I'm lucky in that the only time I go digging through the executable is to update my glyphs.

Owww that sucks! I absolutely hate taking damage on my hands, since they're my most appreciated body part followed by my eyes. Hopefully it's only a superficial/minor bruise and not something serious.
Rpg maker 2003 on steam got an update today, it's on version 1.11 now and as usual all of my projects got broken because of things they changed. Like i understand most of these are beneficial changes but still i hate converting my games to newer versions because that means scouting for bugs, missing files and errors.
Hm, what got broken? There should be nothing breaking really, the only things which have a non-backwards-compatible effect on the game are:
- The window transparency (now under "System" and not "Battle Screen") also affects the title screen and is also respected for battle layout A, but then, only on the map.
- The "item obtained" and "gold obtained" messages were slightly changed so that they put spaces between their parts correctly.
- The "Enemy Attack" sound now actually has a use (it was not played before, which was a bug).
So the only things which may happen to a game are that the "item obtained" message has one space too much, the enemies make a sound during attacking because there was a sound configured or that windows are half-translucent now which previously were not... but it shouldn't really break anything.
Can you explain what happened in your case?
EDIT: Or are you talking about patches or other inofficial modifications? They will be gone when you upgrade the engine, yes, but RM2k3 won't force the engine upgrade on you... you can just click "No" (possibly in combination with "Don't ask again").
I play one clicker/idle game on steam and now steam wants to throw piles of them at me jesus fuck off steam

That's because the update changes the names of all the RTP files. You now have to go back and import every one of them manually to get your projects to work again. #FuckSteamRPGMaker

It's like the whole YouTube recommendations thing all over again. No, YT, I don't want to watch full episodes of Family Guy just because I fav'd one clip. Fuck off.
My biggest gripe is when I'm watching something like Radical Man 3: The Shadow of Kublai Khan (Part 10) or whatever and then it's done and the recommended list is garbage. Up next? It isn't RM3:TSoKK (Part 11) but instead it'll be Radical Man 6: Doctor Floorpills (Part 11) by somebody else, and below it'll be a mismash of Radical Man 2: The Sinister Southpaw, or Radical Man 3 Part not-fucking-11. This is assuming that the recommended videos are even relevant to what you just watched too.
I understand it isn't a trivial problem but youtube half the time has it solved and the other half just feeds random shit all over. Even during the same series.

...or just copy them all at once in Windows Explorer and later use a tool like "RMTool" to remove the unused ones...

Since my kids watch all of their ABC, 1-2-3, Shapes, Donald Duck cartoons, Angry Birds live-action plushie movies, and Cartoon Hangover videos on my youtube account, and I watch whatever it is I watch (Beck, glitch-hop music, Cyanide&Happiness shorts, Diablo OST etc...) my recommendation list is completely spastic.

Learn to use playlists, friend. They automatically put the list right there on the side and you can put auto-play on so it jumps straight into the next video. Awesome~
Or go through and add them all to your Watch Later list. You just have to hover over the video thumbnail and a clock in the bottom-right corner appears. Click it, it turns green, it's been added to your list. The Watch Later list acts as a private playlist that you can edit (go to the list and drag/drop to put in order, or click x on the top-right of each video shown to remove). It also plays autoplay if you want, and lets you know which you've watched.
I queue up videos in the list and just let them play while I do something else. It's ridiculously great. If I see a video that might interest me I just click the clock and it's added to the list. Fun times were had by Liberty.
You can also edit your recommendations list on steam, guys. :/
I was thinking what did ketona have to post but now im thinking about showering with dad's and how awkward that is/was
That game is actually pretty good, from what I've seen, though the subject matter could have been made almost anything else and still have worked. But hey, kudos to them for making a fun, silly game about pixel nudity and father/son bonding time.

Racial profiling when a 14 year old high school freshman of Arab descent is arrested for having a clock in class that "looked like a bomb".
I can kind of understand the first half of this woman's opinion, but teenagers in general are easily intimidated and lippy. For the other half, I can't say I agree. I'm no bomb expert, but I kind of have a feeling they don't tick like it's a cartoon or B-grade action movie. Also, having to be "careful to not make people suspicious" just because your name is Ahmed Mohamed sounds pretty closet racist.

Perhaps this boy was suspended for playing cagey with administrators instead of being straight forward with the nature of the device? And, for disrupting an English class with the device when there was no reason for it to be there? While I think the school was a little agressive in the boy's punishment, what would you be saying right now about the teacher who ignored the ticking device plugged into her classroom wall socket that exploded, killing students? Sorry. If I had an Arabic name, I might be careful to not make people suspicious of me to avoid this kind of incident.

Sorry Corfaisus, gotta say you may be wrong :(
In todays world, we can't be too careful until this threat from terrorists is finished.
Maybe I'm just paranoid, but it looks it's going to get worse before it gets better.
There are far to many individual young people who are unhappy enough with their life that they are willing to hurt others so to show us we are the cause of their unhappiness.
Please don't bite my head off cause I disagreed with ya :)

Thanks. I've been fighting with family lately who have been racist fucks, going all "OMG there's muslims in the country omg ship them out omg they're destroying our way of life!"
Oh, yeah mean like we did to the Aboriginals? No? That didn't happen? Grow the fuck up.
"How will you feel when they blow up a place near you?!"
Uh... as though I need to support the people more because they're going to be catching all the flak from what a few extremist assholes decided to do? Because, you know, a race doesn't equate to being horrible and evil just by default, ffs. Weren't you the one who taught me not to judge books by covers and to actually form my own opinions about people before writing them off as x, y or z? Oh, and not to be a racist fuck, too?

That's like blaming girls for 'asking for it' by wearing revealing clothing. People are fucked.
