Description

Welcome to the Arcade Heroes Community Project/Event. In Arcade Hero, you, the community make the arcade games. Once all of the games have been submitted (deadline August 1, 2013), Space_Monkey will combine them to make a playable business simulator where you are the arcade owner with a catalog of games made by the community.

When finished, arcade owners will spend their hard earned coins to unlock and buy games from the submissions to put in their arcades.

Rules:

1. Do not talk about Arcade Club.Tell everyone you know.
2. Mak a gam in RPG Maker VX Ace. You can use VXAce Lite, a free version of VXAce.
3. Finish it by the deadline (AUGUST 1, 2013).
4. Submit a game alone or as a team.
5. Team can equal 1-infinity
6. Team cannot equal < 1
7. Try to make your game fit the world (8 bit-like).
8. Post what you are making so that we don't get 50 pac-mans.
9. Don't suck. I'll try to get a reward for the best ones.
10. Post the switches/variables you plan to use so we can keep a list of the ones that are taken/in-use displayed on the game page. ONLY TAKE WHAT YOU WILL NEED.
11. Try to limit your games to 10 events on a map. I'm not going to buy ace unless I have to.
12. Are you still reading? Go mak a gam champ.

While mine is finished, I'm not satisfied that it's fun. I'll have one more go. Please can we do some scripting?
I take it we're clear to use the RMN music pack resources on this project?

So, I'm done with my little game. I had to leave some things out that I would have liked to implement, but I ran out of events and I find working with pictures a bit too tedious. But for what it's worth, it vaguely resembles something enjoyable (for 8-bit standards anyway) so that will have to do. =P ...Now I'm just considering making a little logo for it, like giaks did for his games.

I tried to make GLFOS as true to an arcade experience as possible. Complete with nonsensical story intro if you stay 'idle' at the title screen long enough.

Space_Monkey - Should we try to get people to test them or should we just submit them? I'm confident my game isn't to broken, but who doesn't start to think that way after hitting the play button hundreds of times...still I'm sure it's a little bit broken, just can't get away from bugs...

Also I have good news and bad news...
Good News:
GIANT Lizardman from outer space is in the final steps of production! Once I finish up adding sound effects to the game and pixelize the graphics it'll be ready to submit.

Bad News:
Cancelling Arcade Mixer 2...it was a neat idea and someday may come to light, maybe even before Arcade Hero gets officially released. This still leads to good news though! Now I'm only using 1 map.

Solar Platypus is on its way! I just need to make a few more levels.
That looks awesome! I'm excited to see how everybody's games turn out. This was a fun exercise in limitation for sure.

(speaking of...I'm not sure if VX Ace lite has limitations on animations, I used 121 and 122 I think...those may need to be adjusted in the final product)
I think I will not make it, I'm sorry! I got with something else, and well... got way more exhausted than expected. A full RPG Maek weekend was a little tiring xD...

And I feel way more guilty considering that I entered to this activity way before the other one...
So, I can only offer you all my sincere apologies, and the best of luck to the rest of participants.

Procrastination and employment opportunities got in the way of this, so I won't make it before the deadline either.
I totally didn't try to make this for Lite. I used a HUD script (thanks Fomar!) and some other minor things. I also have like a bajillion events.
If I work through the day I'll make it in time.

I totally worked within Lite's restrictions, but it might not seem like it.

Also, Space_Monkey, there are some specifications in the game itself that you will need to edit to make it work. I'll PM you them once I finish.
I'm basically free the rest day, if anyone would like help.
If i had known that you could ignore the Lite restrictions, then I would've actually made a game. I was more like, "10 events? stuff that".

I rarely pay attention to "rules" (I mean, ask halibabica and the other judges of Super RMN Bros events. They can attest to that.)

(sadly, my rationale was that space_monkey has been MIA for the past week or so, so my faith that the final project gets made at all waned, thus I decided to try to make a game that could stand on its own two feet)
Wow, only 4 games? Rather surprising.

My game is in dire need of a patch. (which I have made) However, I don't know how to update my file on here?

Can you load the patch into your locker? and link it here?
Aw, just four entries? I was hoping there would be more. =/ ...Anyway, I gave these games a try and here are my first impressions:

I don't understand what do I have to do in GLFOS. How do I score points? I just jump smiles around for a while until I get mobbed. =(

I've gotten my ass handed to me several times in A Wizard's Quest, but I hope this is just me playing bad. Although, wasting an Attack buff or casting a spell only to do 3 Hp damage when the enemies have hundreds of HP make me think that there's a serious balancing problem as well... Also, too much text for an Arcade game. I don't want to read, I want to rake points! =P

I managed to beat SolarPlatypus with a score of 14760. (I might try again latter) It was a fun little game with a nice difficulty curve, but I was kinda disappointed that it ended just like that. I could have kept going if the levels just looped.

Also: Yay, Badge!
Yeah, I'm trying to balance it out a bit. (Did you install the patch I just posted?)
In GLFOS - Shift is attack X is jump

...or should be. If you let Lizardman cross the screen during the title, the intro will play after which a screen with controls pops up as well as credits. I know it doesn't make a lot of sense to throw that in there, that's just how I always remember the Arcades being, with crazy intro's that barely made sense.

Maybe only four games, still I think they are all quality.
@Arandomgamemaker: Not yet, I'll try again with the patch later; I'm a little burned out right now. =P ...Will my current save still work?

@giaks: Ah, Shift, right. I never think of Shift as a 'main' key. =P ...It's fun to go around burning slimes, and the title screen is awesome, btw; overall the graphics are pretty cool. My only true complaint is that sometimes the slimes spawn right below you and it's impossible not to take damage. I managed to get a score of 3356 before I got killed this way. =(
The update is mostly bug fixes. I also made it so waiting restores 2 HP instead of 1. You also now naturally regnerate AP.

You might want to restart, due to the fact that I increased Dgaro's starting ATK by 2.
I hope to try out the games soon, but I have stats, featured game, dev spotlight, Ace giveaways, donation rewards to apply, writing spotlight, and development hot topics to do today!
