e: I can't speak for Roden, but from what he's said to me it was related to the toxicity and casual bigotry endemic to the community. I'd say that those were his words alone, except that I agree with his assessment.

while you're not wrong about sour grapes, as somebody who worked with luchino i feel pretty confident in what i said above. her motivations were in the wrong places and it wrecked her. her game wasn't terrible, but it's not like it was the next chrono trigger or anything. she took my advice and criticisms well behind the curtain, and it probably could have been a very good game given more time (which is why i helped her with coding and testing), but by acting like a diva about attention within a small community and feeling like she was deserved of ~so much more~ (of what? the 100 or so users who actively post on the actual forums?), it's hard to feel too bad. i wish she could have sorted out her distrust with the perceived community and appreciated the actual community (that wasn't out to get her or withhold attention), but she didn't, so that's that. buh-bye.

there's a lot to unpack here that i'm not gonna because i'm not the right person to do it, but will say that i'm not surprised (unfortunately) and that i mostly agree with you. i'm not sure he always presented himself in an appropriate manner on this site, but i am sad to see him go as somebody who was a very long-term member of this community (re: its entirety) and who clearly had a lot of skill and passion for his work. aelsea is a game that could have helped garner attention for rmn -- 'tis a shame, and thankfully i have other means to contact him to ask him about progress in a while.

edit: mirak why does your avatar specifically always take longer to load than anybody else's? it is because of the randomization? i always open a topic and am like "wait did mirak get rid of his cute pixel avatar :<" because your posts load without it even though everbody else's has loaded and then it appears and i'm pleased again

Well, seeing as this small community is losing some members and with Kentona stepping down, the trade you're getting for all these people going away is that I'm now an active member of the community. And I will be for a long time.

Probably the worst tradeoff in the history of this site.
