Description

Welcome to the fifth installment of the beloved community puzzle game: Befuddle Quest 5: Zack to the Future Using a specific product, RPG Maker 2003, we will each make a single map puzzle using RTP OR your own supplied graphics (that mesh with RTP) and I will link them together in a quest. Why RM2k3? Because it's accessible to the majority of people and because it's pretty easy to link maps together using it. Plus, I'm running the show and that's what I use (because I'm old). Also, that's what we used last 4 times and it worked out okay.

For those of you new to the BQ scene, check out this game: Befuddle Quest, or this game: Befuddle Quest 2: Charmed & Dangerous! or this game: Befuddle Quest 3: Love is a Four-Legged Word

TIMELINE ::..
Starts: August 3rd, 2010
Submission Deadline: August 23rd, 2010 @ Midnight
Release Date: Early September, 2010

STORY ::..
Imagine this: So, Zack and Broomhilda are visiting the local fair, right? And there is a demonstration of a new teleportation device, okay? Zack tries it out at the insistence of Broomhilda, and it works great! So Broomhilda tries...and something goes awry and Broomhilda is zapped away! Now Zack must travel after Broomhilda THROUGH TIME to save her!

Original, no?

RULES ::..
You must use RM2k3
You can submit as many puzzles as you like
Each submission must use only 1 map
No battles or common events or items or pretty much most of the Database
No instant Game Overs (restart the puzzle instead)
No Teleport events - use Recall to Memorized Position
If you aren't using the standard RTP, INCLUDE YOUR RESOURCES
The hero is Zack, the first default hero in RM2k3
No Teleport events - use Recall to Memorized Position

SUBMISSION ::..
Before the deadline, zip or rar up your project, upload it somewhere (say, your locker!) and send me a link to the file (either in a PM or here in this event). Make as many puzzles as you like. Multiple submissions are allowed (and encouraged!).

Please include with your submission:
The RM2k3 project
The coordinates of the ENTRANCE and EXIT points on the map
Puzzle name
A brief description of the puzzle
A detailed walkthrough (in a PM, or a text file in the submission folder)
Puzzle difficulty
Any special notes or issues you think I need to know to link the map into the game

I'm not opposed to using extra music, sounds, pictures, chipsets or charsets, as long as it fits with RTP (and they're included with the submission). If you have special tileset rules, let me know.

NOTES ::..
As before, this game will be about the puzzles, but feel free to take the story in bold new directions! I can make almost anything work within the confines of the story.

Also, feel free to use any variables or switches you like - I will reset them to 0/OFF between each puzzle.

@Pokemaniac or Desmo- If either of you are wanting to start a community event for XP, I would be willing to help you guys :) Or participate, I think a community rmxp game would be good (for people like me who don't buy the other programs and really want to do a community event!)
You have piqued my interest, Evergaurd. I might just try a community project that runs in XP or VX.

Thank you so much, if you come up with one for XP. You have my eternal thanks (in a metaphorical sense)

Idida: System 4 is an RTP file. if you can't find the original one, just put a replacement in the game's system folder.

It may forever remain a mystery but that said man was a genius. *sheds a single tear*
ON GAME STRUCTURE ::..
I intended this game be a free roaming game like BQ4, rather than a linear game like BQ1~3. I envisioned that, after the opening sequence where Broomhilda is zapped away, Zack would be free to use the teleportation device to go to any "time" or "dimension" to play puzzles.

In BQ4 you got gold, and after amassing enough gold you could finish the game. You did not have to finish all the puzzles to complete the game - you just had to amass enough gold. Hard puzzles rewarded you with more gold than "easy" puzzles. For BQ5...what do we collect? Dilithium crystals? Rescue other people at the fair? I haven't decided (or really thought about it deeply) yet. Perhaps when the teleportation device malfunctions EVERYONE watching gets sucked in a zapped to other dimensions and Zack has to rescue everybody! Or maybe you have to collect enough crystals in these dimensions to power the machine to take you to Broomhilda.

One thing I was toying with was the idea that there are a set number of time zones, and in each "zone" there would be a handful of puzzles. Like, if a few people submitted Old West puzzles, they would be grouped in a Old West zone, and then when you complete all the puzzles in that zone, that person trapped there would be freed. Once X many people are freed, you could complete the game.

Or something to that effect.

If people have any ideas or suggestions, that would be welcome.
A set number of timezones is a great idea actually. We should create some lists and have people sign up for a category.

As for collection... Perhaps he messes up his own present by time traveling and you have to change enough stuff in the past in order to repair your own time. Maybe.
Well, my philosophy for BQ is reactive rather than prescriptive, so I will not come up with premade zones and have people sign up. I will instead see what I get and make something of it!
As for currency, I'd go for something as simple as collecting crystals to power up the machine.

As for time zones... that'd be cool, but most people will use RTP, so I don't know if that would work. Unless we prepare in advance a small collection of chipsets/charsets representing different time zones, just as guidelines... so we can keep some consistency.

I put in a replacement but then it said somin else was missing... so i replaced that but it kept going on for awhile.

In the end I said screw it, deleted rm2k3 and redownloaded it. Should've done that in the first place...

Like the idea of multiple time zones.

These are great. :D
Nice original storyline kentona. It's better than what they did with Chrono Trigger. OH WAIT.

In other news. HOLY SHIT BACK TO THE FUTURE I love that movie, I just might join this one too :D
I might join this, but I have alot of trouble distributing my work..... *sigh*
And another problem is I would need a tileset for the time that I want to do.

It would be nice if someone would make a puzzle for each known time period and everyone else follow that idea, making puzzle for whatever time zone. Say the person makes a Caveman one, then a Old West one, then a Future one(In cases really small) Someone could make a puzzle for one of those periods of time. I like the Idea of having specific time zones, it's alot easier for me so I know exactly what I should work on.

And considering the discussion on other community events, I would like to join in, I have a idea of what the main purpose and storyline could be, I could write the script, it's my favorite part of rpg making.
Yes another for an XP event, maybe!
Thank you outcry, you might want to talk to Marrend. He showed the most intrest in actually hosting the event, but any help is welcomed! :)

Or plutonium.
Nope, sorry, too late
Actually, I think it's OK for anyone to sign up right up to the deadline date, but it's up to kentona (I think he'll say yes).
