WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW?

author=kentonaC51 is a new act right, I mean Canada did pass a sort of PA back when the attacks happened but it expired due to lack of support after 5 or 6 years didn't it? I'm curious, was it the incidents in October 2014 that brought this bill into creation?
Bill C51 basically gives CSIS (Canada CIA) the ability to secretly ask a judge to violate the charter of rights and freedoms whenever they feel like it for very general and vague "promoting terrorism" and "disrupting the economy".

Every time I see it I'm reminded of the batter from that one game with the cat, but I know that can't possibly be it. Looks more like something from Donnie Darko.

Fuck Canada just passed it's own Patriot Act legislation, but a worse version of it.
Wow, I love living in this stupid country. Fuck sakes.

More importantly though, seriously Canada passed a Patriot Act clone? What are they thinking? It's pretty much proven to be a terrible law that restricts people's rights and completely demolishes the concept of due process. Canada doesn't even have the gut-punch reaction that the 9/11 attacks engendered to rationalise the passing of such a law.
Yeah, but we have Harper in charge of our country, so any "reaction" or "reasoning" is out the window.
I can't wait to be perfectly safe from the big bad boogeyman! Thanks Dear Leader!
author=nhubiauthor=Cap_HAs has been discussed in the NewGame+ thread, I've never been a fan of the dynamic, new content is always good but a restart from the beginning has never appealed. It's why I won't be posting in the + thread if we don't get to 1000 and this is closed. It's a small protest but it's the only one I can do, in the same way as I don't buy from companies that do something I disagree with or find unconscionable I don't give them my money, in this place I won't give the new thread my time.
1000+ is like New Game Plus then. I should grind in some other threads some more.
Every tried Lufia II? There's two NG+ features - one is double EXP/Money, which allows for certain bosses that are optional to be beaten. Once you complete this version then another NG+ appears - the BEST NG+ in any game ever!
Okay, so there's this dungeon in the game that can be accessed half-way through. It has 100 randomly generated floors. The second NG+ allows for this to be playable without going through the game AND lets you use your own choice of characters for your party - certain characters leave in the game during plot points so if you missed out on having x in the party (one of them leaves before you gain access to this place) then you can just pick and have them in it. It also gives you all the optional 'pets' that you can find in the game, too. Which is helpful because this dungeon ain't a joke if you're playing legit, no rom/scumsaving.
So this dungeon, aye? You go in on level 1 with 5 potions to your name. Everyone, every time. You then battle your way through the floors to the secret boss at the end who will defeat you in two turns if you don't defeat him instead.
Now there are only three ways out - dying is the easiest. Providence (an item you can get only one of each visit) will warp you out but you leave all but special stuff in the cave. Beating the boss is the way out.
I mention special stuff. Every red chest in the dungeon is random. You could get a potion. You could get the best armour in the game. You could get any spell in the game (it'll teach it to everyone who can use that spell). It's completely random.
Blue chests are where it's at, though. These are powerful equipment that can help you out and can be brought in time and time again - so instead of just 5 potions you could have 5 potions and a Sky Sword and some super armour/rings/etc.
Also, if you're a perfectionist there are 7 ultra-rare treasures to find - the Iris treasures. You get nothing from them bar a sense of accomplishment when you find them all but still, they're there.
Also? The game is fun and the story/characters are great. There's a great LP of it going on at the moment in the SomethingAwful forums. Oh, and puzzles galore - this game does puzzles wonderfully when it comes to dungeon design. And hidden treasures.
I also appreciate New Game + in Suikoden V since there's various endings - both good and bad. They let you keep certain treasures that are rare and battle stances and replace the chests with money if you already have the item in your pack. Hell, Suikoden IV had a fast-forward feature which was really, really, really appreciated since that game was horribly slow in a lot of areas.

Liberty, that sounds like it would be the 2nd NG that appeals to me, the ability to encompass new experiences within the existing world and be free to make choices denied before rather than restarting from the beginning. Like I said that particular playstyle never held much fascination for me.
:sigh:
My mum voted for him despite me begging her not to. Turns out she regrets doing so. Who knew that actually checking out what people stand for before the election process would be a good idea?
That said, I doubt his voters knew just how much of an idiot he would be. In fact, I doubt anyone knew. I mean, who expected his first move to be removing Ministers for science, education, women's shit and so-forth? Not me, and I was expecting it to go badly. :/

