WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW?
Posts
I waver between posting things recklessly without review and overanalyzing my posts to the point of abusing the edit button several times a minute (is this joke funny? too meta? will they get it? too diffident? too self-deprecating? too self-aggrandizing? am I being too honest and blunt for a random internet forum?)
...I need to get to reach the next level of posting - apathetic sarcasm, a.k.a. kentona tier.
I got along with people fairly well in high school, I think, but I'm still coming to terms with some of my parents' ridiculous baggage. I figure it's the same for a lot of people though, and it probably never really goes away. It sucks, but that's how it goes, huh?
EDIT: I'm still a little surprised that people even recognize me around here (specifically, in the game jam topic). I don't even make RPGs :P

Fair point, alterego. I suck at my own language so I can't imagine having to write in another, and coherently so.

Today on "The RMN Counseling Room:"
Interesting points, everyone! The more I read them, the more I feel like an exception to the general rule. Perhaps it was the 100+ death threats that did it for me, but I have a real hard time paying attention to what people around me say.
My social network is shockingly small now and only about two or three people in high school, so perhaps my viewpoint is a bit skewed. Even out of those slim pickings, I think only one of them even acknowledges that I make games.
Because of this, I tend not to care if people call me shit, but it gets to me a lot more when someone says my games are shit. That's all I meant.

English isn't my first language either, y'know? It happens fairly often that a medium-sized post takes me half an hour to an hour to write, and I occasionally have to look up words as well. Never mind that I often get the feeling I can't precisely express what I actually want to say.
It's not something that should stop you from posting, alterego. Your input is just as valuable as that of other people.
Dun dun dun.
Edit: Red_Nova, I don't care how many morons threatened you, I think you're real nice guy and a good game maker. Just so you know.
That said, most people aren't so bad when you get to talk to them personally. But thanks to the way the human brain works, it usually the most extreme examples we remember best, so it's easy to get the impression most humans are jerks. But they usually aren't, many are just good at seeming like it.

author=slashphoenixWell... I guess the games you made so far just look great on your resumé.

I honestly don't even remember how I got that game done... it feels like it was forever ago. Hell, it feels like it was forever since Mirror Boy. I really haven't released a game or even made a gamepage in like 6 months... too long...

Me too, I do exactly this! Although generally speaking when I post things recklessly without review it is generally apathetic sarcasm a la kentona.
@NeverSilent: Your English is way, way better than many native speakers. As a matter of fact, I had no idea it wasn't your first language.
alterego you were also passing flawlessly as a native english speaker, at least as far as I was paying attention.

wait...WHAT...? What on EARTH could have prompted 100+ death threats? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, obviously. I'm just an insatiably curious random.

99% of them are from my job. I work retail. Need I say more?
Outside of work, well, not much, actually. There was one time last year when the Tales of Symphonia Chronicles came out. I picked up the last copy of the collectors edition, and someone was going to stab me on my way to my car just to get it.
I need a new job.
Do death threats from elementary school bullies count? You can add at least 15 more to that list if so.
Anyways, it's not as bad as you might think. Just angry people saying things they don't really mean.

I didn't even notice this edit until Max's post! Thanks for this, NS!
...I kinda just want to bundle you all up into a giant hug. :<
I think something age brings to the table is not giving as much of a damn what people see of you on the internet. I used to be very cautious about how I acted and interacted with people. For example, I would never have posted that line above for fear of coming off as creepy or something. Now that I've seen a lot of what the internet has to offer and become a bit more jaded about other people, I realise that we're all imperfect beings and as such, having a bit of 'flavour' makes things interesting (though there is such thing as too much ;p ).
It tends to take time, though, to get out of the 'school' mindset and some people never really grow out of it. That's just fine, though.
I gotta say, being a part of a community where you watch people evolve over years is interesting.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

My God! My computer will never shut the fuck up! After last night, it's been making stuttering noises (must've pushed the poor bastard too hard with that demo of Torchlight II). I was able to get it to stop chirping by reconnecting one of the fans, but shit... It's about to go the way of:

What kind of "stuttering noises"? 90% of the time when a computer is making weird noises, it's just the fan that's bad. A new fan is like four bucks and can be replaced without any skill.

Speaking of jobs: A common 21st century ideal is "Doing the job you love"...but to be 100% honest, I think I could be working in freaking Atlus and still be miserable because of having to sit at a desk from 9:00 to 5:30 on weekdays.
Most of my fellow recent University graduate friends boast a lot about how amazing their jobs are. I know my current job is hardly the most exciting in the world (it's not even the job I agreed to take on!), but it pays much, much more than, like, 95% of graduate jobs here in the UK. There's no way in hell I could take a pay cut to get the more 'interesting' jobs my friends have got...so then, why do I feel so jealous..?

Because deep down you do want an "exciting" job but you don't have the courage to let go of your current pay cheque like they do, so you get jealous.

Because being a soulless cog in a machine all the way up to the point that you're forced to quit due to age or disability isn't how you envisioned your life?
You've gotta ask yourself, how much is your soul worth?
You've gotta ask yourself, how much is your soul worth?
author=ivoryjonesYeah, probably - but I like to think I'm also realistic: I actually had one of the more 'interesting' jobs last year and hated it - I don't want that to happen again. Also, my friends with the 'interesting' jobs all live with their parents, and I don't have that luxury so I've gotta pay the rent, bills and all that jazz on my own. In London that's no easy feat...

That said, I'm aware my current job is basically a career dead-end so I'm probably going to quit after I reach my savings target...the hit to my pay cheque's always going to leave a bad taste in my mouth, though :(
(By the way, I should point out that these 'interesting' jobs are all software development focused...you're not really into that yourself, are you? It's all subjective)
author=Corfaisus...it is the way I envisioned it, though. 99% of us are cogs in a machine, whether we want to admit it or not.

You've gotta ask yourself, how much is your soul worth?Enough to buy whatever video games I want, whenever I want and still have savings, I guess...

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.
