Description

People have been shouting for an event of some sort and now it happens. It's the traditional biennial Weekend Gamemaking Disco Binge. Pick out your favourite disco tunes and make those games!

Basics about the event
The idea is to have a quickie weekend filled with gamemaking fun (and the nasty horrors of gamemaking and staying up all night staring at a strobe light trying to get inspiration). The themes are Disco and Fire.

How you incorporate these themes are entirely up to you. You may only pick one of the themes but it's a lot more awesome if you incorporate both. It is after all about fun and games so don't cut those wrists over it if it doesn't quite work out. Even the most liberal interpretation of the themes is most likely to go through (but don't tell anyone I told you that. It's a secret)

Rules
* The event starts on Friday the 28th of January 2011. It ends some time on Monday the 31st (of January 2011). Try to get your entries in before February at least.
* The entry must be stand alone and playable on a Windows 7 machine. If I need to download the latest Unity3d engine or fiddle with DosBox to make this entry run then you better be including it in the installation package with instructions.
* Submit entries through the event submission system. Or post a link to them in the comments. Or send them on a USB taped to a carrier pigeon. The most important part is that entries need to get to me. You are allowed to update your entries up until the deadline.

Those are the hard and fast rules. Then there are
Guidelines
* You are allowed to use any resources you have. Even if you aquired them through dubious means. (just don't tell me you aquired them dubiously. I knew nothing of this.)
* Though even if you are allowed to use any resources it's always nice if you credit any and all sources. Either in-game or in a readme/credits file.
* I accept bribes. PM Shinan if you want paypal information or a postal adress to send your gifts to.
* Yeah before you ask. Obviously RPGmaker games are accepted. Just because I used Unity and dosbox in my examples doesn't mean you have to go all weird and techy. It was a joke.
* The bribe thing was not a joke though. Honest.

Yay, now I'm groovier and breezier than all of you.
I sexified the logo (using the above image) and also doled out achievements for this.
the pictures look the same
This is quick and dirty but any chance this (or something better) could be put on the events listing page?

The text link looks out of place next to all of those pictures.

w...woah ocean you did it old friend. i'm so glad.
Nice job Ocean. Yours was really fun and cheery to play and it was a pretty unique twist to the fire theme.

Actually, I think everyone's was really fun to play. It was great to see so many differing kinds of games!
Congratulations Ocean :D Your technical proficiency with rm2k3 is actually kinda scary :P

Yeah this was a fun event. Shame that a couple people had to pull out.

Can't wait to see your extended breakdown of the judging procedure Shinan :P
Congrats to all contestants, especially to Ocean for winning!

This contest was actually pretty fun, since all contestants would hang out on #rpgmaker.net and share there desperate worries about the deadline. It's also cool to see 4 completely different games within the same contest/theme.

I've played them all already. Sent a comment about Stayin' Alive, posted a review to The Sound of Flames, and I'm yet to finish Rubi. :)

Woaaahh, awesome! And yeah, I think all of them were very different which was nice! I'll definitely look forward to an extended critique too.

wait for it...

no seriously wait for it...

blink and you'll miss it...

Rubi
Congratulations!

Overall all the games were very different! They all had some pretty damn creative ideas going on and although some failed a bit more than others they all get a thumbs up from me. (and that's not just because you bribed me). I haven't written but I could probably provide some extended critiques as well. But I can't be bothered at this moment because I'll leave you all in the dark as to my selection process. And if you want to I could even try to write enough to make it a proper review.

But now's time for some party party party. At the Copacabana!
I updated my game adding a highscore script.

To be fair to the contest, I upload the original version to my locker:
http://rpgmaker.net/users/calunio/locker/die2dance_old.rar

The difference is minimal though. But still...
Thanks for the debug Shinan :P I'm pending on a fixed version of the download now.

But NO.. It actually won't make a difference whatsoever.. it's just that I used RMTool and it purged 2k3-specific files (even though they weren't used).

Thanks a ton, Shinan for adding that and letting me know. Somehow I always forget to add that line.

Also game profile is up and running.
My gameprofile is up, and my download there is pending. I'm pretty sure there are no bugs or incompatibilities in it, so I don't think I'll have to release another download.

Shinan hope you got that paypal "message" I sent you. :D
hohohoho awesome turnout. Time to download and ignore the games for a day and then... Disco time. I guess keep checking this page since I'll be posting if for some reason a game doesn't work for me (so you can fix it or help me fix). A bit of post-deadline fixing never hurt anyone, right. Just look at Magicka.

EDIT: two games didn't run on the first try startup.

Stayin' Alive was missing "system2c". But I copied in an empty filed called system2c in the system2 folder and everything was good. I don't yet know if this will cause problems later on.

In The Sound of Flames the rpg_rt.ini was missing the "fullpackageflag=1" line that makes the game not complain that the rtp is missing. I added the line and the game opened fine.
In other news. This event could do with a logo (and achievements :D?) . It's the only one on the events page without one :(
Yeah. There's only so much locker space to use, after all.

To note, Liberty and I had our submissions up in that entries list there but removing the project to upload a fixed version took it out of there.

Also, I had the download link put on my game page and then it was approved later, but that is the same game file that I had posted here:
http://oceansdream.net/files/Rubi.rar
Update:

To get around pending time, here's a mediafire link:

http://www.mediafire.com/?stww1m13jhz322u

It was finished & submitted before 00:00 (GMT) Feb 1st though :P

Timestamp proof:

(I'd still prefer the link on this page to link to the download that'll be on my game profile, but what can you do eh?)