I know, I used to work for a lobbying organisation which dealt with pollies on pretty much a daily basis so I knew the sort of shenanigans they considered acceptable and the 'price of doing business' and even I didn't see that load of political expediency coming. Though I suppose given his attitudes towards progress, women, personal freedoms not to mention climate change we probably should have.
There's a reason people hate him so vehemently. I really wish the Queen would pull another 'Oh, no, you're an asshole. Time for a new leader~" like what happened way back but not likely. Elections will come soon enough and then the buffoon can go fuck himself... if the rest of us aren't swayed by the lies that spill from his ass. Please, God, anyone else.
Personally I vote the Sex Party. For the most part they have a decent agenda. I mean, you're never going to hit the jackpot with political parties but hey, at least I agree with most of their policies. :/ (Also, they got balls calling themselves that, especially in the current climate of 'oh sex is baaaaad'. I respect that.)
I just wish more people understood our voting system. (It does not always have to be Labour or Liberal, you fuckwits!) Most of the time they just vote for whoever, bar a couple of people. Like, stop being sheep and learn how our shit works, please! This stuff should be taught in school, ffs. :/
It's actually a decent system if only people would understand how to use it properly.

Oh I'm a vote below the line type, and I do my research. It's true we're not a two party system in that there is usually a minor third that get a few seats and then you throw the independent senators and other factions into the mix and you get a bit of a robust debate and the ability for a small group to have some influence. It's one of the things I like about the Parliamentary system, not to mention Australia's compulsory voting. Though the uniformity of ballots and the process is a big plus too. I think they do teach the basics in final year high school, but that's about the process, not the parties which is where all the intricacies lie.
I like the Sex Party too, they've got some interesting policies which appeal to me, but even though the name is fun and irreverent it actually does do them a disservice in the eyes of the wider community.
What you're looking for isn't Her Majesty, it's the Governor General, he gets to oust the current government if they've broken the rules...well actually a very small specific set of rules, and Abbott for all he's a twit is actually very canny. We're going to have to wait for the next election, that or a coup and I can't see that ever happening in Australia.

It'd be nice if we could get Labour/Liberal out of the system for a little while - get a smaller party a spot in the sun. Just need 51% of the votes. Never gonna happen, sadly. The closest recently to get that far was the One Nation party and fuck them.
Granted, it's been a fair few years since I was last at high school so things might have changed, but back then we didn't even get a small course in how the system works, let alone learning the names of any party that wasn't LnL. :<

Even my Dad has vowed to vote in the upcoming election, just to have a better chance at seeing Harper finally dethroned... Not that I think he'll ever lose an election. I think he's surgically grafted onto the country at this stage, but here's hoping for a fucking miracle.
This news was surprising to me, because my Dad violently hates politicians and usually doesn't even bother voting (because to him it doesn't matter in the end, they're all evil). That goes to show you the public image Harper has, at least in my family.

Oh Pauline as Prime Minister. I would have lead that never-going-to-happen coup myself.
Pizza, two words for you. Compulsory Voting.

Oh God, Pauline as PM. What is it about out female pollies? >.<;
Mind you, I wasn't part of the hate camp for Julia. I rather liked her to be honest.

I feel so old looking at the first page of this thread.
My..how time flies when we're all having fun.

I liked Julia myself. She came in in a bad way but the whole 'You deposed an elected Leader' bull was just that, we don't vote for a person, we vote for a party, they choose their leader, and they chose Gillard over Rudd. She was just too much for the electorate to bear I think. I mean she was female, unmarried, atheist and childless with the ability to modify her opinions over time (I'm thinking the same sex marriage issue) compared to the person she was replaced with male, married, religious and with children and probably one of the most stubborn politicians we've had in a while.
Though you are right we don't have a lot of luck with female pollies in federal positions, a few of the state ones haven't been too bad, they just don't seem to transition well.

It's super fun to work with found footage on an editing table. Discovering these forgotten pieces of someone else's work. You may recognize someone or something.
It's probly not the issue with digital footage, tho.

"This is all about control of the people...so that the corporate state can then trod on the rights of the citizens of a nation ...and rape the country of its resources without the citizens of that said country going against the governments trade agreements lest it be against the "economic and financial stability of Canada"
Which means if you protest a pipeline or fracking...your are deemed a terrorist against the state and its trade agreements with foreign entities."
Coincidentally, the censorship and copyrights agreement TPP is being fast tracked. The one that basically enshrines the rights of corporations over the public. Also, you can't forget about the recent selling out of our national resources to Chinese national interests.
This headlong sprint to fascism and cronyism is disturbing to say the least.
