows (20 maybe?) for those of us who don't own Ace. =P

Ah, bummer! You can open the map on Lite but you can't edit the events... Oh well, 10 events will have to do. Thanks anyway. =P
Huh. That's odd. I thought it worked before...
Time for some fan-made 1944: The Loop MAAAAAAAAAAAAASTER!!!!, Oh wait... I'm still practicing how to make a top down flying shooter on RPG Maker and buy RPG Maker VX Ace because that game has 15 or 16 stages and it's very hard!
I couldn't even surpass the 10,000,000 High score, even if I was so close to surpass it at this score 968,498 with the Laser Charging attack at my disposal with my Wingmen and with my POW almost empty it's near impossible but it's possible.
I wasted a lot of real quarters and virtual quarters in MAME just to surpass that score. Well it's worth a try to make a game like that. So I'll give it a go.
If nobody opposes I would like to call dibs on variables 41-60 and switches 41-45. I will also be using 2 maps, 1-2 custom tiles, picture references 1-20(all of which will be cleared upon exiting the arcade game), and at least 2 animation slots. I'm hoping to get 2 games made, one is almost finished.

Also two of my variables will not reset when exiting the games because they are high score counters.

My proposed games are:

GIANT Lizardman from Outer Space: a classically simple arcade platformer
60-70% finished, it is after all just a 'mini game' and not a full on game project.

and

ARCADE MIXER 2: a game where you mix and serve drinks.

*please note that I haven't started the pixel conversions for the title screens, by the time they are done they should look much more 8-bit.
Looks neat. Don't worry about the switches and variables, though. Just reset them when people exit the game. (That's what I'm doing.)

That's a good idea.

I think I only need 3 or 4 variables for my game.
I'm running on about 30 variables and 20 switches :/
So, I'm done with my little game. I had to leave some things out that I would have liked to implement, but I ran out of events and I find working with pictures a bit too tedious. But for what it's worth, it vaguely resembles something enjoyable (for 8-bit standards anyway) so that will have to do. =P ...Now I'm just considering making a little logo for it, like giaks did for his games.
