Description

Welcome to the fifth installment of the beloved community puzzle game: Befuddle Quest 5: Zack to the Future Using a specific product, RPG Maker 2003, we will each make a single map puzzle using RTP OR your own supplied graphics (that mesh with RTP) and I will link them together in a quest. Why RM2k3? Because it's accessible to the majority of people and because it's pretty easy to link maps together using it. Plus, I'm running the show and that's what I use (because I'm old). Also, that's what we used last 4 times and it worked out okay.

Starts: August 3rd, 2010
Submission Deadline: August 23rd, 2010 @ Midnight
Release Date: Early September, 2010


STORY ::..
Imagine this: So, Zack and Broomhilda are visiting the local fair, right? And there is a demonstration of a new teleportation device, okay? Zack tries it out at the insistence of Broomhilda, and it works great! So Broomhilda tries...and something goes awry and Broomhilda is zapped away! Now Zack must travel after Broomhilda THROUGH TIME to save her!

RULES ::..
You must use RM2k3
You can submit as many puzzles as you like
Each submission must use only 1 map
No battles or common events or items or pretty much most of the Database
No instant Game Overs (restart the puzzle instead)
No Teleport events - use Recall to Memorized Position
If you aren't using the standard RTP, INCLUDE YOUR RESOURCES
The hero is Zack, the first default hero in RM2k3
No Teleport events - use Recall to Memorized Position

SUBMISSION ::..
Before the deadline, zip or rar up your project, upload it somewhere (say, your locker!) and send me a link to the file (either in a PM or here in this event). Make as many puzzles as you like. Multiple submissions are allowed (and encouraged!).

Please include with your submission:
The RM2k3 project
The coordinates of the ENTRANCE and EXIT points on the map
Puzzle name
A brief description of the puzzle
A detailed walkthrough (in a PM, or a text file in the submission folder)
Puzzle difficulty
Any special notes or issues you think I need to know to link the map into the game


I'm not opposed to using extra music, sounds, pictures, chipsets or charsets, as long as it fits with RTP (and they're included with the submission). If you have special tileset rules, let me know.


NOTES ::..
As before, this game will be about the puzzles, but feel free to take the story in bold new directions! I can make almost anything work within the confines of the story.

Also, feel free to use any variables or switches you like - I will reset them to 0/OFF between each puzzle.

You still haven't explained how the economy puzzles aren't puzzles.
Scarlet Facade was definitely a puzzle. kentona even said "This is a fun and frantic puzzle! Dodging the zombies in town was a lot more fun than you'd think, and the final battle is even more so! " It was just a puzzle with a (horrible) ABS attached.

And yeah, Befuddle Guns wasn't a puzzle, but the creator submitted another level that was definitely a puzzle with it. =P
The point is not that people are wrong for not making puzzles, is that levels that aren't exactly puzzles are apparently acceptable.

I wouldn't call dodging a puzzle.

So, will this have a level skip option for sissies who get too befuddled? Just wondering.
So, there is about 1 week left for submissions! How are things going everyone? So far I have only 1 submission, so unless more get submitted its going to be a pretty short game!

Since i have to restart the puzzle when the player fails i was going to teleport the player to the start... but i read the Rules and im not aloud to do that... 2 Questions:

1) Why?

2)What will Recall to Memorized Position do? Will i have to set the position first?

Oops that was 3 questions... Eh.
1) Because teleport events use Map ID to work, and your map will not have the same ID in the group project (since everyone's map will be added one by one by me)
2) Its like teleport, but you get to control the variables.
3) Yes, set a variable to the hero's current map id, and have 2 more variables, X and Y, to set a position on your map.

Problem:

In my puzzle theres "barriers" that get destroyed. Ive used erase event for all of them.
However since erase event only gets undone when the player leaves the map and i need them to reappear when the puzzles restarted ill need to teleport the player to a new map then back.
Can i do that or will it be easier if i just made a Switch for each barrier and turned them back off when the player fails?

Don't erase the event just make it invisible and untouchable and then to turn it back on you reset the switches and variables.

Yeah was gunna do that just thought other way was easier... meh ill use switches
Urk. I REALLY wanted to make a submission but I've been super busy since I am leaving tomorrow (actually today now that it's past midnight) for a 3 week trip to China and I didn't have a change to make a puzzle... :(

Maybe next time? Or maybe if I'll still have a chance to submit one late... I get back Sept. 12. Anyways, g'luck to you all.

Depends on how long it takes for me to get my act together! I was hoping to have this finished by the 6th of September, but who knows?
