Description

What is this?
This is a game making event where we partner up in order to create two games per partner!

TWO games?! Are you mad?!
I don't think so? Oh, wait, that was a rhetorical question, right?

Anyway, it's a pretty simple premise. You start a game and work on it for one week. At the end of that week all the games are pooled and then distributed semi-randomly to each other. Then everyone finishes the games they are given over the next week.

Basically, a big swaparoo~

Rules
  • Sign up below. Make sure that you're dedicated for the whole two weeks/both parts of the event.

  • Games must be new and made only for this event.

  • You may use any RM engine. Sorry, while it is a neat idea in theory to use any engine, most people who sign up might not have experience in those engines, limiting the ability to finish the games.

  • If you only have access to a particular RM engine, please note that in the comment section so that I know to account for that when distributing the first half of the games.

  • Also, make sure to include an RTP stand-alone version of the game (and include resources) when passing it over so that your partner is not looking for different files to make it work.

  • When it comes time to submit, for the first half of the game upload the WIP to the event locker (accessed by Submit in the top corner).

  • First halves of games must be in by the time shown under the Details section after you add your time offset in the settings of your account. The Date End reflects this and will be changed when the second halves are handed out.

  • The second halves will be submitable by game page ONLY. Make a game page for your game whenever you like, just remember to update the information when the second creator comes into play.

  • To keep time realistic, aim for each half to have a half-hour of play at the most. This will make an hour-long game, which is pretty decent for 2 weeks. You can go over this amount, but remember that the longer the game, the less chance there is to finish it.

  • In the spirit of the event, don't be a back-seat driver to the second creators. They can take the game where they like - that's half the fun of the event. In fact, let's just say that you keep your fingers out of the game pie after it gets handed over. Make it something of a surprise, eh?

Achievements?
As always, there's badges to consider~
Started in the Middle with You - 30MS - Received at the end of the event for those who started a game and had it completed.
Ended in the Middle with You - 30MS - Received at the end of the event for those who finished a game.
Meshing the Middle with You - 20MS - Given to the game that feels like a concerted effort to create a whole piece.
Mashed in the Middle with You - 20MS - Given to the game that is a mess of mashing together the elements.
Beyond the Middle, it's True - 50MS - Given to the overall best game of the lot, as judged by our panel of select cherry-pickers.

Yeah, I don't get it. Mine's VX Ace. With all the assets mine comes with, I was actually surprised it was only 110 MB. I did a basic RTP game in the MV trial, and it was something 355 MB.

That's going to be an issue for people. Anyone using MV who wants upload a serious game with decent playtime is going to have to put their downloads offsite.
MV has a highly uncompressed file size. The newest version compressed them a bit so that they're not quite as large, though, so if you have the steam version make sure you updated to it and it shouldn't be quite so heavy - you'd have to make a new game and copy the RTP files in it over to your one.
I thought I trimmed the fluff, but after attacking with MV Stripper, it's down to a far friendlier 221MB. (Too bad updated MV's built-in trim only works on deployed games. X_X) Much better! Thanks, you two~!

I know what you mean. my main game is pushing 1.5GB and it only has about 1.5 hours of play in it... Yay for MV Stripper!

To be fair, that's half what he initially had, so... it is a lot friendlier in comparison. XD

That's exactly what worries me.
Yeah, MV doesn't seem to do "small" very well at all... blah. And this game wasn't even using fancy custom-everything graphics either.

my mv project is only ~130, and i threw in EXTRA music files for the next person in case they want to use them... and i thought that was big
It's really the animation graphics, sound files and www folder that bloats it to hell. Oh, and second monster folder full of images (if you're not using sideview, get rid of that).

Oh btw I can use RM2k, RM2k3, RMVX Ace, and MV. I prefer 2k/3 but any of those 4 should be fine. VX too but I dunno if anyone made a game in VX.

Almost ready just a little bit more!
I'm getting close to finishing my half.

Again, as a small reminder, I can only use VX Ace, 2003, and 2000, all official versions.

EDIT: Well, this sucks, but I've lost some crucial data from my game. Luckily, the main town is still completed, but I've lost the data for some monsters and the first dungeon. Stupid laptop!

So whoever gets my project, you'll have to create the dungeons yourself. I would remake the first dungeon, but I'm practically out of time.

So, yeah, And right as I was saving my stuff, my laptop decided to derp out on me! I need to remind myself to save often, especially when I'm working gruesomely.

I am very pleasantly surprised at the amount of half-games submitted! Keep up the pace; just a few more hours left :DDDD

Oh, I mentioned early on that I have 2k, 2k3, XP, and VX Ace. I should also mention that I have only opened XP once and haven't touched it since, so it would probably be a bad idea to give me an XP project.

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

Oh, right. I've said I have VXAce and XP. But I have XP on a computer I only have access to during weekends, so I'd also rather not get an XP project.

Although, if I did get an XP project, I would certainly do my best with it, and it would certainly be a learning experience.

Getting down to the wire. Wish I had put more time into this, but I discovered the joys of ARK on steam. :(
I own and can use VX, Ace and MV fairly well. I think I've got XP on Steam, but keep in mind that I have never touched that engine. I also hate MV more than any engine, but I guess I can still make a small game with it. Just don't expect too much from me if I do get a project in that engine. VX and Ace are personally my baes though. :)

EDIT: will there be a small break before we all start working on our second halves?

I totally want to get either Craze's, Unity's, or Libby's project, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get 'em considering I'm always the unluckiest at raffles. :P
