WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW?

There's not anything inherently wrong with arabs, it's just that their religion is shit, and a large part of muslims actually follow large parts of the book. Now I don't know about you, but I don't want to live in a country where the majority of the people there thinks that throwing stones at women who didn't obey their father/husband is a good thing. Yes, there are good muslims, just like there are good people from every other religion, but those are the ones that don't actually follow what the Quran tells them to do.

And don't come dragging with stuff like "but the bible tells you to do something horrible too"! Sure it does, but even priests choose to ignore those parts, and only a very very small majority take it literally, while stonings and such stuff are public things in countries where the Quran is the law.

You guys want to talk religion, that's fine, but please do so in a civil and respectful fashion.

The bomb thing sounds like an instance of some weird revenge power-fantasy where some idiot at a school either thought they'd be a hero for stopping a "terrorist bomb threat", or they were in a shitty mood and thought they could get away with harassing some teenager because of how he looks. I feel terrible for that kid.
I feel like the actions, reactions and counterreactions are all overblown for this specific situation, and that the resultant mass public shaming will negatively impact all of the lives it touches, far surpassing what this wrongdoing would merit.

I am seeing a LOT of ye people without sin casting that first stone!

Well, it's nice to know there's nothing inherently wrong with us.

And don't come dragging with stuff like "but the bible tells you to do something horrible too"! Sure it does, but even priests choose to ignore those parts, and only a very very small majority take it literally...

As I understand it, that small majority will be voting Trump. That small majority has also successfully forced public schools in numerous states to use textbooks that teach Creationism over evolution. By the way, Kentucky just passed a proposal in the past week that will allow schools to begin teaching evolution in science classes. The obvious question is "Didn't they always?" Well, no, they haven't for the past few years, as it turns out.

And the 14-year-old Arab "bomb" maker? He made a homemade alarm clock and showed it to his science teacher because he wanted to impress him. He advised him not show it to other teachers. He didn't take that advise the very next teacher immediately reported a bomb threat. But don't take my word for it.

By the way, the last anyone's said, he's still facing charges.

No, sorry, there is absolutely NO way to justify treatment of that poor kid.

The guy was showing off his clock to his teachers: Why would anyone show off a bomb? Surely he'd, idk, fucking use it?

As I easily pass as someone of Arab descent, that kid could have been ME 9 years ago.

Um, not all Arabs are Muslims dude. Ever heard of Nazareth or Bethlehem?
Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It's what makes America great.

Also heard he got some invites from people in MIT. Good to know there's still decent people around

No charges will be laid

At a press conference this morning, Irving Police Chief Larry Boyd said charges won't be filed against Ahmed Mohamed, the MacArthur High School freshman arrested Monday after bringing what school officials and police described as a "hoax bomb" on campus.

Thank you GRS for the update. I'm glad they dropped the charges.

That's good to hear.
"I tried making a phone call to my father. They said, ‘You’re in the middle of an interrogation. You can’t have a phone call,'" he said. "I really don’t think it’s fair, because I brought something to school that wasn’t a threat to anyone. I didn’t do anything wrong. I just showed my teachers something and I end up being arrested later that day."

From here

I hope the family sues them and makes them shit bricks. I heard any lawsuit would be federal too, thank fuck. I'd bet a state case would go nowhere in Texas.
Poor kid! I'm glad that a lot of intelligent people are standing behind him, though!

Luckily. The majority is, though (over 90%).

Just remember SnowOwl, there are a few people on this forum who would rather fight over a topic rather then discuss it.
They will point a finger and say "racist" rather then ask if you mean everyone or did you mean just a few might cause trouble.

As I read the story this morning, the firt teacher understood what the 14yr old boy had made but suggested he not show it to anyone else.
In another class a teacher heard it ticking.
With all the trouble schools have had lately, the teacher decided being safe was better then being sorry for the loss of many other students.

The kid made a clock and should be commended for his ability BUT at the same time someone could have sat him down and let him know to think ahead the next time and be a little cautious....and maybe the first teacher should have done the explaining and the cops might not have had to be called :)

Glad he is not facing charges for being a bright student.

Well, 10 percent are Christian, and again, the world isn't divided between Christians and Muslims. That doesn't even count the Jewish tribes that dominate Israel and Jordan. Then there are the Druze tribes dominating Lebanon and Syria, and having a strong presence in Israel and Jordan. That's not to mention the massive amount of Arabs worldwide who have joined the Baha'i faith.

Now, it's true that I'm a mixed breed, but I am still Arab, and I am Thelema, which is a form of Hermeticism (which experiments with sorcery, alchemy, witchcraft, and the like). My mother and grandfather, both Afghan, are both Baptist. I am fairly certain that most Israelis would be surprised to learn that 90 percent of them are Muslim, especially as they've largely wiped out the Muslim population within Israeli borders.

You make a great deal of sweeping generalizations. It is true that much of the hate in Islam is fed by passages in the Qu'ran, and the same is also true of Christianity and the Bible, and of Judaism and the Tal'mud. Have you ever even read the Qu'ran?
