Description

Welcome to the Mini Music Challenge, wherein participants will compose a piece a music that conforms to the requirements and theme (once revealed). After the submissions deadline, we will all listen to the submissions and vote for a winner!

The last one went over so well I thought I thought I'd do another quick one.

  • This event will consist of a single phase.
  • Participants will be able to sign up and submit their works anonymously using this event page.
  • Votes will be counted and published at end of the event. The person to receive the most votes wins.
  • The composers will have approximately 2 weeks to compose their piece. This will be followed by a short voting period.
  • MP3 is the preferred format, but MIDI and OGG are also acceptable.
  • The composition must be a new and original piece composed specifically for this event.

Short but Effective
There was an ulterior motive for naming this the Mini Music Challenge. For your submission, you are required to keep your piece to 2 minutes or less in length! Can you convey your desired musical aesthetic under this artificial time constraint? You're free to use any kind of instrumentation and sources of sounds you wish.

Riding the Airship!

Let's go to far-off places, and search for treasures bright! Our heroes have obtained an airship and are cruising around the world in an exhilarating flying machine, flowing through the skies with the greatest of ease! But is your RPG a high fantasy? Perhaps it is a steampunk airship? Or maybe it is a futuristic flying device?

Good luck to all the participants!

11 for the win!
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
How'd I miss this? And there's no way I can properly listen and vote tonight or tomorrow D:
Extend that deadline until Friday night!

Just listen to 11, and you'll be done.
My vote is #6. It's more like a modern JRPG airship song, where you float along while selecting a destination rather than zipping across a 2D map, but it's a great fit for that. I like the airy piano.

Some other comments:
#2 - Could be a mountain climb or epic battle song.
#4 - Very nicely written, but it's more like the "nostalgic memory" theme from the last contest. With different instruments and a beat I think it could fit the theme.
#8 - Promising intro that lasts too long and never really gets anywhere.
#12 - Very nice, similar to #6 but more like a serene forest than an airship. This was my second choice.
#14 - The drums start out nice, and the piano is a good component for the theme, but in the end the song doesn't pull together.
#20 - You're awesome.
#22 - Nice, but doesn't quite have that "epic journey" sound.
#23 - Good effort for Mario Paint Composer.
#25 - It's good after the harsh string intro, but it manages to bridge the "floaty" and "epic" variations of this theme without really committing to either.

Its very good and its very Zeldaish an its what im voting for...
I really like Participant #38's Entry 11, it has great mix of instruments and brings an adventurous airship theme, especially the first half of the piece. My vote goes to it.
Votes are revealed, and the winner is shown (there's a little icon).

Time to make a post that reveals the participants... hang tight.

Congratulations, Kunsel!
Thanks everyone! I worked really hard on it and I'm glad that that paid off!

Good job to everyone that entered the contest, there were some great entries!

Anyways, I'm glad that everybody liked it, and if there's another contest I'll be happy to compete again!
Congrats Kunsel! And congrats Athenium for our tie for second place!

Lately I've been doing nothing but chiptunes; it's great to find out I can be competitive with a GM soundfont too. It's inspired me to reconsider midis instead of mp3s for my current RPG project.

Thank you to everyone who voted for me! :)

That's the spirit ;)
Well done everybody, especially Kunsel who won!

I'm new here, this event actually was what attracted me to this site. Although I didn't get any votes I'm glad you guys enjoyed it, even if it didn't sound like an airship theme to all.

I actually challenged myself to see what I could do within one hour, and that's all I spent on it :). I hope there are more challenges like this to come, next time I'll use the couple of weeks to complete it instead. Also I plan on extending my Airship theme :).

Nice to meet ya's.

I can't believe I got 0 votes. I worked for like 30 minutes on mine.
okay it was less than that.
0 votes for me too. Comments were funny though.

Mine reminded someone of 'Earthbound' and the rhythm's 'adaptive'. Not sure if those things are good.
Lol'd @MrChearlie's review.
And I have no idea what you meant by 'Tom's Variety Store' Dudesoft, unless it's supposed to be some kind of inside joke. :/
The same here, Dudesoft review of mine really made my day XD
I really hate guitar pro instruments and when combine music box with vibrato, I say, Hey it doesn't sound bad and at the end it turns out to be that it really wasn't very good

I was being sarcastic ;)
It sounded half decent before I started cats, and after the pigs, I was past the point of no return...

I liked Kunsel's tune, but I think Wolfe's had a more airshippy feel to it.

Congrats on everyone that participated!

Only 30 people voted though, is that a lot? For those of you who've been around here longer than I have, how many people usually vote?
Congratulations Kunsel, it was great fun taking part and contributing to the community. Welldone to all those that entered and thankyou to all of you who voted.
